Here twitter.com/talktv/status/1514542152885452804?s=21&t=g7M6M2EAFww7ZBC6MK5mFQ

Will she get a back lash for this, I wonder?

Of course Johnson is no friend of women and sees a political opportunity to undermine Labour. It's up to Labour to respond to that with the kind of language people want to hear. Not semantic bollocks that withers under the slightest interrogation.
Her Dolores Umbridge-esque laughing shows they are worried and are testing the waters. Streeting didn't get savaged but he's a man so he wouldn't (in Tra-Tra land, he wouldn't count as a witch). Jess Phillips is an "ally" (TM) and has kept her distance from Rosie Duffield. They are testing whether she gets screamed at now.

My concern about Johnson is he is saying what he thinks will help him electorally now, but he will happily sell women down the river when he wants to.

Of course he would but the Tories like winning and they know self ID is not a vote winner so, for now, the Tories are amenable to pressure and we should use that advantage whilst we have it.

That is a tough call, more women will be harmed by voting for the Tories. I would not be able to do it myself. I do not think the Tories are amenable to pressure, I think they are using you.
DifficultBloodyWoman · 15/04/2022 00:01

I’ve had enough of politicians playing with language. I have degrees in linguistics so my tolerance level is probably much higher than most!

Please, please, please - can we get the politicians on TV rather than radio and present them with:

  • a Barbie doll in typical Barbie clothes
  • a Barbie doll wearing Ken’s clothes and with a haircut from my 7 year old
  • a Ken doll in typical Ken doll clothes
  • a Ken doll wearing a wig and one of Barbie’s dresses
  • a box labelled women’s toilets
  • a box labelled men’s urinals

Then ask the politicians to put the dolls in the boxes.

I will base my vote on their classifications.

It is ridiculous to have got to this point! And I am aware that I am reducing this to the most ridiculous possible level. But that is what happens when you have listened to years of lies, obfuscation, and phrases such as TWAW, girl dick, and birthing parent.

I have no idea what people actually believe anymore. But if you want my vote, I need to know what you think in plain, simple, unambiguous English. Or, if language proves too complicated, use visual aides as outlined above.

@bellinisurge

The "may " is actually "probably does". This is what changed my view. Something like 80% of those transwomen who have a GRC are still fully intact. And that's WITH a GRC. I'd kind of assumed it was a tiny bunch of men so emotionally tortured that they had their dicks cut off. So I was prepared to Be Kind. It isn't and I'm not.
Don't they 'deflesh' them and get them turned inside out? So, technically they don't get their penis cut off, they get an inverted penis (with a patchwork of other body parts sewn on sometimes, I think).
Cailleach1 · 15/04/2022 00:11

Silk purse and sow's ear come to mind.

IsabelaMadrigal · 15/04/2022 00:14

Not the 80-90% Callie.
By intact we mean the way they were born, balls, shaft and all.

StopStartStop · 15/04/2022 00:19

'Glib bitch' is my response to that video. She's too far down the rabbit hole for me to value a word she says.

Winniefred · 15/04/2022 01:43

Imho, Jess has played to the gallery and will continue to play to the gallery! She promotes herself as caring about female rights, reads out the names of murdered women and then proceeds to fence sit, getting skelfs in her behind, as Women take misogynistic abuse, rape threats & death threats for saying No to the appropriation of female identity & space! Women have no need of the Jess Phillips of this world while they do & say nothing about the vile treatment of Rosie Duffield & Joanna Cherry! And it irks me that she has been given the role of reading out Murdered Women’s names while telling women to be “kind” to Transwomen who transgress female boundaries! Get tae!

FOJN · 15/04/2022 06:30

All women will be harmed by self ID. Please vote for whoever has policies you most agree with. I judge our politicians not the electorate. The Tories have backtracked, they didn't decide to do that on their own so I disagree they are not amenable to pressure. Labour have attempted to exploit "be kind" and it's backfired.

bellinisurge · 15/04/2022 07:36

"Don't they 'deflesh' them and get them turned inside out? So, technically they don't get their penis cut off, they get an inverted penis (with a patchwork of other body parts sewn on sometimes, I think)."

No. 80% don't. Dick still there. With self-ID or, as we have now, de facto self-ID, a non-GRC TW without a GRC will 100% still have their dick. Am I obsessed with dick? No. But I am concerned about a dick-owner being near me, my sister or my daughter when we are in a vulnerable situation. Like hospital ward or a women's toilet. Y'know, what with 98% of sex offences being committed by people with dicks and a prosecution rate so low, the judiciary seem to barely consider it a crime to assault a woman or girl.

I've seen women on Twitter pretty much begging Jess Phillips to stand up for their rights and she totally ignored them. The fact that she has been heavily involved in moving the ground against women over trans rights says she's not to be trusted an inch, she'd sell us all down the river in a heartbeat. Her new 'shift', such as it is, makes me very angry actually. When Labour drops the gender self ID policy they'll have my attention.

tabbycatstripy · 15/04/2022 08:13

I wouldn’t care about self-ID if:

  • it only applied to people over 18
  • there was a clear presumption in law against harassment over gender critical belief (no compelled speech, including at work, in court, online etc)
  • single sex spaces were properly protected
  • crime was recorded by sex, not gender ID
  • schools and universities were teaching fact, not ideology

Self-ID itself isn’t my issue.

bellinisurge · 15/04/2022 08:26

@tabbycatstripy sounds reasonable as long as you add to that "don't use dehumanising words about women like cervix haver or say stuff like "people seeking abortion " (one I saw yesterday).
TWATW and it's on men to be more accepting in their spaces /businesses to create 3rd spaces but not at the expense of provision for women or disabled people

tabbycatstripy · 15/04/2022 08:29

Yes, it’s probably fair to say I won’t support self-ID while businesses, public services and politicians are still steeped in gender woo.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/04/2022 08:30

My concern about Johnson is he is saying what he thinks will help him electorally now, but he will happily sell women down the river when he wants to

Our choice is between a party that might sell women's rights down the river in the future, versus one that is definitely doing so now. Doesn't seem that hard a choice. And I say that as someone who has never voted Tory, and despises Johnson.

tabbycatstripy · 15/04/2022 08:31

I find it insulting that we’re even asked to support it while police forces threaten us with being cavity searched by male people.

It’s not even-handed. If people just said “People should be able to self-ID but it shouldn’t affect others who perceive men and women by sex”, I’d be okay with it.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/04/2022 08:33

Only a tiny percentage of transwomen have had any surgery. Most have normally functioning male genitalia.

It is a judgment call, I think it is a hard choice, because the Tories are also selling women out today and will continue unashamedly making the lives of women worse, through the cuts to police, rape/dv services, courts, benefits etc. More women will die as a result of these Tory policies, but that is a choice all women have to make, I will not tell women how to vote.

But I completely reject it is a simple decision - because that implies I care less about women than you do because I will not vote Tory just because they are making populist noises on this issue whilst selling women out with every actual policy.

Under self-ID it would be impossible to protect single sex spaces and record crime by biological sex. If any man can become legally female just by making a declaration, there is no way to legally make a distinction between a woman and a man who says he is a woman.

Or are you just referring to informal self-ID which is what we have already?

tabbycatstripy · 15/04/2022 08:46

I’m just saying those are my red lines. If they make self-ID unworkable then they do. That’s for someone else to figure out.

But I suspect it would be possible for a GRC and associated documentation to declare both legal sex and natal sex.

ArcheryAnnie · 15/04/2022 08:54

A fairly basic requirement of our elected representatives is that they don't say the earth is flat. It's taken Jess how many years to declare, with caveats, that the earth isn't flat?

Meh.

Yes and this is an issue. It is incomprehensible to me why Labour have allowed it to get so silly.
Narutocrazyfox · 15/04/2022 09:03

@fojn my sentiments exactly! 😁

Summed up beautifully by the way.

OldCrone · 15/04/2022 09:15

But I suspect it would be possible for a GRC and associated documentation to declare both legal sex and natal sex.

What would be the point of a GRC then? The whole point of the GRA as originally passed was to falsify the legal documentation (birth certificate etc) of a GRC holder so that they could be legally recognised as the opposite sex in almost all circumstances.
