If you have a Conservative MP and want to protect the rights of women and safeguard children please email them TONIGHT and ask them to support Kemi.

Penny Mordaunt still the bookies favourite (and they aren't often wrong) but we need to let everyone know how dangerous it will be for this woman to become PM; I don't believe she has changed her mind for one moment.

No one is stopping anyone from believing women should be barefoot and pregnant. I suspect I've had colleagues whose views were not too far from that.

antifascist · 18/07/2022 23:49

What about my protected belief that all women should be barefoot and pregnant?

it was against the law once- but that's all old hat now

You can believe it all you like. Shout it from the rooftops. Actually, go to speakers corner and air your views there. No one is stopping you. Knock yourself out. The fab thing is, no one has to listen to you.

Norma27 · 19/07/2022 06:32

@antifascist if you had that belief- would it include anyone identifying as a women? Would those with a penis also be required to be pregnant and barefoot?

achillestoes · 19/07/2022 06:40

‘What about my protected belief that all women should be barefoot and pregnant?’

I’m not sure it would meet the Grainger criteria, but you can say it.

achillestoes · 19/07/2022 06:41

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

Yes, he is.

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 07:30

I hope Kemi gets through but I like Liz Truss too, so wouldn't be too disappointed if she got Kemi's votes. Any but Penny!!

achillestoes · 19/07/2022 08:32

Looking likely it will be Sunak v Truss.

Dh cannot fathom (and neither can I) why there aren't major policies for insulating everyone's homes.

Not only would that reduce heating costs and needs but also create cooler homes in heat waves. Reducing need for fans etc.

The tories seemed to have stopped all of that when they came into power and if Kemi is a bright spark she's missed that nugget.

(He's in that industry and eco housing)

Because those schemes involved helping those who could not afford to, to make their homes more efficient saving them money.
Those who pay for the Tory party do not approve of the poor having to pay less for their overpriced services.

I thought sunak was a twat with that ‘which one are you most embarrassed about…’ question

everyone else was asking proper questions (albeit having a dig at the same time) and he was just being ‘clever’

dh just said hes not doing the next one because ‘they were attacking each other’ if thats true hes a fucking hypocrite as well

(ive not seen all of the tv shows, i think he is lying through his back teeth about not knowing that Johnson was lying)

Given we all knew that Johnson was lying, either Sunak is not very bright or...

I absolutely agree. If everyone cant’t afford the heating then just handing out money for the bills only helps short-term. Rishi should not only be giving the £1200 to the poorest 1/3 plus setting the whole countries houses up for the future.

And all the new houses could be built with solar panels, heat pumps(?), the right glazing, and insulation.

And also be built with an extra downstairs room, bathroom, and correct width doorways and halls so an elderly person could be looked after by their own families if possible.

Good point.

Truss would be the best outcome from a FWR perspective.

Of course it would be disastrous if she tore up the Northern Ireland Protocol and caused a hard No Deal Brexit as she has threatened. But I'm coming to the view she probably won't jump off that cliff. For the same reason she won't swallow TWAW - self preservation and common sense.

The US Democrats used to say ' better a clod than a murderer'. Perhaps better a hypocrite like Truss - who voted Remain ffs - than a fanatical ideologue like Badenoch. Infused as she is with the self righteousness of youth.

jgw1 · 19/07/2022 09:53

The house builders pay the government not have these sorts of polices.
Plus that might mean more regulation and we left the EU in order to have more regulation.

Your last line is interesting. Badenoch is 42 and Truss is 46, not much in it in terms of youth

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 10:09

Kemi's not a "fantatical ideologue" "infused with the self-righteousness of youth"!! Bloody hell.

She’s not young, granted. The rest of it’s pretty much spot on.

I agree it’s a bit off

It’s probably thought she looks younger but there’s assumption going along with it.

beastlyslumber · 19/07/2022 10:26

Wow. I wonder how much prejudices about her race are playing into these kinds of assumptions about Kemi? Haven't heard that kind of language being used about Truss, or even Mordaunt - who certainly qualifies more as an ideologue!

Blossomtoes · 19/07/2022 10:30

Bingo. That took longer than I thought it would @beastlyslumber. I’ve been waiting for that since last week.

It’s a good point but you’ll be mocked in various ways as it’s not what people will address

trentpercent · 19/07/2022 10:44

It would be disastrous if she tore up the Northern Ireland Protocol and caused a hard No Deal Brexit as she has threatened.

That's a price I'm willing to pay for the safety of women and girls.
