Also there is the small matter that the name is trademarked be Warner brothers.

But who knew? I certainly had no idea there were to US Quidditch leagues running around with broomsticks between there legs!

@KimikosNightmare

The last 2 comments make me think this forum's bad reputation isn't sometimes deserved. Blaire White is one of the miniscule number of "Blue Ticks" who has defended JK Rowling on Twitter and YouTube but you can't resist a snide comment.
Mumsnet is not a hive mind.

Yes it was all really unnecessary.

Quidditch sounds very interesting. In the Wizarding world injury is healed with magic.
The IQA rule book includes:
“1.2.3. Gender maximum rule
A. A team may not have more than four players who identify as the same gender in play at the same time.
B. The gender that a player identifies as is considered to be that player’s gender.”

This is a sport where players aim to “knockout” an opponent with the bludger, where mouth guards must be worn, and where actual glasses (spectacles with glass) are prohibited (unless inside protective goggles). What could go wrong?

Quidditch teams sometimes play near where I train for an entirely more conventional team sport. It always causes no small amount of amusement, though running with a piece of PVC pipe jammed in your crotch looks like an accident waiting to happen.

Out of interest I googled the rules and found out it's a full contact sport where you can tackle other players. In an interview with a snitch he described his role as like wrestling and said it was fun to have a sport where he could still be physical now he's too old to play rugby (he looked about 30). I can't imagine a female snitch would have a very successful career.

I've played several mixed-sex team sports and some balance the sex differences much better than others, though all suffer in some aspects. Quidditch looks like a game where there would be a significant sex imbalance and risk of serious injury. It would be interesting to see what the experience is of female players. I imagine the low uptake and very amateur nature of it have mitigated the risk so far to some extent.

@BettyFilous

Snide in your eyes maybe. I agree that Blaire is a rare exception in challenging the prevailing TRA discourse about JKR, but that piece reminded me that some MTF revel in crossing norms and boundaries, motivated by a ‘foible’ we are not allowed to mention on MN. Am I supposed to not mention the elephant in the room if Blaire says the right words? Blaire’s words would have been equally impactful delivered in a t-shirt. #nothankyou
Blaire is in a relationship with a man so I don’t know if that particular ‘foible’ is relevant in this case (I think the psychology behind gay men transitioning is usually not to do with that?)

Anyway, I really like Blaire’s videos.

Blaire White is in a relationship with a man. I'm aware of what you are referring to.Who are you to dictate to anyone what they should wear.

I'm actually struggling to think of anyone in the public realm , apart from say Julie Bindel whom one would expect to, who has so consistently stood up for JKR.

I'm sure Blaire won't be in floods of tears about someone choosing to comment on their push up bra tops. After all, Blaire does like to be noticed. Confused

I'm sure she won't. I'm also sure it wasn't a push up bra she was wearing (what a stupid comment that was) but if you and Betty are happy to fuel the case about just how nasty some posters on here are about trans people, then carry on. It's not a good look.
NotBadConsidering · 26/12/2021 20:19

Who cares? [shrug] I don’t owe Blaire White anything. So Blaire supported JK Rowling? Big deal. Well done, it’s what most common decent people have done. But it’s always worth remembering that whatever Blaire talks about and whatever Blaire’s views, it’s still relevant that Blaire’s idea of what it is to be a woman with an opinion worth sharing on YouTube requires the correct outfit adhering to certain sexist stereotypes.

I don't really care that much about your opinion or what you consider to be a good look or not.
