Sexnotgender · 20/07/2022 18:27

Fantastic news.

Conflictedunicorn · 20/07/2022 18:30

KM and the usual suspects are raging!!! It’s quite yummy seeing the Twitter meltdowns. Apparently the trans genocide will start at any minute.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 18:40

Brilliant. Wonder what they are going to look into?

BellaAmorosa · 20/07/2022 18:47

A brave, principled woman with a big brain and heart. And elected, not appointed, which is even better. Congratulations, Joanna Cherry.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 18:54

Quote from one delicate flower on Twitter
"This is so utterly terrifying for trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming people. Not just the appointment - but the conditions surrounding it. They must know her views. I can't see it as anything other than a deliberate action; a provocation to the entire trans community."

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 20/07/2022 19:07

Congratulations Joanna Cherry!

Fantastic news. Congrats, Joanna Cherry.

Courageous, intelligent, informed and compassionate. She'll do a great job.

Artichokeleaves · 20/07/2022 19:15

Good for her! Following in the Baroness's footsteps.... she's going to be a bloody good pair of hands in the Lords in time to come.

What gets me is, what is so 'utterly terrifying' about people not agreeing with your self image? There are many people who hold contrasting religious beliefs, that are truly held beliefs, and they manage to navigate the world without being utterly terrified of those who don't agree.
It's all a smokescreen for oh shit, we won't get our ego validated anymore.

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 19:21

Wow, the response to that tweet is baffling.

Still in the words of the departing PM: 'remember above all it's not Twitter that counts,'

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 19:22

So pleased for her. She obviously has a lot of respect from other MPs. Any they will know about this "terrifying" nonsense .

Artichokeleaves · 20/07/2022 19:25

If women not being subordinated in access and equality is 'terrifying' then it's time for a fairly major re think. Because that's not even basically rational.

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 19:30

On Twitter: 'Sorry LGBTQ+ people. Hope you've enjoyed your life.'

What age are these people? And what do they actually think Cherry is going to do?

At a certain point, hyperbole just reveals itself as a tactic, and sympathy is lost from that point on.

Slothtoes · 20/07/2022 19:33

Bloody brilliant news! I really rate her intelligence and political judgement. Just what such an important committee as this needs. Congratulations Joanna Cherry!

GoodJanetBadJanet · 20/07/2022 19:52

I've just had a look at Twitter after seeing this thread.
All I can see is people worried where they will stand because of her views on trans issues.
No "raging" like pp said upthread, or tantrums which people on here are always trying to make out is happening (why? Why desperate to always paint opposing viewpoints as aggressive?)
Just worried people.
I just see it as shit to dismiss their concerns as *being a delicate flower."

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 20/07/2022 20:01

That’s alright, you do you

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/07/2022 20:36

Just worried people

What exactly are they worried about?
They already have the same rights as everyone else. They just don't like that these rights are sex based. They see any female legal protections as bigoted and phobic ffs.

What are 'gender none conforming' people so afraid of? Most people are non conforming. No one gives a shit how they dress or what they call themselves, we just won't pretend it alters their sex or entitles them to things that are solely for the opposite sex.

JC is also a lesbian so why would she be a threat to the LGB community?
But then TRA's only like lesbians who agree with their religion.

Artichokeleaves · 20/07/2022 20:59

Again evidence that LGBT+ no longer means all people who have the characteristics of homosexual and/or trans with that being the one characteristic that unites them, but has now been steered to mean just a group of people who have a political belief in common. With homosexual and trans people who are not Of The Faith excluded. Important to keep noting this and pointing it out, as it's still proving quite useful to this political movement to suggest that they are representing all gay and lesbian and trans people when wishing to exert power. Hence the absolute hatred and determination to eradicate the LGBA from saying inconvenient things such as 'some of us think other things and want other kinds of representation'.

There is now no collective name other than homosexual people and homosexual females. And to name yourself as such is regarded as a statement of heresy for which the Inquisition shall be launched upon you with doxxing and shaming and exclusion in tow.

Joanna is wise to all this. Thank God.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 20/07/2022 20:59

You know full well what you've done there.
The LGBT community. Not LGB.
You're a regular on here, you know that it's worries regarding trans people, so why pretend otherwise by "innocently" lopping the T off?

No, they define "homosexual" as same gender attraction. Even the BBC defines it as that. Same sex attraction isn't a thing anymore, apparently.
