Continuation thread from Antipodean fruit grower statement

A statement from the owner reads in part:

Downtime Update as of August 26th, 2022

"What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [REDACTED] can [REDACTED] little boys and girls into [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which allows criticism of their [REDACTED], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead."

I would link to the statement on the Internet Archive aka "Wayback Machine" but it has made all pages archived from the relevant site unsearchable (or deleted?).

Mumsnet does not permit links to the site Archive Today so that is out too.

I'm fucking disgusted by the Lambrini comment.

Whenever I remember Donald Trump campaigning against immigration by unknowingly reading the lyrics from an old Lambrini ad I have a little chuckle…

‘Do the Lambrini’ ad from 2007:

Trump in 2016:

Al Wilson original:

And just because I’m a northern lass who is known to get the suede soles and talcum powder out from time to time:

It went a bit Mrs Robinson.

If Josh were ever to make it to Bongland he might disappointed/relieved to discover much of the interest/concern centres around whether he is looking after himself, eating properly and getting enough sleep.

I don't understand any of the techie stuff, but there seems to be an extra-ordinary battle going on in the innards of the internet. Forces of good and evil, perhaps. Josh might be a flawed hero but we have picked our side. DDOS attacks, doxing, all sort of weird players: Russians, QAnon, our very own Caroline Farrow and plenty of virtual dragons to slay.

Some hint of the complexity here:

Perhaps Netflix should buy the rights. On condition MNetters are portrayed drinking decent gin or prosecco and given our rightful acronyms.

I got Frank and Al mixed up. Smile

Fallen down a rabbithole, someone send one of the dogs with brandy. DECENT fucking brandy, please.

This thread, or rather what Josh is doing, is very important. (Even if the site is not easy browsing.) He joins quite a corps of unlikely heroes who have gone above and beyond: JKR, Glinner, Maya etc.

I really don't understand why some people think kiwifarms was some heroic bastion of free speech. It was a site set up to mock and online stalk mostly disabled people who are not in the public eye. It's quite clear many of the lolcows or whatever they call them are in the middle of some kind of mental health crisis. Mocking the afflicted use to be seen as a bad thing, not some honourable tradition of free speech. The amount of racial, ableist, homophobic and misogynistic abuse aimed at people who in a lot of cases were just a bit eccentric, or possibly unwell, is horrible and it's not true that the system of receipts means everything is verified. There's huge amount of speculation on there that would never make it past a libel lawyer but since the targets are invariably too poor or too vulnerable and it's very difficult to sue an anonymous forum poster if the site they post on is uncooperative then it means people can be libelled and have their privacy breached at will. It's really nasty, bullying the local oddball isn't free speech, we teach our kids not to behave like this, but some people are acting like it's some kind of heroism. I don't get it at all.

Nope. It's subject to American free-speech laws. Josh could easily be compelled to hand over information if they were breaching the law. They're not, so they don't.

And taking the piss isn't illegal.

Any ideology that can’t tolerate a bit of piss taking is well sus, imo.

yeah, most of it's horrible

that's why i don't spend my evenings there

but some of it

some of it is the only place you're allowed to talk about Jonathan Yaniv

or a certain litigious lady lawyer and their shady past

this is uniquely valuable

livvyposts · 07/11/2022 14:15

And taking the piss isn't illegal.

Lot's of things aren't illegal, although kiwifarms posters posting from outside the US are still bound by the laws of their own country. So if you're in the UK and post a load of racist abuse to kiwifarms you could still face prosecution.

Are you really saying racist and ableist abuse and online stalking of vulnerable people is somehow heroic because it doesn't break US laws? What about the simple cruelty. Imagine being a vulnerable person going through a mental health crisis, bereavement, cancer diagnosis and all the other shit people routinely have to deal with and having your every online move being dissected and speculated over whilst a bunch of immature mostly men racially or misogynistically abuse you. It's vile, whether it's illegal or not, and I'm glad that there are so few companies willing to do business with them.

I agree with some of this. KiwiFarms can be mean. I would like the world to be less mean than that.

The major problem is that when the Be Kind imperative is preventing people from publicly calling out sexual predators, or even saying what sex they are, then people who care about the victims of sexual predators are going to realise that the Mean People are better human beings than the “Kind” People . (I first became aware of KiwiFarms due to the information blackout surrounding Jonathan Yaniv.)

The other more subtle problem is that living in an online bubble shielded from truth and honesty appears to be making many of the mental health conditions you’re referring to worse.

If the mainstream discourse was less toxic and dishonest, less enabling towards predators and sociopaths and professional victims, and less disabling towards mentally unwell people who are in dire need of a reality check, there would be far fewer people posting on KiwiFarms.

You a psychologist or a doctor or something? Or are you making armchair diagnostics for a whole slew of very different people and saying that effectively they are too ‘ill’ to be on social media?

I totally agree that many of the lolcows, etc have views I def don’t defend and some / lots should probably have their hard drives checked, but to blame that on poor mental health and make the link you appear to make (poor mental health = disabled, afflicted, eccentric, unwell, poor, vulnerable, oddball, etc) is shit poor OP, and I really hope there is no one in your RL that suffers from any kind of mental health.

Quite!

On another thread Livvy is criticising Helen Joyce for ‘ablest language’ due to using the phrase ‘sane world’!

and just a few hours later Livvy is here force teaming innocent mentally unwell people with paedophiles and abusers!

ItsLateHumpty · 07/11/2022 14:33

Oh and PS, whatever you think they say about people, the language they use, etc. at least it’s pretty much noting and archiving what their targets have said. Shit posting in other words.
Your mates are dropping fliers with a woman’s address and inciting what to me looks like ‘retribution’

I'm fucking disgusted by the Lambrini comment.

To be fair it is seriously offensive. I didn’t think that even Kiwi Farms would sink that low.

Never in my life have I ever allowed lambrini to pass my lips. I am absolutely appalled at the suggestion.

It is plain to see that the farmers have not visited the Bluestocking.

Happylittlechicken · 07/11/2022 15:18

Isn’t KF just commenting on what people have freely put on the internet? Ok they’re mean and use not nice language, but if people didn’t put it on the internet, they couldn’t comment could they?

PomegranateOfPersephone · 07/11/2022 15:23

Well then where are their receipts? Where ever is Lambrini mentioned as the tipple of choice for those of us who frequent the FWR boards? If I had an account on Kiwi Farms I would be asking questions but alas this dreadful slur will remain unchallenged. Never mind, I think we’ll cope. I shall just pour myself another glass of damson wine and enjoy my dark chocolate truffles to soothe my troubled soul.

Yes! We should report them to their service providers, this is surely the pinnacle of Hate Speech!

Even Bernard Black wouldn’t sink as low as to make an ice lolly from Lambrini. Bleaugh.

Apparently Virgin and livvy have teamed up together to help hide the nasties from poor fragile me. Well livvy, surprisingly enough I am mature and adult enough to understand the true meaning behind the term free speech and its real life implications of not having it. I am horrified that you don't.

Thanks to another poster I am finally able to access it. When I eventually dump the H, I will be dumping the ISP. Thats a promise.

Absolute drivel.

Allegedly the individual trying their utmost to bring KF down has a rather, allegedly, chequered past in regards to 'consent accidents' something KF documents - not a coincidence that they are so intent on trying to bring about the site's demise . Not the most pleasant of people from what I have read.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a KF thread where someone who is rarely on social media or who has mostly private accounts has been featured. It’s mostly commentary on things people have said on public accounts and people who really put themselves out there.

AlisonDonut · 07/11/2022 18:06

You realise that knowing the lingo outs you as a kiwi farm reader?
