If you have a Conservative MP and want to protect the rights of women and safeguard children please email them TONIGHT and ask them to support Kemi.

Penny Mordaunt still the bookies favourite (and they aren't often wrong) but we need to let everyone know how dangerous it will be for this woman to become PM; I don't believe she has changed her mind for one moment.

I really like Kemi's style and think her inclusion in this round can only be a good thing. It's going to force the other candidates to clarify their positions. Mordaunt would be a total disaster and I'm scared that her as PM will see us losing all the progress made with women's rights.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:08

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

I think you’re probably right but she should continue in the contest. It’s right that her views are aired. Truss seems to have agreed today that the Online Safety Bill would be scrapped under a Truss government, which might not have been conceded unless Badenoch was in the race.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 15/07/2022 09:12

The issue I have is I don’t think Truss is very good with speaking

no i agree

and i keep remembering the meeting she had with the russian chap (i think) when she wouldn’t wait for the translator to translate what he was saying…she was was just talking

i mean that was pretty stupid

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 15/07/2022 09:14

Absolutely achilles

depending on the reactions to the other candidates hopefully whoever ‘wins’ will see how the land lies and possibly tailor some of their policies accordingly

MarshaBradyo · 15/07/2022 09:19

Looking at backgrounds Badenoch is impressive - studied law but don’t think she went into it. Still that’s helpful in being clear with words

Sunak - finance ok helpful

Mordaunt - philosophy which is probably part of reason for her views

Truss - not sure just says college

You’d need someone who can immediately face PMQs which are very tough

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:21

‘You’d need someone who can immediately face PMQs which are very tough.’

Not really. Hardly anyone watches them. And Starmer is Captain Crasherooni Snoozefest. :)

MarshaBradyo · 15/07/2022 09:22

Haha 😂

Makes one wonder why Boris manages to make a mess of it each week really.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:26

@jgw1

Johnson’s failures are nothing to do with PMQs. He usually did well.

MarshaBradyo · 15/07/2022 09:29

I do listen sometimes, Times radio does a good bit on it, can be quite funny but also good insights

the last one was bad for Johnson hence going shortly after but the lame jokes from Starmer one made me cringe on his behalf

it does tend to appear in press after so they have to get the lines in

He did if you think bluster, name calling and refusing to answer a question is doing well. It’s not my definition.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:36

@Blossomtoes

That depends on the purpose you think PMQ serves. Starmer looked uninspiring far too often, like a warm egg mayonnaise butty in very hot weather.

In your opinion. He looked like a calm, intelligent human being with integrity to me.

And yet somehow, Starmer has managed to turn around a party that suffered a massive defeat at the General election less than 3 years ago into a party that will more likely than not be the largest at the next General Election.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:45

Well, we’re all entitled to our opinions. I think he looks like a pineapple upside down cake that’s failed to rise.

MarshaBradyo · 15/07/2022 09:47

That’s a lot of belief in Starmer there.

Cummings and partygate helped him a great deal

We’ll see what happens but he’s more fortunate than particularly strong - even his own party said put some oomph into it - then a couple of weeks of those jokes

Having said that whoever faces him will need to land lines in media which actually Johnson did do - if you track where things come from and resurface in focus groups

Blossomtoes · 15/07/2022 09:51

Perhaps he does. I’m not interested in politicians’ appearance,I judge them on intellect and integrity. Perhaps if the Tory party made the same judgement we wouldn’t be in the current shitstorm.

These threads have been very illuminating to me, I had no idea feminism had moved so far to the right.

It is perhaps more the case that the far right having left the EU needed to find someone else to hate once it was hard to maintain the hatred of the EU.

Floisme · 15/07/2022 09:54

There also remains the small matter of the government still having a majority of close to 80 seats. Overturning that in a single parliament is a massive task. Starmer will have to work for every vote he can get and he won't get mine unless he promises not to mess with my rights.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:54

And as for Starmer’s famous ‘integrity’, ask yourself what happened to his pledges on nationalisation, on trades unions, private healthcare in the NHS... He says what suits him at the time, like most politicians.

achillestoes · 15/07/2022 09:55

@Blossomtoes

Now you know how I felt as a feminist when I found out my feminism suddenly had to centre ‘all marginalised people’ (ie men) rather than women.

I had no idea the left were akin to flat earthers where TWAW but women are not

but there you go on the sex and gender board they post it endlessly

Imnobody4 · 15/07/2022 09:57

Kemi's style is incredible she's really outstanding, clear, concise, precise. I think she also listens and doesn't just pronounce the truth.

Most of the feminists posters seem to be left wing to me...they certainly haven't moved further to the right

Unless you are doing that 'someone criticised a labour policy/starmer and that means they are right wing' thing...in which case I see what you mean
