[quote Ereshkigalangcleg]And that piece you link to is disgusting. I don’t know who those women were but I’m about to join them.

The fabulous Man Friday. Headed by Amy Desir and Hannah Clarke, both former MNers.

Ah, great article Ereshkigalangcleg. I miss Man Friday. They would give Zara a bloody run for their money

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/12/2021 09:39

They would, Datun!

It might have been Smellys work that was dumped here by Smelly for the clicks. Either way, it was a crap reading experience, especially from someone supposedly doing a PhD.

Glad I didn't click on it. I don't know why ploppers think anyone should give them the time of day, to be honest. If you can't actually engage, it says everything about your argument.
EricCartmansUnderpants · 07/12/2021 10:09

We live and learn. I won't give these people the clicks next time.

averylongtimeago · 07/12/2021 10:20

ManFriday - the Facebook page is still there: @ManFridayUK

Random acts of manliness (on a Friday).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/12/2021 10:27

Cheers for the remembrances of Man Friday socks, hopefully it may inspire others!

Joining the thread late, but I would genuinely like one of the cool kids to explain to me the following:

If the "frightened transwoman" was trying to access the women's changing rooms because genuinely and legitimately afraid of what might befall them in the men's at the hands of unknown males, why are women not allowed to be afraid of what might befall them in the women's at the hands of unknown males?

KittenKong · 07/12/2021 11:47

I think the counter argument goes: ‘Because because because, no you shut up bigot!’

FetchezLaVache · 07/12/2021 11:48

Ah, thanks, @KittenKong! I consider myself educated.

Artichokeleaves · 07/12/2021 11:52

Fascinating isn't it?

Earlier on a poster was explaining that because they had got over their explained fear and trauma, every other female should be expected to do the same and be fine with mixed spaces as she was, fear and distress was silly, unjustifiable weakness and failure that would not be tolerated.

A frightened and distressed male though?

Oh the horrors!!!!!! No suggestion at all that they should get over anything at all. So yes, just plain unjustifiable sexism and male supremacism that sees female as a subordinate type of human. You have to be quite an interesting type of person to wish to stand behind that kind of prejudiced thinking while talking about 'inclusion'.

AmIgoinghomeforXmas · 07/12/2021 11:53

I believe it goes something like,
" these men are actually women because they say so. You are being a transphobic bigot by reacting to them differently to any other women. Educate yourself"

KittenKong · 07/12/2021 11:54

No sorry but I’m sure it’s ‘bla bla bla Transphobe bla bla bigot bla bla educate bla’

Such a shame that a Friend is so misguided. My experience of the Society has been that its members are able to think -- and that they are in general opposed to people oppressing others.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/12/2021 12:04

I hope MNHQ delete the stinky post.

The mention of the fabulous Man Fridays reminded me that the Mail provided some excellent coverage of the protests and the GC position way back then (three and a half years ago) when no other mainstream would go there

Man Friday are wonderful. More power to their elbows.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/12/2021 12:07

Incidentally, as a scholar that lady needs to learn a simple fact: no written work is considered seriously without a date, and I don't mean "Jul 12"; it needs to have a year on it. I do appreciate that as a PhD scholar she is trying to get educated, but she has a way to go.

Rank misogyny. I think that just about covers it.
23MinutesfromTuIseHill · 07/12/2021 12:55

'Guttural' doesn't mean what that pink-haired person thinks it does. That one leapt out at me. CBA to read the whole thing, but I expect there are other misapprehensions in there.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/12/2021 13:29

What is most extraordinary about that essay is that the author says "When children’s author J. K. Rowling accused the trans rights movement of ‘offering cover to [sexual] predators’ in a June 2020 article" but then in her (scholarly) footnotes gives a link to the complete article, which is so clearly not bigoted etc that anyone who bothers to read as opposed to just assuming they already know all about it must surely notice what it actually has to say.

The word she has misused in her essay is "accused". JK Rowling pointed out what could happen as a result of a particular thing; she accused nobody apart perhaps from predators. Surely the nice Quaker student doesn't approve of predators, does she? The word sexual there is her own, since JKR didn't use it in that passage; that is in itself poor scholarship even if in square brackets.

And yes, I can only manage guttural in speech, not in writing.

I’d like to that think Pat Archer would be suitably Terven.

I think/hope they may have missed the boat on that; it's all going to stop being trendy fairly soon, I expect, like hula-hoops and French knitting/skipping. Also, they have already had Ruairi coming out as non-binary, or was it bi? Can't remember, not sure how much difference it makes to anyone not planning to share a bed with him. So they don't need to do any more about it.
BoreOfWhabylon · 07/12/2021 18:20

Hope you're right Asking.
