And just like that - females squeamish at male public masturbation

Has anyone watched the new Sex and the City show yet? I got really annoyed and switched off. Carrie is on a podcast, lots of chat about cis het. Whatevs.

But what really made me furious was when the male podcast guest said he couldn’t think of anywhere where he hadn’t masturbated in public. And Carrie said she hadn’t and they laughed at her like she was such a prude. I suppose it was trying to show how behind the times she is. I suppose she didn’t want to “kink shame” .

When did it become ok for men to masturbate in public?

Yes I know it’s a shit show BTW.

Tried episode three out of morbid curiosity. Jokes about sex with minors. Really feels like they're trying to re-engineer my boundaries in order to normalise paedophilea. Really made me queasy. Why do women collude with this stuff? Surely that 'Che' character or SJP don't want sex with children! Incidentally, I don't think a character has ever given me the rage like that 'Che' whatever has. Absolute rage. Smug condescending c-word.

I can't watch anymore. But I am curious to know whether Charlotte's daughter, sorry, son, will take the drugs and get the surgery.

Kotatsu · 21/12/2021 10:59

There's still little rays of stuff though - Charlotte's friend at the sour dough place having no truck with it, Che (who is insufferable) saying at the end of the special that if she had a penis she'd have got it 5 years early.

I feel like I'm being taunted that there could be a big reveal of people actually being sensible (yes, I know it's SATC, but still)

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 21/12/2021 11:18

Old satc would have done, or at least sought to cover the issue in a less black and white way.
I can't see them doing anything other than total affirmation, otherwise Nixon will think it is a comment on their parenting. Anthony is just there to be 'educated'.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 21/12/2021 11:32

Is Anthony still married to Stanford (I know the actor died, but not how they explained his absence) if they're not together, I imagine that Anthony might fall for a trans man. They like pushing that Anthony is superficial, and needs to overcome it, so that'd fit with past interpretation of the character.
Except obviously not. Because he's gay.

Stanford is still in it but I have read that ep3 was the last one he filmed. Tbh, Anthony and Stanford being married was the first big WTAF moment of the franchise. Anthony and Stanford did not like each other at all. Not in a 'hate but really sexual tension' kind of tv trope way. They just did not hit it off and Anthony was contemptuous of the idea of dating Stanford. And the both made it clear to Carrie and Charlotte that just because they were both gay and single didn't mean they would be attracted to each other or even have any interest in being friends.

Then came the movies, and what do you know. They are in love and getting married. With Liza Minelli, natch! I get actually really angry thinking about it.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 21/12/2021 12:37

Yes, Stanford and Anthony would never have got together.
But then there are very few characters in satc that ended up in relationships I would consider fulfilling and healthy.
From what I recall Stanford's only other relationship was with Marcus the male model, who was seen as a power play and generally ridiculed by the other characters.
Steve and Miranda were incompatible in so many ways and I hated how they justified his cheating by saying she'd let herself go.
Carrie and Big, just awful. Aiden was nice, but put up with way too much from Carrie.
Trey, clueless but not uncaring. Steamrollered into marriage by Charlotte and then his ed made to seem like her fault.
Samantha and Richard, obviously toxic. Samantha and Maria and Smith had a sell by date because she wouldn't let herself be monogamous after that. Which was a bit of a shame as the character stopped growing.
But at least she didn't go backwards like Carrie and co.

Just been thinking about the Chris Noth thing with several women coming out of the woodwork and calling him a predator. I believe them and one of the women talks about how he was notorious for it when she worked in a bar he owned and also on some sets. Basically I don’t think it’s the sort of thing that would go unnoticed by his co-stars this whole time. No doubt it was an open secret like Harvey Weinstein. I’m just wondering about SJP, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis releasing that statement. I find it quite hard to believe that they had no inkling of the rumours yet SJP as a producer obviously went on working with him but then releases this when she realises that standing by him isn’t going to help her image. I may be being overly cynical about it all but it bothers me.

That woke bingo is a bit shit. There has only been 3 episodes on and there are 25 'bingo' squares on it. Its just a bitesize breakdown of each episode really. You could do that with anything.

Whilst I will admit, it's not great and some parts are problematic, I do find it watchable.

I actually find this very funny!
GCAndProud · 23/12/2021 08:04

I find it funny too. So so true.

SantaClawsServiette · 24/12/2021 00:28

Is it just me, or is casual pot smoking more common on tv than it was? What is it supposed to mean?

I find it funny that smoking cigarettes is out but weed is cool.

EachandEveryone · 24/12/2021 13:05

Well carrie is back in the ciggies now and Im kind of glad as it reminds me of when it was good. I wonder if shes a smoker in real life it looked so realistic 😃

EachandEveryone · 30/12/2021 22:40

It was just a cringefest in Carries apartment tonight. No one does that when their friend is sick in bed! I thought Harry and Charlotte where very good though.

Sorry to revive an old(ish) thread but this made me laugh and all I know about the show is what I've read here

Episode 1 parody with Jimmie Fowlie
