If you have a Conservative MP and want to protect the rights of women and safeguard children please email them TONIGHT and ask them to support Kemi.

Penny Mordaunt still the bookies favourite (and they aren't often wrong) but we need to let everyone know how dangerous it will be for this woman to become PM; I don't believe she has changed her mind for one moment.

Bingo. That took longer than I thought it would @beastlyslumber. I’ve been waiting for that since last week.

Sorry? not sure what you're getting at.

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 10:51

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2022 10:32

It’s a good point but you’ll be mocked in various ways as it’s not what people will address

There's been a lot of leftists talking about how they're "not ready" for a black female PM and how it's going to "harm diversity" so I guess I take the vitriol about Kemi being "fanatical" and "self righteous" as part of that whole approach.

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 10:52

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 10:26

Wow. I wonder how much prejudices about her race are playing into these kinds of assumptions about Kemi? Haven't heard that kind of language being used about Truss, or even Mordaunt - who certainly qualifies more as an ideologue!

Kind of defeats your argument @beastlyslumber.

Kind of defeats your argument @beastlyslumber.

What on earth do you think my argument is that anything to do with 'Britain First' can defeat it? Please answer - I really want to know what it is you think is being said here.

Notmanybroadbeans · 19/07/2022 10:55

That looks fake as f---. Where did the screenshot come from?

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 10:56

It does look rather like leftist propaganda...

LK1972 · 19/07/2022 10:57

@Blossomtoes yeah, I saw that, and am puzzled. Do we hate Britain First because they're racists? I though that was the case.

But if they're racist why are they instructing their members to vote for a black woman, when there are two white women running?

Isn't this a good thing, and maybe Britain First are showing themselves to be less racist than previously thought?

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:01

I think Blossomtoes is trying to accuse Kemi of being some kind of mouthpiece for racists - a useful idiot, perhaps, or just "not black" a la Biden quote.

Maybe that's not what Blossomtoes means? But pretty sure that's what this piece of propaganda is meant to convey. So really it supports the idea that leftists' objections to Kemi are mostly that she has the gall to be a black woman with her own ideas about things that don't align with the left. This makes her a "fanatical ideologue" and/or a mouthpiece for fascists, apparently.

She denies racism exists.

Simon Woolley, the crossbench peer who founded Operation Black Vote, said Badenoch has a particularly strong view on such issues

“Of course we have always wanted a black prime minister – symbolism is important – but the rhetoric from candidates such as Kemi Badenoch around the Sewell report and potentially firing academics articulating racial inequalities that have been couched as ‘theoretical’ is bitterly disappointing,” he said

“The reality has been laid bare by Covid-19 that systemic racial inequality still sadly prevails. No prime minister, black or white, can effectively tackle systemic and persistent race inequality if its very existence is fundamentally denied.”

You seriously expect me to believe the most racist people in our society have suddenly had a Damescene conversion? Really?

Yes you’re right don’t feel you’re imagining it.

Many on the left haven’t responded well to the diversity, maybe it’s to do with power structures - it’s ok if they’re perceived to be helping people in a lesser position but leadership isn’t so good after all.

It’s interesting but diversity is not always welcomed, it’s more within the ‘caring left’ which is a strange outcome

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:06

Kemi doesn't deny racism exists. She denies that "systemic racism" exists. The Sewell report showed clearly that we have very little racism on a systemic level. The fact that leftists have tried to deny and cancel that report do not make its findings any less rigorous or legitimate.

Also: Kemi Badenoch is a black woman who is in the running to be the next prime minister. I'm sure she has good reason for feeling that the system isn't against her. Why do people think their beliefs about her experience should trump her actual experience?

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 11:08

Simon Woolley, that well known racist, disagrees with you - and her @beastlyslumber.

achillestoes · 19/07/2022 11:11

She’s not obligated to believe in things because you do @Blossomtoes She’s not obligated to believe in things because of her race. That’s racist.

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:11

Yes, I find it strange too! I was brought up believing tories were the racists and sexists, but they've given us two female PMs and the most racially diverse government we've ever seen. The left, on the other hand, who I used to think were against racism, seem to have a real serious problem with black and Asian people being in power.

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:14

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 11:08

I've never heard of Simon Woolley. If a racist disagrees with Kemi, so what? I don't get what you're trying to say.

Maybe you could respond to some of the actual points being made, because this throwing around of guilt by association doesn't get us anywhere.

Notmanybroadbeans · 19/07/2022 11:17

Is it not possible that two black people (from completely different backgrounds, no less) might disagree with each other about racial issues? Doesn't Kemi have as much right to her opinion?

Tony Sewell, who led the Sewell Report, is of course also a black man.

I really dislike this kneejerk policing of opinion according to demographic. Why not listen first, and then if you think it's bollocks then say so, instead of attempting a character assassination.

There you go, always happy to help. You were the one to introduce racism @beastlyslumber. I personally don’t think it’s relevant here but I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone said what you did.

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2022 11:26

Beastly you’re right to bring it up

It won’t be acknowledged, don’t worry though it’s not your imagination.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 19/07/2022 11:27

The confusion among left wingers when they meet a right wing black person is always fun

it’s almost like people are people regardless of the colour of their skin

it’s why the progress plus flag with its brown and black stripes is so fucking batshit

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:27

So you were being sarcastic. So let me reframe my question then. Why should Simon Woolley disagreeing with Kemi Badenoch be some kind of gotcha? Is she supposed to agree with all other black people? Or supposed to agree with the black people you agree with? Can you see why it's racist to expect black people to all be of the same opinion?

My original question was framed as "I wonder how much prejudices about Kemi's race are playing into this." I think that in your case, based on what you've commented, the answer is "quite a lot!"

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 11:30

OK @beastlyslumber. If you think it’s OK for a candidate for PM, regardless of their race or colour, to be endorsed by Britain First I’d respectfully suggest that it’s not me who has a racism problem.

Agreed. It won't be acknowledged by the left.

I don't think it is Kemi's responsibility if Britain First endorse her. It's got nothing to do with her. Why do you think it's black people's responsibility to answer to racists?

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 11:33

@Blossomtoes in case you missed my questions: Why should Simon Woolley disagreeing with Kemi Badenoch be some kind of gotcha? Is she supposed to agree with all other black people? We’ve now reached staggering heights of craziness.
