I've just seen this on twitter.

Seeing as though mumsnet are their target market, this is very foolish of them.

No, I'm not. Shall we press the reset button and start all over again?

Probably for the best! I'll go and get a cup of coffee....

I think it does underline yet again how bad a decision it is for companies whose market is pretty much exclusively with middle-aged women (of whom I count myself one!) to dabble in the political fad pet causes of young employees and interns.

If your business model relies pretty much exclusively on selling to women aged 35-70, then you need to be looking sharpish at what that market wants out of your products first and foremost (snag tights, modibodi, etc., I’m looking at you too).

Something that I think about here is how easy it was for TRAs to dominate lesbian spaces because ultimately they came to literally outnumber lesbians. Then high on that success they are now trying to dominate women's spaces forgetting that women will always massively outnumber them. While we may not always be out campaigning and kicking up a stink online, we do make day to day decisions that we will often make based on our principles. As we're half the population of the world and the major purchasers of many commercial items, it's not a great idea to piss us off and leave us feeling threatened.

I don't know why you are fixated on the word. It was by one person. Who posted it on twitter, not here.

Many posters are talking about the posts/posters in this thread. There is no glee regarding the job losses in this thread. Go take it up with the people who are posting elsewhere.

all I can go on is the actual screenshot you posted. Which I clearly about the boycott. In fact she says that straight after the word "Good".

But ... nobody on here has made that tweet, ffs! Millions of people say stupid stuff on Twitter everyday! I suppose we're collectively responsible for it all, are we, being everyone's bloody mother?

lifeinthelastlane · 15/11/2022 16:12

You're still wrong @Linksiangreen
Everything said in that tweet refers to the right to boycott a store that took the provocative stance that particular Joules store took. She doesn't mention the administration side of it at all.
Even if she did, that doesn't mean everyone on FWR thinks the same as her. But she didn't even say what you're claiming she said.

There are more than a million job vacancies in the UK. No one needs to be out of work for long.

Yes, which is nothing to do with anyone on this thread. I could screenshot any old tweet and try to use it to prove a point.

Bloody hell
As if it's always that easy! 🙄

It's not always that easy, I remember when it was difficult and I had to struggle through the winter with what I'd saved up during the tourist season.

That was only a few years ago. Now employers (hospitality in particular) are desperate for staff. Turn up with recent retail experience and they'll bite your hand off.

MrsJamin · 16/11/2022 08:26

I doubt their going into administration had anything to do with this issue, but the fact that someone from Joules put the flag up and then also someone else posted on this thread not seeing the issue with it reflects the fact that they clearly were out of touch with their customer base. When will brands who don't sell to millennials get it into their thick skulls that they can't just employ young people into their marketing dept who clearly have no idea who they are selling to? It happens time and time again that these young people are let loose in marketing and branding decisions and tarnish their brands reputation.
