This seems to be a clear failure on the part of all adults involved, if what's reported here is accurate:

Girl ‘driven out of school for questioning trans ideology’

I obviously don't want anyone to name the school on here but I'm puzzled as to how they worked it out.

It's right there on her Twitter. Took me less than a minute.

ResisterRex · 18/05/2022 22:10

Clip of Zahawi saying he's concerned, would like to hear from the girl and any whistleblowers:

mobile.twitter.com/TheNewsDesk/status/1527006596345249792?cxt=HHwWgICyjZaagrEqAAAA

Unlike in his Times interview, he doesn't say "trans child" (I think?) but is more in the "struggling with identity" kind of choice of words. More neutral in that respect.

Also I would say that just because the school is apparently named elsewhere (I've not looked but I believe it has been from posts) doesn't mean we should do it here. It's not right.

So much for RMW's earlier claims then... (Hoping that her efforts in Allison's tribunal are equally effective.)

So much for RMW's earlier claims then..

I'm sure the RMW will apologise unreservedly for any distress occasioned to the young woman at the heart of this story. RMW might even reflect privately on the matter and resolve to Learn Lessons and to both Do Better and Be Better from now on.

Indeed. Do trans activists ever apologise for accusing women and girls of lying about bullying and sexual abuse?

The Times have a further story today:

The story was first published by TransgenderTrend here:

www.transgendertrend.com/transgender-ideology-in-schools/

It sounds as though the girl is in the middle of studying for exams and I would guess does not want to be identified.

Yes, that was my recollection. I'm glad the mainstream press has picked it up. Verification must be a dilemma for the whistleblower and the newspaper - this is a young girl whose life has already been overturned by outrageous bullying. From the Transgender TRend blog post, I inferred that she'd dropped out of school before her A Levels. THat is pretty catastrophic, particularly if it's, for example, one of the high-pressure LOndon girls' day schools.

Lil OJ trying to get hold of ‘the other side of the story’ and have the school named in the press. That would put this young woman in danger. Very poor form.

It struck me that LOJ's call out on Twitter for the "other side" was adding to the bullying. His tweets cast doubt on the girl's story.

So much for "We believe you"

FannyCann · 19/05/2022 07:08

Zahawi needs to have a word with the invited speaker from the House of Lords. Any guesses who that might have been? Ruth Hunt perhaps?

Slothtoes · 19/05/2022 07:13

www.ipso.co.uk/complain/ ?
NUJ complaints?

Definitely journalists shouldn’t wade into stuff publicly regarding individual kids in schools. That’s not how journalism is done, making ‘investigative’ shout outs on Twitter that could exacerbate problems.

Julie Bindel says she has been in touch with the girl and she considers she is now being bullied by Jones.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 19/05/2022 08:30

@FannyCann unlikely to be Hunt, funnily enough she tends to stay away from trans issues in the lords

I think more likely to be a Lib Dem peer

Mandodari · 19/05/2022 09:40

Jones is doubling down on his tweet, claiming journalistic integrity and still making out that the story is fake. He really is an obnoxious little twerp.

Clymene · 19/05/2022 17:37

Jones is despicable

And yet still The Guardian employ him. It’s almost like they don’t give a fuck about women & girls

oh wait!

Yeah, funny that isn't it. The person who instigated and spearheaded this bullshit movement suddenly completely silent about it.

Lynn Featherstone has been very outspoken about trans issues, hasn't she?

Horrified at that tweet from Julie Bindel. How distressing it must be for that young woman, especially when she must be about to take her A-levels.

Xenia · 19/05/2022 19:33

This is dreadful. The original Times article sums it up well. We used to have in schoosl all kinds of different people brought in to debate this - does god exist, people talking about pro or anti abortion, Labour/Tories and these were places where you could hold different views and were commended to the highest heavens for having good debating skills and debating with the speaker. Instead on this trans issue they seem to bring people in like a North Korean propaganda session to tell clever school girls like this what they must think and if they have different views from their fellow pupils the other girls think it is fine to treat the person like this - turn on them, shout at them etc.

nepeta · 19/05/2022 20:17

Why is the Guardian letting this happen? Owen is urging enormous numbers of his followers to go out to try to doxx the school and the girl on social media!

That is unethical behaviour.

Artichokeleaves · 19/05/2022 20:19

You'd think he'd have some basic idea of what this kind of pressure and harassment of a teenaged girl risks. Goodness knows he shouts enough about being sensitive to and careful of teenagers from groups he actually cares about it, it's not like he doesn't know. Bloody irresponsible.

EmpressoftheMundane · 19/05/2022 21:39

Are there no consequences for OJ? Is he not breaking any professional standards here?

GoodThinkingMax · 19/05/2022 21:39

Presumably he thinks she deserves it.

I very much think he does @TastefulRainbowUnicorn . That she doesn't deserve to be treated like a human being because of her "beliefs."

Of course all she did was ask questions and put another point of view.

This is what gets me.

I remember having these kinds of debates in formal settings in my school in my teens. And what is interesting is that not always, but often, the level of the debates was higher than it is now in places like the mainstream media. There was an expectation that in these issues both sides were bringing some high level arguments to the table and they had to be treated seriously.
