It makes their moods all over the place.

I mean us perimenopausal women take hrt for few other essential functions as well, but just as long as your moods are even mate.

Ha ha is all I have to say.

You want to be a woman? Well own it then and get used to being ignored and treated like you don't matter by the medical profession.

Oh and get used to some fucking mood swings!

BootsAndRoots · 04/06/2022 09:50

I imagine now that they are moaning about it the problem will get resolved very quickly.

Justme56 · 04/06/2022 09:52

I’m sure I read somewhere a link between high rates of oestrogen in male bodies and obesity. Maybe a lack of cross sex hormones could be unexpectedly beneficial?

MagnoliaTaint · 04/06/2022 09:53

Are there any health risks to males who take oestrogen suddenly stopping? Does it have any deleterious effects to stop?

FrancescaContini · 04/06/2022 09:58

Frankly these people can FOTTFSOF with their faux outrage. With their faux everything, tbh.

If there’s a shortage of HRT, what’s available should be readily accessible to adult human females. Anyone else can get to the back of the queue.

Belovedfool · 04/06/2022 09:58

I'm normally a very compassionate person but.......nah, I'm all out of fucks. I'll reserve my compassion for the real women I know who are desperate, frighted and fucking ill because their medical needs are not being met.

I actually read that article, in which they interviewed several trans people and found that none of them couldn’t get HRT, that they didn’t have to pay more, that trans women mostly get the drugs outside the UK as it’s easier and that pharmacies don’t prioritise women over trans women.

but still, “Won’t somebody think of the trans?!”

From reading the Mail article my interpretation is there are no health risks. The 'feelings' of gender dysphoria will return as the male hormones take precedence and turn the body to its natural state

JellySaurus · 04/06/2022 11:45

Daily Mail does it again. No tabloid hysteria, just clear, accurate language.

For men wising to be feminine, oestrogen helps shrink testes, reduce facial hair and muscle mass, and leads to development of breast tissue and rounder hips.

“For men wising to be feminine” - exactly.

^In women going through the menopause, HRT replaces the hormones the body stops making during the menopause.
It is used in this way to treat debilitating symptoms like hot flushes, brain fog, joint pains, mood swings and vaginal dryness.^

Would have liked them to include the life-saving effect of HRT in women - reducing osteoporosis.

About two weeks ago Government also issued officials issued a Serious Shortage Protocol (SSP) enabling pharmacists to hand out substitute forms of HRT without the patient having to go back to her GP for a fresh prescription.

Accurate pronoun. No fudging around with ‘they’.

I absolutely agree.

I always wonder about the 'testicular atrophy' part. That must be a it distressing if you've still got them? I know I certainly don't want the vaginal atrophy part of menopause!

Just out of curiosity, would the male hormones still be able to "take over" again if the testicles have been surgically removed? I've been binge watching Bad Girls and one of the storylines was about a transgender character who had had the vaginoplasty surgery and therefore no male gonads, but was unable to get hold of hormone treatment and had grown a full beard within days, outing them to the other prisoners. I know it's a fictional show but it just got me wondering how realistic that would be.

If you don't like you balls for whatever reason, then having them shrink may be quite comforting.

Even if you don't have any interest in using your vagina any more, vaginal atrophy itches, hurts and makes you more prone to infections. It makes you even more aware of your female anatomy, in an unpleasant way. It is in no way positive, or even neutral.

JellySaurus · 04/06/2022 12:01

Fionnula, how would he have the testosterone to grow a beard if he didn't have the testicles to produce it?

Thelnebriati · 04/06/2022 12:05

The adrenal glands produce some testosterone, but afaik not enough to grow a full beard in days.

I don't know, that's what made me question it although in fairness the storylines on that show were often daft and far fetched. Is testosterone only produced by either testicles or ovaries then, given that women also have levels of it albeit usually much lower unless they have a condition that causes hormonal imbalances like PCOS? And that if you have had surgery to remove those organs then some kind of hormone treatment would be necessary to prevent health complications?

Iamnotamermaid · 04/06/2022 12:15

They will just have to suck it up like the rest of us 'women'. No wonder there's no HRT left, the 'males' have used it all up...

Maybe being female is not quite the lark they thought it was - they need to learn it is not all makeup, hair and shoes. The mood swings are all part of 'being a woman', learn to handle them like the rest of us.

Pennox · 04/06/2022 13:03

Yeah. It's not all sexy negligee, pert breasts, high heels and girly pillow fights. Who knew?

(Yes we did, actual women. That have been through female puberty, periods, pregnancy, sexual assaults, finroids, endometriosis, pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and all the rest of it that the NHS and the police don't take seriously)..
