Some bearded American pillocks are objecting to the idea of Mumsnetters talking about feminism. Hadley Freeman and other feminists are doing an excellent job of responding.

That thread is hilarious.

This one is really special: twitter.com/ricardo_jpl

Why do so many women retweet the patronising men???

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/03/2022 10:00

Like the Death Star Grin

Love it.

Plasmodesmata · 24/03/2022 10:04

So it seems there is a complaint that the board that was specifically sectioned off from the other feminism chat board to talk about this topic, something that was not asked for by the women who actually use it, now talks about this topic?
The threads about this topic all get moved here, and ones about other things get moved out.
And this is the fault of the posters?

OK.

Matthew Zeitlin (@MattZeitlin) Tweeted:
@zackbeauchamp one theory i heard is that the UK actually has more gender-related carveouts in the law, separate female institutions so that it actually comes up more in policy (also mumsnet, i think it might just be mumsnet) https://twitter.com/MattZeitlin/status/1506656680322424833?s=20&t=pnTQEMD5QbYg19kNMblfeg

"Gender-related carveouts" Confused does he mean legal rights for women?

tabbycatstripy · 24/03/2022 10:06

They're so confused by how GC thought is more uniform or better progressed in the UK than it is in the US. It's not that complicated. We have one sovereign government (yes, complicated by devolution) and they have fifty. They're a patchwork blanket.

PermanentTemporary · 24/03/2022 10:08

Hilarious thread. 'Gender-related carveouts in law' is a genius word salad to avoid saying 'sex based rights'.

EdithStourton · 24/03/2022 10:10

I love beardy bros telling me what to think.

I listen sweetly, blink, nod and ignore them.

Linguini · 24/03/2022 10:14

Haha I love it when Mumsnet trends.
Bring 'em here! Sunlight and all.

purpleboy · 24/03/2022 10:16

What 'far right religious groups' even are there in the UK? Oh yes, Jacob Rees Mogg I suppose. Is he on Mumsnet?

I get that there are a few American religious zealots who come over here and get involved in our lawsuits if theres enough publicity - Charlie Gard's parents case was promoted by some of them of course, and yes, Keira Bell's lawyer was an evangelical who would have loved to see Gillick competence removed, even though the successful case itself relied totally on the concept. There are still gay conversion efforts based around some of the wilder shores of British evangelism- always a bit suspicious of Hillsong etc.

But saying that Mumsnet of all places is where those guys hang out - for fuck's sake, I really don't fucking think so.

tabbycatstripy · 24/03/2022 10:19

It's actually embarrassing to see them all railing against the First Amendment. Do they want to be spoon-fed ideas by the state, or arrive at them independently?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 10:19

"A Tweet by senior Vox correspondent Zack Beauchamp has prompted a debate about gender identity discussions on online forums"

Twitter, I love that I'm supposed to know or care who this guy is.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 10:21

Why don't they come here and treat us to some of that razor sharp analysis?

BraveBananaBadge · 24/03/2022 10:21

What a parade of morons. Bloke from Vox? Check. Beard from NYTimes? Check. Willoughby? Kempner? Check.

Telling women what we can and can't talk about, what's allowed to affect our lives. What we can deem important.

Do they ever even for a second think we have different opinions to them for good reason, rather than being brainless, hate-filled crones (nay, erm, 'Nazis') with no agency at all?

These things make me laugh and then they make so so incredibly cross. Good on Hadley for standing up.

BettyFilous · 24/03/2022 10:22

I was listening to Meghan Murphy’s podcast with Jon Kay last night where they discussed how many GC Canadians had no one to talk to about their concerns about gender ideology and felt very isolated. Those Twitter beardbros are doing a grand job of signposting MN. We should get the tea urn going and roll out the welcome mat for new arrivals. 👋 (And boost Bunbury to remind everyone about not feeding the sealions and disruptive children.)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/03/2022 10:22

It's like the Harry Enfield "Know Your Limits" sketch is being unironically used as a training aid.

PronounssheRa · 24/03/2022 10:23

So many men sad that women have a place (and space) to talk.

And they are so fucking righteous they think their mansplaining is a good progressive thing.

tabbycatstripy · 24/03/2022 10:28

I like how on MN, rather than calling people 'pieces of dogshit' or 'binfires' or 'literal Nazis', we say: "This makes me cross."

YawningAngel · 24/03/2022 10:28

There's a podcast called 'It Could Happen Here'. The original series was about how quickly a normal society can slide into totalitarianism.

They've made a second 5 part series, about the War on Trans People Hmm

The second ep is called Terf Island, and is all about mumsnet! The woman explaining how mumsnet is a radicalisation hotbed spreading fascism doesn't seem to have actually visited, to find out what really goes on here. Might be worth a hate listen, if you need an extra bit of energy to get the windows clean or whatever...

WeeBisom · 24/03/2022 10:29

It's absolutely hilarious to hear people say that Mumsnet is a far right recruitment zone, and '4 chan for middle class white women'. Yep, someone had better call Prevent, there's an awful lot of women being radicalised.

Awkwardy · 24/03/2022 10:29

"Gender-related carveouts in law" just means it is illegal in some places in the US to ask 'shall I be mother?' when carving the roast, pouring tea etc

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 24/03/2022 10:29

lol sounding off on twitter but not got the balls to come here & discuss it with us directly

AnnesBrokenSlate · 24/03/2022 10:30

That thread is hilarious! Although also an absolutely shocking indictment on US education and journalism. There's such an insular view of culture, history, feminism and women's rights.
