I think Keir Starmer made a signficant error here.
Transwomen are Women is a radical statement; it shifts the meaning of the word 'woman' from sex to gender.
It's what Starmer said next that I have the issue with
He said: 'I believe in safe spaces for women — I'm very clear about those too. I think the 2010 act, the Equality Act, which does provide for safe spaces for women is right. And therefore I'm very straightforward about this.'
If he had added two words he could have bridged the gap between the tensions between sex and gender definitions- he could have acknowledged that women fear sharing particular spaces when vulnerable with people who have a physical advantage due to testosterone. (he could have done even better and considered issues of fairness relating to sporting competitions)
Those two words

Instead, he said something that endorses a gender only view, without giving any consideration to risks or disadvantages that women can encounter because of their biological sex
