What a wonderful accolade!

I'm so pleased for her. I know she'll do a phenomenal job - compassionate, kind and wise

You only see what you want to see there were plenty of comments on the linked Twitter thread that were indeed raging not worried
Ok, fair enough, point taken, but that goes both ways as others only see what they want to, rage, and refuse to entertain the idea that a lot of people who are LGBT are scared for their rights right now.

Very telling. No one is changing the laws about anyone's rights. They're just making sure that all rights are upheld.

Revealing that so many TRAs view that as having something taken away.

NewPotatoSalad · 21/07/2022 01:07

It is interesting that TQ+ campaigners see a threat in the idea of women's equality, they find women's rights to be threatening to TQ+ political ambitions.

I think we all know that all this boils down men's rights zealots.

Cailleach1 · 21/07/2022 01:18

For some reason, the Eddie Grant song came to mind - 'you give me hope, Jo'anna.'

I would genuinely like to know, GoodJanet, what it is that you think unites LGB and T people? What do the first three groups have in common with the latter group?

Absolutely nothing in common. T might just as easily have coopted themselves onto veganism, atheism or street sleepers for all the sense it makes. And loads of lgb people have rightly had enough of being dragged into this shit show.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/07/2022 02:18

so why pretend otherwise by "innocently" lopping the T off?

Nothing 'innocent' about it. My dropping the T in that context was very deliberate.

You also conveniently ignored the questions I asked in the post. So again,
what rights are they worried for?

What we want to happen is that the EXISTING rights and protections in place that legally allow for female only spaces, services and sports etc be upheld. These are based on sex, not 'gender identity'.

This isn't 'taking away' anyone's rights is it? Because claiming a right will be taken away implies they had that right in the first place.

Meanwhile, the trans lobby are the ones trying to have these legal protections for all females removed which will actually be taking away women's rights.....

yes. This.

Another appeal for understanding whilst ignoring the double standards in their own history.

If the regular’s on this board try the ‘only worried and concerned’ approach, the shaming starts. The hypocrisy never seems to be acknowledged.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 20/07/2022 20:59

JC is also a lesbian so why would she be a threat to the LGB community?
You know full well what you've done there.
The LGBT community. Not LGB.
You're a regular on here, you know that it's worries regarding trans people, so why pretend otherwise by "innocently" lopping the T off?

Because the LGB community is nothing to do with the TQ+ brigade.

One is about sexual preferences, the other is redefined every 15 seconds when somebody thinks of a new set of pronouns or finds a new crayon to colour a new flag in with.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 21/07/2022 05:14

Yes, I know, that's why I used " marks around the word.

Shaming? Nobody's trying to shame you 😕

Helleofabore · 21/07/2022 05:50

You are kidding, right?

No shaming posts aimed at posters who are concerned about the conflict of another groups right on those to protect females get posted on FWR?

Conflictedunicorn · 21/07/2022 06:19

@GoodJanetBadJanet why do all these people think upholding women’s rights to free spaces is so worrying? Is it because they’ve got used to bullying their way in and like toddlers, they get very upset at adults who say no? I suppose the difference between toddlers and the TRA is at least toddlers grow up eventually.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/07/2022 08:03

Yes, I know, that's why I used " marks around the word

Still dodging the questions we keep asking though.

What rights exactly are they worried about?
What rights do they have that that they think will be taken away?

Female protections are in place for their safety, privacy and dignity. Why is this suddenly bigoted because some male people want access?

dafunk · 21/07/2022 08:09

Just worried people.

Bloody right they should be worried, we're slowly moving remarkable women into positions of power and their day in the sun will soon be over.

RedToothBrush · 21/07/2022 08:09

This is really interesting. In order to be elected, you have to get the highest number of votes from other members of the committee (all MPs). The SNP cannot get these type of roles without cross party support.

So the question is, where did support for Cherry to get this role come from? How many votes did she get. The members of the committee should be well aware of her history and legal expertise... She's clearly respected within Parliament to get this role despite the hot air on twitter.

FrancescaContini · 21/07/2022 08:12

I ❤️ Joanna. She and Joanne are my favourite Scottish people. She has so much integrity. It’s fantastic news!

The "T" is an artificial addition to piggyback exploit the gay rights movement. LGB are same sex attracted. Nothing to do with "identification". Hence the need for LGB Alliance to give lesbian, gay and bisexual people a voice.

But the light is shining on it now. Great to see Joanna's integrity and bravery recognised in this appointment.

Waitwhat23 · 21/07/2022 08:15

Those 'worried people' are also very typically using slurs and aggressive language to discuss their 'fears' (I.e. toddlerish dismay that they're not going to get everything their own way). I think 'transphobic cunt' was one of the nicer re-tweets I saw.

There's a lot of talk about genocide and national disgrace. Lots of comparisons to Pol Pot and Hitler.

'Just worried people'? Hyperbolic toddlers more like.

Cazziebo · 21/07/2022 08:15

@RedToothBrush Very few in the SNP support Joanna - at least openly. She'll have got this post without SNP support.

It's brilliant!

FrancescaContini · 21/07/2022 08:20

bellinisurge · 20/07/2022 18:54

Quote from one delicate flower on Twitter
"This is so utterly terrifying for trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming people. Not just the appointment - but the conditions surrounding it. They must know her views. I can't see it as anything other than a deliberate action; a provocation to the entire trans community."

Code for: we can't get away with bullshit anymore

😂 spot on.

How does this delicate flower cope with the terror of daily life? Using a bus? Going in to a shop? Working?

What language is left to describe genuine atrocities when they’ve used up all the hyperbole to express what most people would see as normal, everyday “discomfort” such as someone having a different opinion?

How did we come to have a generation of such precious namby pambies?

FrancescaContini · 21/07/2022 08:22

And making comparisons with terrifying historical figures who committed genocide is disgraceful.

littlbrowndog · 21/07/2022 08:25

Great background, thank you

politicians are, well, political

I think this signals a move from being ‘out’ as GC from an impediment to neutral, or even an advantage….

KohlaParasaurus · 21/07/2022 10:00

Delighted to see a sensible and rational woman elected to this role.
