@MoonOnASpoon, as you asked, I popped back to check the article.

It was written by Ryan Gilbey.

Thanks universal, I checked too, to see the context. I find a lot of things about GI scary but this is one of the worst, this attempt to boot JKR out of her own creative product because she doesn’t agree with a baseless ideology - it’s so insane. And thinking that that’s possible in any way. You can’t just decide the author of something is somehow just not involved because you wish they weren’t.

Jk has been (massively inappropriately) compared with people like Eric Gill and others whose personal behaviour or views make people wonder if they and they work should be cancelled. I’ve heard the same discussion about Wagner. But even in those cases, I haven’t heard anyone say that the solution is to pretend that the person didn’t create the thing they did create! Just bonkers.

Hate to be a dick but I feel I should raise the point I made a Jonathan Franzen The Erections joke a couple of pages ago(nad).

DomesticatedZombie · 09/04/2022 21:34

Oh, and here it is popping up again, Delirium! Grin

Is a trans scholar someone who only identifies as a scholar?

Helleofabore · 16/04/2022 08:51

Crcohetmonster. Good question.

I still can't stop laughing over the definition of 'woman' Lavery has suggested, to replace the biological one: someone who takes a passive role in sex and a reproductive role in economic life.

The feminist movement will truly make hay with that definition under their belts!

Crcohetmonster · 16/04/2022 15:20

So does GL believe a domanatrix is not a woman? Is any female who goes out to work and produces something not a woman? So basically the only women are transwomen and stay at home mums. Rightyho.

Looks like it. I can't quite see what reproductive role in economic life GL has taken, herself. But her definition is clearly based on retrogressive views about what women are and actually is an almost exact match for the religious right's views (in all religions, not just Christianity) on what women are allowed to be.

That might not be a coincidence as the gender ideology, by necessity, must replace biological sex with something like sexist stereotypes in defining women and men (because all other attempts to define the concepts would be empirically empty).

In that it is much closer to the anti-feminists views common among religious and political conservatives of all stripes than to what used to be the views on the political left.

Jesus, careful, ladies, if you happen to wink at your significant other after a glass of wine on a Friday night you risk doing a genderflip and waking up manly by accident.

Ditto if you forget to have children and get a job. Check for beard hairs.

Crcohetmonster · 16/04/2022 16:02

But I have children and a job! Am I non binary then?
