Love her!

It's so depressing to see the arguments people are putting back towards her on twitter.
And many of them, I think, are genuinely trying to be kind and nice to what they see as a vulnerable minority. They just don't/can't/won't seem to see any bigger issues with it, and think that anyone disagreeing with allowing TW to be treated exactly like women are being bigoted. It's harder to argue with them than with the ones who do appreciate the issues and still want to trample all over women and women's spaces, just because they can. Or because they want to. But the ones who are genuinely trying to be good, inclusive people, it's much harder, because they just won't see/think. They just want everything to be peaceful and happy and kind. They post endless good news stories about heartwarming things, and stick their heads in the sand about what the real world is like, in so many aspects. And it's so hard to argue with them, because they see anyone else as a bigot.

@WestendVBroadway

Another reason for me to dislike JK Rowling!
Continue hating her, More power to JKR
Mushypeasandchipstogo · 12/03/2022 17:55

She is able to express my opinions much better than I ever could, wonderful woman!

LyraSilvertongueBelacqua · 12/03/2022 18:03

I really do hope she knows she has a lot of support amidst the vitriol she receives.

Unsure33 · 12/03/2022 18:04

This is the problem . We are supposed to have free speech but when Starmer puts out a statement like that he is basically saying we disagree with the “ law”

But his statement actually makes no sense . If trans are women why would women need safe spaces .

How on earth do we spread the word that a potential prime minister is NOT listening to 50 % of the population.

And does this mean that all trans have automatic entry to womens prisons/ schools/ refuges/ dormitory’s on school trips ?

More people need to know about this .

Email her office to let her know.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/03/2022 18:06

A Boudicca for our times - I'm feeling all inspired. What a total joy she is.

I also thought of Boudicca, she is glorious.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/03/2022 18:08

The Times have stopped comments under trans articles, but readers are all commenting under the open comments on other articles. KS and Labour are being laughed at.

Oh that's brilliant. Mutiny!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/03/2022 18:11

She may not understand trans women

What is it that you think she doesn't "understand"?

nopuppiesallowed · 12/03/2022 18:11

@itsnotdeep

The young people (and gay men) in my office loathe her. But she's in a fortunate position of being able to visibly and actively not care what they think.

In any case, I think what she's doing is brilliant.

Next time the subject comes up just quietly say "We have to respect people, but we don't have to agree with their views if they are mistaken. Biology is immutable. People are either XX or XY. That is a biological fact."
MyLittlePhonyPony · 12/03/2022 18:14

They just don't/can't/won't seem to see any bigger issues with it, and think that anyone disagreeing with allowing TW to be treated exactly like women are being bigoted.

Interesting as the definition of bigotry is:
obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction; in particular, prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

Which I would say fits the attitude these people have towards those expressing safeguarding concerns or just plain uncomfortable with gender stereotypes being embedded in ideas of 'men and women'.

I'm afraid I can't give a pass to the naive or stupid. Yes they may not understand the implications but they've closed themselves off to discussions about it. That imo is the very essence of bigotry/sexism. Our views are discounted simply due to the nature of our beliefs and our biological sex.

I also just think anyone that mind numbingly stupid(naming no names) has no business anywhere near political, law, education or health policy.

In this country you now need at least a B or C in GCSE science to gain a teaching qualification. Yet people in far more influential positions can tout unscientific rubbish.
What gives.

Anyway, glad JK hasn't been cowed. She really is someone who stands by her principles and I would expect no less of the author of HP.

Lumos indeed.

AuntyFungal · 12/03/2022 18:18

@Iknowitisheresomewhere

I am so fed up with ‘TWAW but I support women only spaces’. It means nothing because that person’s definition of women includes men.

Interviewers are going to have to be very clear. ‘Do you support single sex spaces ie only for biological females’ or ‘given you think TWAW, what is your word for ‘human of the female sex’ (which includes everyone of that sex and excludes everyone not of that sex). Do you support spaces (prisons, hospital wards) exclusively for those people?’

YES

Come on Kier - you’re a smart chap. Explain to me how your changes to the GRC are going to effect me. spoiler - they are

Stop referring to the inhumane nature of the process and start actually telling us what is inhumane about the current pathway.

As I see it, there are provisions under the current Eq Act which companies and organisations are choosing not to enable ie single sex space.

Not ignoring the fucking mess of sports, healthcare, prisons etc…

So, what is different about your GRC and what is going to be the effects of it, in my day to day life.

If TWAW and natal women are women. There are no single SEX spaces.

Currently, TW are different in biology & law (provision for single sex spaces). Do you want to change this?
So currently in law, TW are not women but TW.

& YES to the timid, bland, partisan interviewers. I’m not a fucking idiot. Stop reducing this argument to soundbites and biased pro trans emotional interest stories. Give me some fucking facts for a change. That’s right - engage your brain and your journo training.

Pitch it to the execs, that you’ll get higher viewing figures, if you dared to step out of the rose tinted beige.

SunniDelite · 12/03/2022 18:18

We're not dying on any hill! With JKR to lead and inspire us, we will swarm down into the valley and overwhelm the ideologues with our words and ribbons, our logic, biology, reality and resistance! Who knows a war cry? Insert it here.........! :)

NancyDrawed · 12/03/2022 18:20

@Milomonster

Kellie Jay announced the next few dates on her youtube channel the other night, I'll have a look. She posts the speakers on Youtube if you'd like to see what goes on.

She also went to Speaker's Corner in Nottingham recently and is going to Manchester and I think Brighton in the next few months. I have not been a Hyde Park meeting yet, but Baroness Nicholson has been at the last two gatherings there.

I've just looked at her website.

The next meeting at the Reformer's Tree is March 27th, the following one is April 24th and then Manchester (venue TBC) May 15th.

@Enough4me what articles are the Times comments on? I am so frustrated by them switching off the comments as one of my key outlets for my rage has gone!

FemaleAndLearning · 12/03/2022 18:42

@Lifeinthelastlane

So KS simultaneously believes women are adult females and TWAW. He does not see anything contradictory about this?
I was going to say exactly this. Does he think we are stupid? He is trying to play us but we have our eyes wide open. If we got rid of transwomen are women and just said transwomen are transwomen it would be so much easier.
Igneococcus · 12/03/2022 18:44

Comments are currently happening under the Carol Midgley article, although someone is reporting them it seems,

TheUsualShitshow · 12/03/2022 18:53

@BiggerBoat1

She's awful and needs to shut up. Plenty of people on here lapping up her bullshit though I see!
Yeah all that donating millions of her own money to support children around the world, and this week in Ukraine. Urgh, shut up Jo. Confused

And picnic in the park on Sunday 26 June, Reformes Tree, with a private venue for the evening. I know it will be busy and I don't care if I can't hear anyone as I'll watch it on you tube. I went to the Notts one and it was fab so looking forward to this. Bringing my daughters to London too. I would love it if JK Rowling would come to that one!
Jackiebrambles · 12/03/2022 18:56

Thank you!

On the Times:

When the comments are not allowed, move to the article to the right and start a thread there. Pass it on!

All hail the Queen.

JKR thank you for supporting Women.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 12/03/2022 19:25

@BiggerBoat1

She is small minded.

She may not understand trans women, but does that give her the right to be so completely lacking in empathy?

As someone above said, she is entitled to an opinion. As am I. I see nothing to admire in her.

It's 'small minded' to assert that a woman doesn't have a penis and you can't change sex?
Hasselhoffsheadband · 12/03/2022 19:27

I am just loving all-out-of-fucks JKR. I really hope she is OK. I emailed her office before when she first started tweeting about this, and they replied. I am going to do it again - I really want her to know how much support she has.
