Apparently Fina's ruling is "not on". Speaking at the British LGBT Awards Daley said: "I was furious. You know, like most queer people, anyone that's told that they can't do something they love just because of who they are, it's not on. It's something I feel really strongly about. Giving trans people the chance to share their side."

No one is stopping trans people competing Tom. Just stopping them from competing unfairly in the wrong sex category. Trans women are free to compete in the male category and will also be in future if sport decides to have an open category.

Should we be surprised at his attitude? Not really, after all he thinks it's OK to rent a woman's body to produce a baby for him and his partner. He seemed to know what sex was then.

Tom Daly is an insufferable, nasty, misogynist male.

bellinisurge · 27/06/2022 14:19

Performative - all part of his brand building. He couldn't "not" say "something " to maintain his brand as an "ally".

TinselAngel · 27/06/2022 14:20

We could make 'reasonable adjustments' to assist.
It would have to be some kind of winch/ stretcher arrangement I should think.

Reallyreallyborednow · 27/06/2022 14:21

(High diving is different to the 10m Platform event)

yes I was thinking of the current olympic events. High diving is too insane for me 😂

BinBandit · 27/06/2022 14:22

It's very simple and straightforward and allowing trans/NB athletes have their own category is entirely appropriate.

Except that's not what they want. They want to compete as women and be guaranteed a win, not compete against other men. Also it would be a whole set up for a tiny proportion of the world and who is going to sponsor/pay for that event?

Sometimes in life you need to make choices and you can't have it all.

CousinKrispy · 27/06/2022 14:24

Yeah, I just think the argument "You can't have it because of biology, but you are welcome to have your own open category in which you can flourish" may be more compelling than "You can't have it because we say so" ;-)

MigsandTiggs · 27/06/2022 14:25

I would love to hear Tom's thoughts on the 29 yr old trans woman who just beat a 13yr old female in an urban skateboarding competition.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 27/06/2022 14:28

For fucks sake Tom. Why didn’t you give a trans woman the chance to gestate your child? They would have loved that. How could you prevent them doing something that they’d love so much? I mean GL is so fixated with pregnancy that GL compares GL’s withered penis to a miscarried foetus. Others buy plastic babies and shit them out. I’m livid you deprived them of the chance to experience pushing out a real baby. Equality for all!

Quite, he deliberately denied the opportunity of empowering paid surrogate work to trans women. Disgusting phobic bigot.

True, but then that doesn't apply in so many other situations and people just have to accept and get on with it or make tough choices. I mean, it's not like any of these "athletes" would ever make it to the Olympics if they weren't competing in the wrong category so it's not like they are actually losing anything? I think it was tested that reasonably athletic 13 year old boys could beat the women's world records in many events. We therefore allow them to compete in local athletic events in their age and sex category and not against women.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 14:34

It won’t be. Do you think Emily Bridges wants to compete either against a rather motley free of non-elite males (which is what would initially happen if there was an event put on solely for transwomen) or, assuming more and more talented young male cyclists transition and Bridges has some meaningful transwoman competition, against male people who might beat Bridges?

It’s validating for Bridges to lose to a couple of brilliant female cyclists.

achillestoes · 27/06/2022 14:35

Crew, not free.

Just wondering (not aimed at any particular poster)

Why is it that the opinion of a medal-winning Olympian who is part of the LGBT community can be dismissed (because he used a surrogate)

But.

Opinions of various misogynists (Boris Johnson, Matt Walsh) can be embraced and separated (by some) from their well-documented bigotry.

Because the first opinion is idiotic and misogynistic and the latter is not.

Shitty opinions dont become ok because you like who says it. And sensible opinions don't become terrible because you don't like who says it.

People who don't get this are a huge part of the problem.

WooFighters · 27/06/2022 14:45

He's good at falling into water. I don't know why he thinks that qualifies him to speak over professionals and attempt to trample womens rights.

Think we need to get away from holding up certain groups on moral pedestal. Just because some is gay, black etc does not automatically make them have a moral superiority or even a hive mind. Just because someone is white or straight doesn't mean they're a moral black hole. There are twats across all groups.
As Tom is demonstrating.

ShandaLear · 27/06/2022 14:46

Why not just convert the mens’ event into an Open category - so there would be a category for biological female women, and then an inclusive category for anyone who wanted to compete - including women, TG, and men athletes? That way, everyone who wanted to could compete could compete fairly. Or would that not work because the men would win all the medals 🧐

Toseland · 27/06/2022 14:47

Wow, what a misogynist creep. Ok Tom, say they are going to let new entrant male divers dope with 4 or 5 times your testosterone and have whatever body modifications they like - would that be fair to you?

Datun · 27/06/2022 14:48

It's the rank hypocrisy.

Understanding biology only too well when it comes to your own life, your sexual orientation, and you wanting acquire a child.

And then suddenly all that knowledge disappears up the wazoo when it comes to women understanding, the exact same biology.

"We need to be able to make inclusions for things, to make it able to be more accepting and safe for people.”

But only people like me, and all other males.

The only consolation he is way behind the zeitgeist. Just when everybody across the board agrees that it's patently unfair and obviously wrong to include males in female sport, he's saying the opposite.

I hope it makes everyone take a closer look at him and his misogyny.

Nail. On. Head.

Thank you – for speaking the truth.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 27/06/2022 14:50

He has no business being furious. The unfair competition of male-bodied people in female sports does not personally affect him.

BinBandit · 27/06/2022 14:51

Maybe they could do it like racehorses in a handicap race?

So have the mens' category as the "open" but if you are a biological male you get an appropriate penalty to even it out? So Tom would have to dive with an arm tied behind his back - that would be "fair" eh Tom?

Or his genitals tucked between his legs!

AryaStarkWolf · 27/06/2022 14:54

Maybe he'd care more for fairness in sports if his baby - born of a biological female - had been a girl rather than a boy

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 27/06/2022 14:55

Sometimes in life you need to make choices and you can't have it all.

This has been the precise line trotted out ad nauseam against women who wanted families and dared to keep on their careers. These women have been asking for nothing that men have always taken for granted they could have since time immemorial.

The phrase 'having it all' has been dinged in women's ears for generations as a means of telling us off for being such unreasonable, ball-breaking shrews.

Makes such a refreshing change when the boot is on the other foot. No, you can't assume the right to walk roughshod over women, whether or not we give our consent for you to do that. No, we don't roll over and capitulate. No, we don't agree to be elbowed out of our own sports, spaces, safety, or dignity.

#NoThankYou. NO.

And additionally female racehorses get a weight allowance when racing against male racehorses - 3lb in flat racing, 7lb in jump racing.

I wonder why would that be 🤔

I didn't know that! Have they got it right? Does it even things up properly or is there still an advantage to being male/female? How did they set what the weight should be?
