@OatSprout

From the Guardian However on Thursday evening the UCI ruled that Bridges was not in compliance with its regulations as she is still registered as a male cyclist - and cannot compete as a woman until her current UCI ID expires.

So a technicality that BC would surely have been fully aware of, yet they were supporting EB to compete anyway?

Absolute bastards.

Where is their care and compassion for women? We are totally sidelined.

Sadly also rather typical that under that Guardian article all the related content is news of male cyclists. Goes back to Pogacar’s Strade Bianche win but not one mention of any women’s news or successes such as Elisa Balsamo’s 3 recent wins, and Lotte Kopecky’s brilliant Strade Bianche win. In fact there isn’t one Guardian article on women’s cycling since 22nd October last year.

It’s like women’s sport doesn’t exist.

They just don’t see women’s sport as equal. It’s all about the men. But we knew that really.

Does anyone know what the rules are for trans men? They are allowed to take testosterone I assume? And are then allowed to compete in the mens competitions? Only we never see any compete because their female bodies that have been through female puberty is a hindrance to them when competing against males. Which kind of proves that it’s not just about hormones.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/03/2022 11:42

They tend to be competing against other female people, weirdly enough.

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon

Jeremy Vine is discussing this article on Radio 2 today if anyone fancies calling in.
Sharron Davies is on apparently. She won't let Jeremy get away with his usual "Be Kind" crap.
ChateauMargaux · 31/03/2022 11:58

I am really glad that the great dames of sport have started to speak up about this in the UK. I am glad that the race will go ahead this weekend without any male bodied athletes and I hope that the governing bodies consult with women and allow them a safe space to discuss their concerns.

Quppity · 31/03/2022 11:58

Ereshkigalangcleg they can’t comptete in female competition though if they are supplementing with testosterone though, or can they?

Femalewoman · 31/03/2022 12:02

Good. Individuals born male should not compete against individuals born female. You can change your gender but you cannot change your biological sex so therefore have massive physical advantage if born male over a person born female.

There is strong speculation that, as with F1, there might be team orders not to break Kenny's records or achievements straightaway…

Bridges still as time and opportunities to qualify for the Olympics.

Femalewoman · 31/03/2022 12:04

@Plasmodesmata

Are Emily's qualifications good enough for a spot on the male team? If so then Emily could still compete this weekend. A male teammate could give up his spot no problem, right?
Exactly. Biological male against biological male.
notacooldad · 31/03/2022 12:06

👏

LizzieSiddal · 31/03/2022 12:06

Sorry Laura. But maybe something like this needs to happen in a Laura Kenny race. She is a well known national treasure. It would peak the whole country.

I agree. I remember about four years ago, someone saying the same. Why didn’t the sporting bodies see it coming a mile off? I expect they presumed women athletes would “be kind”.Angry

WinterTrees · 31/03/2022 12:07

Just turned over to listen to the Jeremy Vine coverage. He used to be comically 'be kind', with a special soft, compassionate voice for TW and much admiration for their bravery, but he listened to the Nolan podcast which I think may have opened his eyes a bit to the shitshow, poor lamb.

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:11

Listening to Vine right now. Good first speaker.

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:11

Very clear about male advantage.

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:13

Jeremy refusing to answer question about what transitioning actually means.

WinterTrees · 31/03/2022 12:13

The speaker is Sharron Davies. She's been in this rodeo for a while. She knows her stuff. (Like Maya. Like all of us.)

'But she's transitioned,' says JV, on the subject of Emily competing with women.
'But what does that mean?' says SD.
'I don't want to answer that question,' says JV.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 31/03/2022 12:14

Sharron Davies is doing a wonderful job on Radio 2

Jeremy won't answer what "transition" means

ResisterRex · 31/03/2022 12:15
Shock

India(?) saying Sharron said "downright lies"

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:15

Now someone (Emily, maybe?) banging on about Cis Women and how trans athletes have no advantage because science.

Fizbosshoes · 31/03/2022 12:15

Sharon Davies and India Willoughby on Jeremy Vine.

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:16

Oh, I'm so glad it's Sharron Davies. She's been an absolute hero, sticking her neck out when others wouldn't.

WinterTrees · 31/03/2022 12:16

India Willoughby weighing in with a lot of extremely dodgy 'facts', that any listener would know immediately aren't true.

Peter Crouch has an advantage as a goalkeeper because he's tall, but we don't stop him playing football. 🙄

Sharon was excellent on this.

Why do they always wheel our India to give the trans view?

bellabelly · 31/03/2022 12:18

Oh, is it India Willoughby? I missed the intro. I am not sure that India is the best person to represent the other side of the debate - always so me, me, me.
