Also there is the small matter that the name is trademarked be Warner brothers.

But who knew? I certainly had no idea there were to US Quidditch leagues running around with broomsticks between there legs!

@Sasketchewoo

The thing that cheered me up today was that since JKR's tweets on feminism, her followers dropped from 14 million to 13.9. I mean, I'm sure that was the equivalent pain of a mosquito bite, but still. Today it's back at 14m. It shows she has so much support, for all the death threats.

I find the whole idea of quidditch rather endearing. The world has been a frightening place for people under 25 to grow up in with terrorism and climate change and it makes sense some of them have clung to something childish and comforting. It doesn't stop them being idiots in terms of how they're behaving at the moment but there's room for all sorts in this world. Better a quidditch player than being a furry, for example. And if it gets more women running around, being active, given how many women drop out of sport, then even better.

The World was frightening before, too.

We were supposed to expect hydrogen bombs to fall on our heads!

Saw this on Twitter from Giles Coren in the Times:

@MargaritaPie

Well yes that’s exactly what he does. Ties a sock to his shorts and runs around I guess. I imagine that’s what all these elusive ‘husbands hobbies’ are. They’re grass quidditch snitches.

FannyCann · 22/12/2021 02:04

It's all ridiculous obv but one could surely find a more elegant attachment for the ball than a sock? And to the back of their shorts? Pretty sure my dog has something better in his toy collection. Grin
Though he wouldn't say no to a ball in an old sock of course.

Ahh, thats why they won't admit to what the hobby is! 😂

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2021 08:32

Is that the most openly GC GC has ever been?

ChimChimeny · 22/12/2021 08:33

Heard this on sky news on MondAy, the way it was said there was no 'alleged ' transphobic comments, it was fact which pissed me off. then followed by an advert for all the Harry potter movies on sky Hmm

I don't know if he's really 'GC', but he does have an eye for the risible.

There's a photo of the snitch near the bottom (pun not intended!) of this webpage Smile:

@Fannycann
Hilarious letter from Kerr . Certainly she'd a beam of light on my day.

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 23/12/2021 10:11

[quote FannyCann]Thanks for the laugh this morning. 😂

I am minded of the letter from Sir Archibald Clerk Kerr sharing a little light in the dark days of the war.

We mustn't be mean and selfish when a little brightness is shed even by the DM.

This letter has made my whole year!!!!

VikingOnTheFridge · 23/12/2021 22:13

@CallMeNutribullet

Pretty difficult to "distance yourself" when you're playing a pretend sport that literally came from the imagination of the person you want to be distant from
Yeah, honestly, it's really one or the other at this point. You can disassociate yourselves from JK Rowling or you can play a pretend version of a sport she came up with. Not both.
Kanaloa · 23/12/2021 22:56

I mean I don’t know if this would be possible for the snitch but maybe a remote controlled thing? And the ‘snitch’ player could like control it from the sidelines.

To be honest I don’t really think it’s going to look great either way. I wouldn’t judge out loud because they’re not doing anyone any harm but it does seem childish to me. A bit like Disney obsessed adults. Not doing any harm but not my type of people!

Obviously I don’t mean people who enjoy Harry Potter or Disney, but there’s a certain type of person. Wears a Mickey Mouse headband out in public or tells you they’re a hufflepuff when you didn’t ask.

^
I wonder why they don't use a drone.

Peppapigforlife · 24/12/2021 11:41

They could call it The Game That Shall Not Be Named.

Swashbuckled · 24/12/2021 11:42

Ah, just realised why not drones; it’s because they can’t fly.

Christ, this reality/fiction confusion is becoming rather pervasive isn’t it…

Peppapigforlife · 24/12/2021 11:43

Or 'You Know What'

KimikosNightmare · 24/12/2021 16:04

Blaire White on JKR, Quidditch and generally speaking sense.

KimikosNightmare · 24/12/2021 16:04

ScreamingMeMe · 24/12/2021 21:02

Sorry link

Good video. I like Blaire.
BettyFilous · 25/12/2021 08:45

Blaire talks sense but Blaire forgot to put a blouse on. I could have done without 11 minutes of Blaire in a push up bra. 🙄

NotBadConsidering · 25/12/2021 08:55

Most people who spend a lot of money on things want them to be seen, just like there’s no point buying a Louis Vuitton handbag and leaving it at home.

KimikosNightmare · 26/12/2021 01:39

The last 2 comments make me think this forum's bad reputation isn't sometimes deserved. Blaire White is one of the miniscule number of "Blue Ticks" who has defended JK Rowling on Twitter and YouTube but you can't resist a snide comment.

BettyFilous · 26/12/2021 09:03

Snide in your eyes maybe. I agree that Blaire is a rare exception in challenging the prevailing TRA discourse about JKR, but that piece reminded me that some MTF revel in crossing norms and boundaries, motivated by a ‘foible’ we are not allowed to mention on MN. Am I supposed to not mention the elephant in the room if Blaire says the right words? Blaire’s words would have been equally impactful delivered in a t-shirt. #nothankyou
