It makes their moods all over the place.

I mean us perimenopausal women take hrt for few other essential functions as well, but just as long as your moods are even mate.

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious So the Trans Women that undergoes gender reassignment surgery and takes HRT is still a man even though they are taking oestrogen which has been shown to fundamentally change how a person thinks and not just appears on the outside.

The only difference is there chromosomes and some physical characteristics that cannot be changed.

So yes. They are still biologically male which you answered in your last part of that.

They're still male, yes. They will still need some male only medical checks, such as prostate etc. They may have different presentations for things like heart attacks than a typical male if they've mucked about with cross sex hormones. Same of course goes for females who go through the transition process.
If absolutely no cross sex hormones are used, no surgery done.....what makes them any different from those of their own sex?

I do hope you've got something better than "feelings".

slowpoke5001 · 04/06/2022 19:33

I would recommend reading Gender: A Graphic Guide though.
It's a quick read and it explains most of what i've been talking about way better than I ever possibly can.

Similarly if anyone has any literature they would want me to read i'm happy to accept anything. The exception is news articles and youtube videos that do not quote proper sources

Belovedfool · 04/06/2022 19:35

Graphic as in explicit? Or graphic as in cartoon anime?

Cos the second is going to explain a lot.....

Gender reassignment surgery, BTW, is not a requirement to be trans.

I believe the majority of tw, including some very prominent ones, retain all their tackle.

Why?

Blaire White is, I believe, one of these people. Blaire also continues to use male facilities.

I also believe surgery is more common in transitioning females, with double mastectomy on many a teenagers Christmas list.

Why?

slowpoke5001 · 04/06/2022 19:46

Well their isn't any difference from their own sex but Sex and Gender are 2 separate things. That's why the terms AFAB and AMAB are used.

This is why non-binary people exist. Gender is a spectrum. It's also easy to say it isn't because if you have never experienced gender dysphoria or the feeling that you are not the gender assigned at birth you will never understand it. Similar to sexual orientation if you are strictly heterosexual you will not understand what it is like to be LGBT without asking others and getting there opinion

@JellySaurus I'm only using it because apparently the word Cis is now offensive

The word men isn’t offensive. Nor the word male. Yet transwomen get awfully offended if those accurate terms are used to describe them.

You seem set on asking for sources. Do you have a peer reviewed one to back your comment about oestrogen fundamentally changing how a person thinks?

SpindleForTheWorld · 04/06/2022 19:53

to distinguish between the 2 says our little squirrel.

The two what? Sexes, presumably. Glad that's sorted.

Yes, I would like to see this as well.

Indeed. Which is why where sex is relevant it takes priority over gender. Toilets, sports, prisons, women's equity opportunities, medicine, etc

Unfortunately, the only situations in which gender is relevant are either completely internal (ie how the individual believes about themselves) and in stereotypes.

We do not accept that stereotypes should control our lives, nor do we accept that an individual's beliefs should be imposed on others.

Try this

PonyPatter44 · 04/06/2022 19:58

@slowpoke5001 , you use the term AFAB - how does this align with sex being observed prior to birth? Does the sex assigned at birth ever differ from the observed sex pre- and post-birth?

DodoPatrol · 04/06/2022 20:04

Slowpoke, you sound as though you think other people posting here don't know what is said about sex and gender.

The thing is, on the whole we do know, and judge that sex is a necessary divider in cases where bodily strength, risk, privacy and medical issues differ between the two sexes.

Where's the argument for dividing by gender?

TheWeeDonkey · 04/06/2022 20:06

JellySaurus · 04/06/2022 19:08

a non trans women

Blimey, changed feet!

A non male female?

JellySaurus · 04/06/2022 20:08

🤯

JellySaurus · 04/06/2022 20:09

I think I'll stick to female and woman, thanks. The XY types can have male and man.

Waitwhat23 · 04/06/2022 20:09

The blurb for 'Gender: A Graphic Guide' reads as follows -

'Is masculinity ‘toxic’? Why are public toilets such a political issue? How has feminism changed the available gender roles – and for whom? Why might we all benefit from challenging binary thinking about sex/gender?'

It's the sex/gender part that interests me. Given that sex is binary, I assume that the author challenges binary thinking around gender and how that relates to the sex binary. If they (I am using the preferred pronoun of the author here) do not and are conflating sex and gender, then they are misrepresenting reality.

Pennox · 04/06/2022 20:11

Interesting. So do menopausal women become more manly in their thinking as their oestrogen levels decline? Does their fundamentally changed thinking revert back to womanly once they start HRT and replace the lost oestrogen?

What is womanly thinking? What is manly thinking? What do you think a woman is?

Somanysocks · 04/06/2022 20:13

I mostly lurk on here but thanks to all of you who have the energy and tenacity to keep going with your facts and resources for those who just don't get it.

I'm full of admiration.

Sazzasez · 04/06/2022 20:17

I’ve been taking an estrogen blocker for 8 years since breast cancer, and I’m 12 years post menopause. So I guess now I think like a man, do I?

Which man?

Belovedfool · 04/06/2022 20:17

No, just establishing your age bracket. Thankee kindly. Go ahead though, dismiss me. After all, by the time you're a menopausal woman, there won't be any need for hrt as there won't be any women, acknowledged as women anyway. I believe it was a TRA who said something along the lines of "enjoy your erasure".

Close the door on your way out, please.

Waitwhat23 · 04/06/2022 20:17

What is womanly thinking? What is manly thinking? What do you think a woman is?

Following on from that, I have PCOS and so have higher levels of testosterone than the average woman (still much lower than the male range). If it is being claimed that taking estrogen changes the fundamental way of thinking, does my female endocrine disorder make me think in a 'manly' way?

I too would like to see the evidence of these claims around estrogen.
