Define women I guess?
In that case the Labour Party should stfu about VAWAG, womens services or anything concerning women. I've they cannot define a woman how can they claim to be able to organise laws and services for them

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 29/03/2022 07:54

www.spectator.co.uk/article/starmer-won-t-talk-about-sex-and-gender-that-s-a-problem

She should read this to find out why it's a problem.

NecessaryScene · 29/03/2022 07:54

"I don't think it helps for politicians to define this".

That sort of insight would have been useful before passing the GRA 2004.

Can we get a repeal then?

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 29/03/2022 08:00

I just saw this WTF?
Could you define what a woman is?..
She said:
I don't think it's for politicians to say this......I don't think it should be degraded to be what genetalia you have...social media bubbble blah....I know what I define MYSELF but its degrading to define it by whether or not you have a cervex........

It' DEGRADING to define a woman by what sex characteristics you have!
Labour are going to define woman by an internal feeling, they have chosen to ignore the huge numbers of women opposing this.

suckingonchillidogs · 29/03/2022 08:04

At least this is filtering through to mainstream tv shows now. Labour are really going to need to come up with a different strategy on this, it's not going away.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 29/03/2022 08:06

Their new ongoing utter idiocy on this topic is why they will not get elected. Not because (sadly) ppl give a fuck about womens rights but because Labour look such utter bellends blithering on about how it’s complicated to define what a woman is. It’s a gift ti the Tories “Labour can’t even tell what a woman is, how can they be trusted to run the country”

Franklin12 · 29/03/2022 08:08

She is a huge liability to Labour. She moans and moans (another one who doesn’t want to be power- just wants to snipe from the sidelines) and not be questioned on her decision making.

She sounded deluded and I wish they had pushed her more.

Franklin12 · 29/03/2022 08:16

I wish someone would read the riot act to Labour about this. Bit like the Ed Stone. Who on earth thought that was a good idea to list out some vague ideas and then promote the stone.

It made people think that if these were the best ideas from the sidelines what on earth would they be like in power. Corbyn was a disaster with his sitting on the fence ideas and people recognised because he wasn’t good in the media they kept him away and brought out Diane Abbott et al.

Needless to say they lost - badly and don’t seemed to have learnt anything at all. This issue will lose them the election yet again but as I have said before on another thread - maybe they don’t want the power.

AuntyFungal · 29/03/2022 08:16

What should politicians define then? Seems to be a major part of their job spec - forming legislation.

PronounssheRa · 29/03/2022 08:17

If you can't or won't define things you can't make good law.

Labour look such utter bellends blithering on about how it’s complicated to define what a woman is

Yes. Where are the Labour Party advisors? Why are they not doing their jobs properly.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 29/03/2022 08:20

I think the problem is Labour Party advisers all Live in a bubble where everyone buys into it.

Franklin12 · 29/03/2022 08:23

Yes, why dont the buy a true Tory blue and tell them to give it to them with both barrels as to why they keep losing.. What do they need to do to win the next election etc.

MichelleScarn · 29/03/2022 08:26

Another WTF here, and to think there's been posters on previous threads who think we have to vote this shit show in and we can have lovely discussions with them to change their mindset!! Confused
NotBadConsidering · 29/03/2022 08:27

They can’t define woman in interviews, but you can be damned sure that if they get into power they’ll be able to define it for laws they want to pass.

Franklin12 · 29/03/2022 08:28

Also some of the old guard in Labour, Abbott, Corbyn, McDonnell are still around making Labour seem unhinged. It was unforgivable to use Abbott as she is clearly unwell and giving her Shadow Home Secretary role made people think she would be a complete joke on the world stage not that they ever had a chance of being in power with those 3 in particular being in charge.

DO THEY REALLY NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG? IF THEY REALLY DONT THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE ANYONE NEAR RUNNING THE COUNTRY.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/03/2022 08:35

All the Conservatives need to do is to roll out a simple clear statement with an accurate definition of women (or men), alongside an explanation of how the law impacts in terms of a GRC and it's a win win for them.
They could even go as far as recognising that this raises competing rights in certain areas like sport, hospital wards etc and that this needs thoughtful and sensitive discussions and they'll all look like bloody Nobel Peace Prize winners.
That Labour are so down the trans rabbit hole that they can't do this demonstrates their real problem of demonstrating their unfitness to confront massive world problems (Ukraine, poverty etc) if they're only able to pronounce the trans lobby drivel in response to questions.

Helleofabore · 29/03/2022 08:37

On the other hand, this is creating a great deal of interest in groups of people who were previously unaware.

The mainstream media is treating labour like a joke on this issue and it gets sound bites for them, And questions from so many who were previously oblivious.

AssignedBlobbyAtBirth · 29/03/2022 08:42

Tbf the Ed stone was hysterical Grin

AngelinaFibres · 29/03/2022 08:44

My SIL is a life long labour supporter and local party member. She loved Jeremy Corbyn in an almost cult member type way. I expected her to buy into all this transwomen are women bullshit. She is appalled by it all and has said she cannot vote Labour if they keep on with this not defining a woman stuff. Do their advisors not look at forums like this to see what actual women think. Gordon Brown had a mumsnet moment, I belive , so they must know it exists

JanetPluchinsky · 29/03/2022 08:45

She kept wanging on about young people’s identity. That’s not really what this is about though. It’s the middle aged transitioners who want to keep their cocks who are the ones obfuscating the conversation. Frankly, Ange; it DOES hinge on genitalia when we’re talking about intact adult males in female spaces.

TheLadyDIdGood · 29/03/2022 08:51

Honestly they've handed the next five elections to the Tories in a gift box. The problem is that like minded GC people don't have a voice in labour circles. We can't get ourselves on election lists or near to positions of power to make a difference. It's actually undemocratic what Labour is doing, they're not standing for all views and free speech. They're just the mouthpiece of stonewall and the trans activists atm.

OvaHere · 29/03/2022 08:51

I wish someone would read the riot act to Labour about this.

Where's Malcolm Tucker when you need him eh?

Franklin12 · 29/03/2022 08:53

This will come back to haunt them. Imagine someone putting together all these quotes, even Cooper got in on this one and I would have expected better from her.

With some good editing they would look unhinged. Right up against the next election….do they not recognise they will look even more stupid than they do now. Johnson knows how to win an election. Tories will dump someone if they don’t think they will win. Labour limp on and bar Blair they are clueless as to what they need to do to win.

Fenlandia · 29/03/2022 08:56

Replace 'woman' with any other protected characteristic and it sounds just as bonkers. In order to protect vulnerable groups, you have to be able to name them and define them. We don't live in a utopian gender-neutral, unracist, undiscrimatory world, that's why we have laws
