Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I'm not a woman - which facilities should I use

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 11/10/2022 07:52

Genuinely interested to hear what supporters of gender ideology would recommend here. I am biologically female but do not identify as a woman. I am officially trans though in reality I don't think I am the sort of person Stonewall meant to refer to in their definition of trans (I am gender critical - which for those who have been misled by some made-up definitions, to me means that sometimes sex, rather than gender, matters. It is not an anti-trans stance).

The question is - which facilities should I use? I should not be in the ladies if that is defined by identity but using the men's does not feel right either. How do gender ideologists suggest I negotiate this?

If you’re biologically female (which is the only way to be female, and means you are a woman, because human beings can’t change sex) then you use the ladies loos.

It’s really not complicated.

SerotinaPickeler · 11/10/2022 07:56

Sex matters, use the female loos

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/10/2022 07:56

This is a why a third, gender neutral space is needed.

A secondary school near us is putting in thirty individual cubicles - all fully enclosed, lockable, with sinks and sanitary disposal units inside - to be used by all students. This seems a sensible plan to me.

I agree, but not knowing what the OP looks like, I don't know how comfortable I'd be having them in female toilets. If they appear male, how am I going to know they're not?

WahineToa · 11/10/2022 07:59

You’re female so currently you use female bathrooms but I would support a third space personally.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 11/10/2022 08:00

When I'm using a public toilet I don't want to be bumping into anyone with a penis and definitely don't want to use the toilet after someone has peed on the seat and the floor, otherwise I don't care.

HipTightOnions · 11/10/2022 08:01

I get it, Whatiswrongwithmyknee and am in the same position.

I used to use the ladies' when they were single sex, but now they are for woman-gender people, where are we supposed to go?

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/10/2022 08:02

Adult and juvenile human females ( alongside small children of either sex) should use the women's. Its the one set up with hopefully more cubicles , a tampon machine and sanitary bins. So it fits the need if any female regardless if identity.

RFPO77 · 11/10/2022 08:02

Toilets are sex segregated for a reason, if you're biologically female, then for your own safety if nothing else, you should use the female toilets. Although (and I know I'll get shot down for this) but if no-one was about I'd pop in to disabled.

JuneOsborne · 11/10/2022 08:02

Which is why we shouldn't replace women's loos with free for all loos. We need women's loos, men's loos and loos for others that don't want to use/can't use the other two spaces. And those loos should have floor to ceiling walls for cubicles and a hand basin in each cubicle. Protects you from others.

This isn't just about transwomen, is it? And that's what gets my goat about all this. They are the focus of everything to do with this issue and it's just not as simple as that.

midgetastic · 11/10/2022 08:04

You are asking in the wrong place

Most here say female sex uses the ladies no matter how you identify

Genderists may say a number of things - I'll guess a fee

The fact that you are not comfortable in the gents proves you have a gender identity that is women

This is evidence of discrimination against none binary people

Lottapianos · 11/10/2022 08:05

As others said, if you are female, then you use the women's facilities

What do you mean by not identifying as a woman? It's not something you identify into or out of, it's just a biological reality, like having blue eyes or white skin. All of the stereotypes around how women behave are just that, stereotypes

Very few people are not identifiable as their sex , it’s about shape and size ( and I suspect pheromones). Even if the OP has taken hormones or undergone surgery which seems unlikely for the tone of their post, they will not really look like an (alarming ) man.

I would really like a sign on some loos of a cock and balls with a line through it, like a traffic sign. That’s all the clarity I need.

OldTinHat · 11/10/2022 08:09

If you were born with a vagina then you're female and you use the ladies toilets.

Hoppinggreen · 11/10/2022 08:10

Toilets are about biology not identity.
Use the women’s

All people are non binary when it comes to gender - that’s what GC means! Sex IS binary - and it’s impossible to not be either male or female.
The use of single sex spaces is for the most time based on a person’s sex. Nothing to do with how they look, which is all that someone who declares they’re ‘not the gender they were born as’ can actually alter.

FrancescaContini · 11/10/2022 08:11

What’s the issue? You’re a woman.

How old are you? Have you only started wondering about this now? Which toilets have you been using until now? Why do you need other people to help you decide?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 11/10/2022 08:11

I think some people are missing the point slightly

op is a female….well aware of which bogs she should be using

she would like anyone who thinks that transwomen and male non binary people should be in the ladies bogs to tell whydoesmykneehurt where she should go to the toilet

bigblueyonder · 11/10/2022 08:12

But I do find it interesting that as a trans male you do not feel comfortable using the male toilets? Is that for safety reasons or just that sex does matter a lot more than we think (& I do acknowledge that you are GC).

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 11/10/2022 08:12

And midge is just saying what she thinks those people (who believe that males should use the ladies bogs) would say

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 11/10/2022 08:13

Of course if ive completely misunderstood apologies all round 😀

Floor to ceiling toilets are not safer. Where is the place people go when they feel unwell if out and about - public toilets. People can faint/collapse in these spaces and if they are fully enclosed may not be spotted. Plus floor to ceiling means predators can potentially push people into them and again not be spotted. Single sex toilets with individual but not fully enclosed cubicles are safest imo.

Not at all. Im not confortable with the mens because I don't identify as a man. I am non binary also according to stonewall definition. I've borne two children so am legitimately biologically female. However I'd feel mis gendered if anyone assumed that because I go to the ladies I identify as a woman. I am not messing here. I genuinely now feel uncomfortable wherever I go.

If you don't feel safe in the men's, better to use the female facilities than take up the very limited disabled provision.
