Here twitter.com/talktv/status/1514542152885452804?s=21&t=g7M6M2EAFww7ZBC6MK5mFQ

Will she get a back lash for this, I wonder?

I’ve given up caring if she does.

I’m actually maddened by this. “Of course not!!! Ha ha.”

As if women - and she says she fights for women’s rights and in their interests - haven’t been threatened, doxxed, fired, harassed and called racist fascists for saying this precise thing for about a decade.

And now she’s on about ‘debased debate’?

Nah.

bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 19:38

No, I don't like her on this either. I suspect she's finally seeing which way the wind is blowing. Her muddled performance on here was so dreadful.
But it's interesting to see she's saying it

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 19:42

And before people start giving her credit, she has just said “women only spaces” and then spoken about sex and gender. She isn’t on our side here. She would say single sex if she was, and then explain what she means by that.

Somanysocks · 14/04/2022 19:46

Didn't see all of that interview, but does she say that TWAW still?

dropthevipers · 14/04/2022 19:46

Oh dear. Guess she will now know what it's like to be duffed up by both sides.

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 19:46

The quote: ‘I have worked most of my life in women-only spaces and I know there is a difference between sex and gender, and I think people should be respected regardless.’

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 19:47

She distinguishes between the biology of women and TW, so she recognises they are separable concepts. But she doesn’t seem to see that as having policy implications.

FOJN · 14/04/2022 19:48

Excuse me a moment

FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF

As you were

bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 19:48

@tabbycatstripy , she's getting there if she says women and transwomen are not the same. Curious as to whether she's going to back peddle are trot out semantic bollocks to appease the TRAs

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 19:49

Still ain't voting Labour until I hear TWATW from Starmer AND TW should not be in single sex spaces

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 19:50

Unless it's men's single sex spaces

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 19:51

Just curious to watch this play out. She's no friend to women on this

OP posts:
Whatsnewpussyhat · 14/04/2022 19:52

So no woman has a penis and sex and gender are different. Yes. We agree.

So why the fuck should any man's gender identity entitle them to access to female only, penis free spaces segregated by sex?

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 19:53

‘she's getting there if she says women and transwomen are not the same.’

I don’t think so at all. She has spent years participating in the building of the edifice “TWAW”. She knows this debate inside out and has pretended otherwise throughout the whole of the pushback campaign by women. She has watched women suffer. Now she says she doesn’t like the “sloganeering” - she was fine when women were being called terfs, though.

Now she comes out and talks like it’s all perfectly simple and obvious, but her wording is very careful. What does she mean by the quote above?

To me, it sounds like she is saying people should be admitted to “women-only spaces” regardless of biology.

sashagabadon · 14/04/2022 19:54

Didn’t we use to say female-only spaces not woman-only spaces?
I think using “woman” when previously linguistically you would use “female” is just the latest trick to fool us.

RoyalCorgi · 14/04/2022 19:56

It sounds to me as if the Labour leadership are panicking and have finally come up with an agreed line, which is essentially "Biology is important! Of course it is! Ha ha ha ha" combined with "but trans women are important too! And they have very sad lives! So we need to be kind to everyone!" And then they hope that no one drills down into the detail.

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 19:57

‘I think using “woman” when previously linguistically you would use “female” is just the latest trick to fool us.’

Yes. The EA exceptions allow people to be excluded based on sex, and based on gender reassignment. They don’t allow us to exclude all ‘masculine presenting people’. That would be illegal discrimination.

IsabelaMadrigal · 14/04/2022 20:00

Who's got the least integrity then?

Her boss who says he doesn't know what a woman is, when he still miraculously managed to marry one and procreate with.

Or Jess who says transwomen have penis(but presumably are still women)

She thinks she's being clever because she sidestepped by using subcategories. A bit like if fox activists were 'transhens are hens' but then conceded that yes, obviously foxes have teeth, not beaks.

Just because she's saying the quiet part quiet doesn't mean it's any better. It's dishonest, as she's counting on the uniformed hearing that statement of 'fact' and thinking it's sensible, knowing full well they won't have heard the batshit she's endorsed previously.

Sadly, the bar for the golden bridge is low!

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 14/04/2022 20:00

Didn't JP make a huge deal of how she'd supported the Miller WESC?

tanstaafl · 14/04/2022 20:01

My worry is this shadow cabinet change their tune ONLY to get elected.
Then it’s as you were.

Leopards and spots?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/04/2022 20:01

How fucking stupid do they think we are? They haven't changed their minds. None of them believed in gender ideology in the first place. They knew perfectly well who's a woman, but they pretended not to, while it suited. Now they've stopped pretending not to know, for a bit, for the local elections. If the tide changes again, they'll change back. They are happy to endorse a lie that undermines all women have fought for, as long as the endorsement doesn't lose them votes.

I would have no problem with an MP who had fallen for the Be Kind, Stunning and Brave narrative a few years ago (as many now GC women did), then changed her mind. On the contrary, I'd applaud her courage - it's not easy to fess up to a mistake as a politician. But that's not what's happening with the Labour front bench. You can hear it in their lawyer-honed equivocations.

Any woman who falls for this is an absolute fool.

stimpyyouidiot · 14/04/2022 20:02

She's deleted tweets before because of backlash. Will not be surprised if she does it again

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 20:05

It’s the jolly tone that gives it away, isn’t it? “Duh - obviously women don’t have penises! (Quiet part: TW have penises and you must treat them as if they are indistinguishable from female people.)”

oliviastwisted · 14/04/2022 20:06

Labour need to say exactly what Boris said:

Women need single sex spaces,
Children should be protected from surgery and medication that will cause life long issues.
Women's sport is for women only

and then they can actually set about doing what they say they want to do, which virtually everyone wants every political party to do, improve all of society for trans people instead of wasting time trying gaslight their voters into denying bloody abject reality.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 14/04/2022 20:08

She’s trivialising it all massively. ‘Culture war.’ Boris ‘shoving this little thing in to make it difficult for people like me.’

Never mind the women stuck in prison with men. Forget about the trans widows & the women who can’t use refuges because they’re not single sex. This is a debate blown out of proportion & we need to focus on making things better for trans people.

Fuck that.
