Continuation thread from Antipodean fruit grower statement

A statement from the owner reads in part:

Downtime Update as of August 26th, 2022

"What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [REDACTED] can [REDACTED] little boys and girls into [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which allows criticism of their [REDACTED], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead."

I would link to the statement on the Internet Archive aka "Wayback Machine" but it has made all pages archived from the relevant site unsearchable (or deleted?).

Mumsnet does not permit links to the site Archive Today so that is out too.

somebody at a certificate authority (things which are basic parts of the infrastructure of the web) has decided to take action against KiwiFarms.

Anyway to find out who this is?

The Certificate Authority company that has revoked their paid for service is Harica (http://harica.gr/). Apparently situated in Greece. If you've never heard of them nor has almost anybody else as certificates for Tor sites is not a big market, I imagine. But who there made the decision and why I don't think anybody knows.

@Bosky Interesting article, thank you!

Harica

'HARICA, is currently funded by Greek Universities Network (GUnet), a non-profit civil company. Its members are Universities of Greece.'

'HARICA, is currently funded by Academic Network (GUnet), a non-profit civil company. Its members are all the Higher Education and Academic Institutions of Greece. This GUnet service, referred to as the Hellenic Academic and Research Institutions Certification Authority (HARICA), is operated by the IT Center of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki'

LinkedIn says it has one employee, but IDK how accurate that is.

The EFF is not pro-KF but it is against the censorship enabled/attempted by Cloudflare dropping DDoS protection for KF

The Internet Is Not Facebook: Why Infrastructure Providers Should Stay Out of Content Policing

One thing that is worrying and infuriating about all this is that KF has not broken any laws but those attacking it have, openly bragging about it, and they have not met with any consequences for their actions.

That’s a relief to hear, I was dreading that EFF would be in favour of suppressing KF. Thanks very much for that interesting link Bosky

If anyone's thinking of going to the cc or the other farms, they're still getting occasional gore and cp, so maybe use one of those add-ons that blur images

Agreed! Things like this set a president. While many people don’t like KF (understandably) what happened when it’s websites they do like.

First they came for the farmers…

This. ^^

The depressing stupidity of those busy forcing society to let go of all equalities, protections, actual law.

It leaves them with nothing more than hope that they manage to stay popular and that the exact weapons they've created are not turned on them. Today. Since no one stays popular forever. Women can explain: when you're actually an oppressed group instead of LARPing being one, no one will care how much you say it's unfair and wrong, or that you're suffering. You'll just be laughed at.

GingerPCatt · 16/05/2023 07:54

That’s how you know the world doesn’t believe TWAW. If they did, no one would listen to them like they don’t listen to women- ya know the cunty type.

If you’re intentionally going to places on the Internet that host child pornography then you need to step away from the computer.

Exactly.

can you imagine women having the clout to shut down websites, wholesale, just because they don't like the content?

Pornhub wouldn't exist.

Or that horrible website where men rate prostitutes.

GingerPCatt · 16/05/2023 11:13

Or that horrible website where men rate prostitutes.

Indeed. I mean, the list would be bloody endless, wouldn't it?

One, single, solitary site, that reproduces what these men have actually said and they go off on a testerical crusade.

mind you, I don't blame them, when left unfiltered, these men spout all manner of nasty stuff.

The only reason they don't do it here is because the rules make them.

They don't intentionally host it, you muppet, they get spammed with it by the cowardly twats who want to see the site taken down altogether.

Oh, I wondered what that nonsense was

It's like when men spammed J. K. Rowling's Twitter with porn and then accused her of having dick pics.

I mean, for the love of god, is there anything these men are capable of that isn't less sophisticated than ear wax?

nilsmousehammer · 16/05/2023 12:40

It's all very year 4 isn't it?

All very 'stop hitting yourself!'

nilsmousehammer · 16/05/2023 12:43

Besides which I thought the WHO and the rest of the queer theorist lobby had declared that safeguarding children was all terribly five minutes ago and anyone not embracing exceptional amounts of dodgy behaviour with children was a bigot/saggy titted hag/would be dead soon and other yr 4 type epithets?

To stuff it up to try, in a very limited way, to prevent decent people going there says really more about those doing the stuffing than anyone else. And how little they actually believe all the 'it's totally normal' waffling.

I have no idea what "the cc or the other farms" refers to and I have never seen any "gore" or "cp" on KF.

Although, to be fair, the areas that discuss the devastating results of "gender affirming surgery", often with well-informed and qualified medical opinion from members, can be upsetting but it would be counterproductive to blur those images. Particularly gruesome images and videos in that area are typically hidden behind a warning and it is the user's choice whether or not to view them.

From the press received I imagine that most people think that KF is about the size of FWR. It is not, it is a huge forum and covers a wide variety of disparate interests.

There are people who have tried and threatened to take down the whole of Mumsnet just because they don't like what is posted on FWR.

KF is in a similar situation. A massive amount of time and energy has gone into undermining the conventions and rules underpinning the whole internet due to a very small number of KF threads containing information about a very small number of individuals.

The two areas where KF has the strongest "activist" agenda are against child abuse (of all sorts) and animal cruelty, exposing and reporting individuals to the authorities after meticulously documenting the evidence.

However, those who are aggrieved about this sort of activity do not seem to have the same clout as others when it comes to manipulating and bullying the individuals and companies who enable self-hosted forums, or anyone else, to exist on the internet.

Tell me you've never seen KF, without telling me you've never seen KF.

Earlier someone replied to Richard Coles' tweet that he was enjoying the 'witchtrials of JKR' podcast with 'It's just about a billionaire who lives in a castle. Crying that people keep telling her it's wrong to want genocide.' You're at that level of discourse, are you proud?

Do you include all social media and forum websites that have been used by abusers and predators to image-share or is your advice only for viewers of the website you’ve taken a very strong dislike to (the one that exists to document abusers and predators)?

Every now and then it catches me off-guard just how insane this is. Money spent on illegal DoS attacks, laws broken, people calling up the wives of data centre employees at 3am to demand the service be dropped, large companies like Cloudflare damaging their reputation by dropping paid services over faked up threats, thousands of articles written all unquestioningly repeating the same source and each other in some giant circle of citation, and all over this website that is basically for laughing at people who voluntarily publish the details of themselves online. And that's all it is. But it's theirs and they wont give it up.

The 'farms reminds me of this Trevor Moore classic (language warning if anybody cares these days):
