Here twitter.com/talktv/status/1514542152885452804?s=21&t=g7M6M2EAFww7ZBC6MK5mFQ

Will she get a back lash for this, I wonder?

@stimpyyouidiot

She's deleted tweets before because of backlash. Will not be surprised if she does it again
Well, that’s one thing - it’s not her tweet to delete. She’d have get Talk TV to remove the video.
bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 20:14

@tabbycatstripy , you're right. She's not getting there.
She's an out and out handmaiden. But it shows they are getting twitchy

Jess' schtick as a 'woman of the people' is very sickening. I have no time at all for her. The only thing she needs to say out loud is an apology to her colleague. She's a chancer at best and a charlatan at worst.

lovelyweathertoday · 14/04/2022 20:17

I welcome the fact that Labour are finally having to admit that women don't have penises.

Small steps, they'll get there in the end. Keep letting them know that not respecting our sex means they won't get our X!

MiladyBerserko · 14/04/2022 20:22

She's a hypocrite and a coward.

Just because she sees the way the wind is blowing doesn't mean she has any credibility. Or integrity.

Yes, on one hand it's a good thing they are being made to explain. On the other I can't stand the snide, gaslighty tone where they insinuate that of course nobody was ever saying that and women have been making a fuss over nothing.

It's all just been a big misunderstanding as we stood by and watched women be fired for stating biological fact and Rosie Duffield was horribly abused by her own party.

bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 20:30

She can't unsay it now

That clip was posted here:

Jess Phillips has shown us who she is www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4528387-Jess-Phillips-has-shown-us-who-she-is

She keeps saying "lol!! of COURSE I don't think that!!" which is the new

lovelyweathertoday · 14/04/2022 20:32

I can see your point. I just think we're going to have to let them change course after a hard stare, like cats slinking away from each other pretending they aren't backing down.

FemaleAndLearning · 14/04/2022 20:35

She reminded me of Emma Watson in that interview with Paris Lee. What abortion thing was she talking about? She seemed to be saying women had debased the argument by naming body parts. Dies she still think transwomen are women? That is the slogan. Until I hear her say transwomen are transwomen I just don't believe her.

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 20:36

She isn’t changing course. She’s continuing to condescend to women about a complex rights conflict she pretends doesn’t exist, so she can take the opposite side to us and call us right wing.

Chrysanthemum5 · 14/04/2022 20:37

@FOJN

Excuse me a moment

FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF
FUCK OFF

As you were

Exactly this
MrsOvertonsWindow · 14/04/2022 20:41

But she can't say that only women have a cervix as Keir said that's forbidden. And what about Lammy growing cervixes in men? Where's he? They're going to have to do a lot more than a few tinkly laughs and handwaving away all their previous batshittery and toxic lies.

BUT - it's a sign they've recognised that lies and biology denial aren't vote winners so small steps and all that.

Rainbowshit · 14/04/2022 20:42

Ok I think we need to give some praise here while still keeping the pressure up to commit to single sex spaces. At least the window is shifting back towards some sense.

WeeBisom · 14/04/2022 20:50

This is what I find crazy making about this whole thing. For YEARS, gender critical feminists have been called nasty bigoted "TERFS" for daring to say things like 'transwomen are transwomen. They are male. They are not female. Women do not have penises." We have had to endure threats and ostracisation. And the other side was clearly saying 'Women can have penises because transwomen ARE women. Stop reducing women to body parts!"

Does she not realise in this interview that she has repeated gender critical talking points? She has made a distinction between women (who of COURSE laughs can't have penises) and transwomen who may have a penis. Does she not realise that is forbidden? And is she wiling to now concede that we have a point and we aren't hateful bigots after all, that we have always said there is a distinction between 'sex' and 'gender' (whatever that is) and thus transwomen do not belong in female only spaces?

I just can't believe it. It's actually anxiety inducing to have been cast as a villain for so long and then to have a TRA casually turn round and say 'oh yeah, of COURSE everything the gender crits have been saying is right and makes perfect sense :)"

tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 20:53

‘is she wiling to now concede that we have a point and we aren't hateful bigots after all, that we have always said there is a distinction between 'sex' and 'gender' (whatever that is) and thus transwomen do not belong in female only spaces?’

I don’t think she concedes this. She’s obfuscating about the fact that she believes in “woman-only spaces” regardless of whether womanhood is determined by sex or gender.

bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 20:54

Her repeated reference to abortion is an attempt to have feminists move to .... whatever the hell her position is

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 20:59

The abortion thing is frustrating. I don’t believe (particularly) in ‘advancing’ abortion rights. Why does everything have to be ‘advanced’ with these people? Why can’t issues be weighed up, with sensible arguments on both sides and (sometimes) a status quo maintained? A treatment is either safe and effective or it’s not. It was reasonable to give a free vote on the telemedical abortion issue.

No political party in England is threatening women’s abortion rights. To pretend otherwise to win the debate on trans rights is to dive into the culture war and start dragging the American religious right into the UK debate. Nonsensical.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/04/2022 21:00

I don’t trust Jess Philips at all and these were carefully worded statements to make the general public think Labour is protecting women and single sex spaces when they are following the party line.

JP really does seem to like pretending she’s not that bright when it suits her with her disingenuous tinkly laugh and child distracting tactics: Ooh look, pretty butterfly. It is so patronising!

bellinisurge · 14/04/2022 21:09

Abortion votes are not whipped are they? I thought they were free votes in parliament

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 14/04/2022 21:11

I’ve always thought so. It’s a matter of conscience, not right or left wing.

doublemonkey · 14/04/2022 21:13

She's going to wreck her knees jumping on and off bandwagons like that.

Artichokeleaves · 14/04/2022 21:20

Ah. So you've got no bloody integrity Jess, and no common sense either, but you can make your mouth say anything you think might currently be in your personal best interests?

Way too late, and we're not that stupid.

Dinosauria · 14/04/2022 21:20

@RoyalCorgi

It sounds to me as if the Labour leadership are panicking and have finally come up with an agreed line, which is essentially "Biology is important! Of course it is! Ha ha ha ha" combined with "but trans women are important too! And they have very sad lives! So we need to be kind to everyone!" And then they hope that no one drills down into the detail.
Agree. She can fuck off. Where was her support for Rosie Duffield?
ResisterRex · 14/04/2022 21:22

I'm not sure if it's a matter of conscience or if it's some kind of convention but it's always been a free vote. She just shouldn't be fucking about with this, it's gutter politics and (as you can tell) it really gets my back up. It's not needed, or relevant, it feels threatening and it's plain wrong.
