Stumbled accross this on twitter. Matt Walsh, an American political commentator is on a chat show and confronts transactivist to define a woman and tells him that he is appropriating womanhood.

Then after being told that he has 'traumatised' the activists... He provides this response!!

Wow. He says sh*t straight.... Haha!

@Datun

What is beneficial about that clip isn't the opinions of some dodgy anti-abortionist bloke, but the complete inability of his fellow males to drum up not just a coherent answer to his question, but any answer at all.

A woman is, er, a woman. It's got all sorts of different meanings, depending on who you are, and what you want at the time.

We're back to constellations and ethereal waftings.

You'd think by now but they would have found some bloody thing to come up with. But no.

And we all know why.

And the absolute beauty of that clip is exposing the ideology for the risible jibber jabber it is.

The focus is now firmly on the people doing the responding, not those doing the asking.

Don't forget 'women' is an 'umbrella term' ...

So literally real women don't exist as it could be a dog, cat, man, Darlick, tree ect..

They 100% know that by screwing up the 'real' meaning of woman - it gives men unfettered access to women spaces, women awards, women sports ect.

ItsCoachBombay · 21/01/2022 16:13

@ScreamingMeMe

So if race is a protected characteristic that you must not appropriate why isn't sex?

And if anyone can be a woman, what is the new definition of woman? And how are women's health care/sports/prisons/spaces effected by this new, for want of a better word free for all managed?

Unfortunately, we've had to file these questions under "They Never Answer".

@ScreaminMeMe but surely if those questions are not answered there's no solution, just a roundabout of confusion and feather spitting. 🤔

I mean I'm in my early 30's. For me woman is biological female and transwoman is what it says on the tin. Is transwomen now an offensive term? 😳

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 16:18

Is transwomen now an offensive term?

It is without a space as they don't like it.

If you imply that they are any different from biological women at all, it is. We are not allowed a word for adult human female people.

Look at the shit Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie got just for saying "women" and "trans women" were different and had different experiences.

turbonerd · 21/01/2022 16:21

Well, yes apparently because TransWomen are Women.
But Women is an «umbrella-term» for all sorts of things depending on how you feel. Except it really, really is not.

But one important thing here is to realise that this is a bipartisan matter, much like environmental protection ought to be.
It is downright essential for a functional democracy and a functioning society that the political divide does not encompass every matter being discussed

ItsCoachBombay · 21/01/2022 17:35

Yeah, I don't get it 😂 so if woman is anyone who feels like a woman without definition of what a woman is, then woman = nothing of value.

How lovely 🤨

nauticant · 21/01/2022 18:06

Ponder on this ItsCoachBombay. Women who are women by virtue of being born into female bodes are told that they must identify themselves as "cis-women" and to insist on rejecting this and simply being women is transphobic.

It is also transphobic to use the term "transwomen" to refer to male people who claim to have a feminine gender identity. It's being argued that to be non-transphobic, they have to be referred to as "women".

Which means that female people are told not to refer to themselves as "women" with the term "women" being reserved exclusively for male people.

This is the very tip of a very large iceberg. It's part of a huge amount of other mad ideas that a decade ago would have been laughed out of any gathering of reasonable people.

Yes and it also means that most women don't identify as women. We either need a new term for 'people formerly known as women' or a term which actually describes people born male who identify with their own perception of what a woman is - aka a trans woman.

If this anti-truth rhetoric continues I may start calling myself a person formerly known as a woman.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 21/01/2022 19:18

Please don't tell me we're resorting to cheering on Matt Freakin' Walsh now!

nauticant · 21/01/2022 19:36

Are you on a different thread to the rest of us?

The point that's been made, repeatedly, is that even if Matt Walsh has some unpleasant views, it doesn't mean that everything he says must be wrong and as a result whenever he says anything, then whatever it is we must adopt an opposing view.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2022 19:50

Please don't tell me we're resorting to cheering on Matt Freakin' Walsh now!

Did you watch his short video linked in the OP? Regardless of anything else it's a tour de force.

WeeBisom · 21/01/2022 20:10

What I find utterly crazy-making about this whole thing is when trans activists actually admit that they don't know what the word 'woman' means, and the best they can do is to say that 'a woman is anyone who identifies as a woman' and the meaning is entirely individual. Now, this is obviously nonsense because it strips the terms 'woman' and 'man' and 'non binary' of any meaning. When one determines that one is a woman, and not a man, HOW is one making that determination? What are they conceiving of when they think of 'woman' and 'man'? But more to the point, why does no one else seem to notice that this is a stupid illogical definition? I once had a friend bellow at me that she 'didn't care' that a definition is meaningless if it is self referential! Are people honestly content with the answer that a 'woman is anyone who says they are a woman' and do they actually understand what it means?

And if a woman is an entirely individual decision, then why are we not allowed to self define a woman as someone with a female body? Why can't that be MY definition, and so it applies to me, but not to you? The problem with this theory is that if everyone's answer is unique then everyone's answer is capable of being exclusionary.

Fieldofgreycorn · 21/01/2022 20:36

For what it’s worth I believe he cares about this issue,

Yes he probably does. In a sort of “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination” type way.

nolongersurprised · 21/01/2022 20:43

I read the TRA Twitter link and it’s NOT FAIR that he was given access to such a large platform because he’s slick and media trained and the trans people had never had to, you know, THINK before.

When Matt Walsh, on the show, accused the transwoman of “appropriating womanhood” and pointed that that being a woman isn’t something that can be “worn” I wondered where he had gone for information. I feel exactly the same.

Maybe it shouldn’t be “Math Walsh, conservative Christian supported by feminists” but, “Matt Walsh, conservative Christian, agrees with gender-critical feminists!”

And who cares, really?

There’s not a single person I agree with everything about.

Apparently “What is a woman?” is a right wing transphobic dog whistle used by patriarchal cishit white men to marginalise and intimidate trans folx and their advocates.

Grin

If we have to forced team I don’t want to be on her side (I know she is she/her because pronouns only bio).

nolongersurprised · 21/01/2022 21:05

Actually, I take it back. Its parody. She identifies as 1/8 Black semitrans demisexual lesbian who dates men.

sacredfeminina · 21/01/2022 21:06

Well im feeling slightly smug my first mumsnet thread has got me a screenshot on twitter by the barmytransarmy.

I listened to the full podcast in which matt walsh discusses his appearance on the show. He does sadly say that his number one priority is truth, over women's safety, and that he was not really bothered about the topic (of women's rights) itself, but it's what the transactivists brought to the table with their untruths, and so he will fight it. He kinda says he would be just as bothered if people started to say a square was a circle... well what do we expect from someome anti-abortion... Maybe he will change his mind on abortion after spending his time wrapping his manly head around the experience of women.

Anyway, his points are still valid: it shows the ridiculoussnes and ultimate weakness of the TRA: they are undermining the rights of half of the world AND telling a complete untruth. Doomed to failure. Its just fucked up that along the way children will be medically abused, women sexually abused, people will lose their jobs and lots and lots of wasted energy and resources of women's rights charity's focused on stupid shit like single sex toilets and not on the stuff they need to be dealing with (like fgm/trafficking etc)...

But i am absolutely certain that this will crumble, and it's going to be this year.

Anne is very funny

nauticant · 21/01/2022 21:07

One problem we face these days is that satire and reality (according to trans activists) are often indistinguishable. If you look at Ann Lesby's (DYSWSDT?) timeline, you can find gems like this:

twitter.com/AnnLesbyPhD/status/1483976423517818883

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2022 21:08

It is a parody

allmywhat · 21/01/2022 21:08

And in the context that one of them draws their livelihood from posing in a bikini, hips thrust to emulate a female model’s pose, the use of the word ‘costume’ may have some relevance

wow, really? I'm almost impressed. That person might be savvier than they seem if they've managed to somehow monetise their appearance. Who's the market? Are they an "influencer" selling woke indulgences to brands?

nolongersurprised · 21/01/2022 21:27

It is a parody

I thought that at first but she’s got the whole look down pat as well. Am following her now

TurquoiseBaubles · 21/01/2022 21:38

@nolongersurprised

How do you know that's a parody? It sounds perfectly reasonable to me Grin
littlbrowndog · 21/01/2022 21:58

It does to me too 🤣🤣🤣

Phobiaphobic · 21/01/2022 22:53

But i am absolutely certain that this will crumble, and it's going to be this year.

Christ, I hope so. There's only so many years of this nonsense you can take before you feel like you're going crazy.

ItsCoachBombay · 21/01/2022 23:43

I've had one or two or four espresso martinis but bare with me.

So people formally referred to as "women" are now cis-women (whatever that means) and transwomen are now women....

Why do I have to have my identity stolen and replaced? 😳 I'm a woman, I was a girl, then a teenage girl and now a woman. I'm 32 I can't be fucked with a new label to be honest, this one's been hard enough to deal with the majority of the time as it is. I feel like I've just got my driver's licence and now someone's asking me to drive a lorry 🤦🏻‍♀️
