Does anyone know what this means in terms of his future tweeting/comments?

AnkleDeep · 30/11/2021 20:10

Happy to read some good news after a tiring day

Aposterhasnoname · 30/11/2021 20:23

Unlike some I mention, I have no wish to see someone lose their job over their views. However, I hope the (disgraced) dr will learn a lesson from this, a challenging, yet important and unforgettable lesson.

JellySaurus · 30/11/2021 20:26

What a mess of mixed messages!

In relation him blasting a female rival as 'a venomous transphobic bigot', it said there was no evidence of any personal offence having been taken.
It was therefore not satisfied the tweet was 'objectively offensive'.

So if you behave in a mature way and don't rise to the offensive bait, then it wasn't offensive.

But if you do respond, and ask the bully to stop, then the bully's behaviour is not bullying.

'The tribunal considered Person E's request for him to stop tweeting was somewhat contradictory and paradoxical,' said its ruling.
'Both sides appeared to be intent on provoking each other…the tribunal was not satisfied on the balance of probabilities that Dr Harrop's subjective intent was to intimidate Person E.

Summary: you been a naughty boy (but only a bit naughty)

@Cwenthryth

Good.

28 days seems laughable, but what does it mean that “he may not be able to return immediately after the period of suspension”….I seem to remember from an earlier thread that suspended doctors have to prove to a panel that they have addressed the issues of concern before they can return? Does that apply here?

I think, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, that:

When a GP is suspended from the medical register, they are also de facto removed from the national list of GPs. (The "national performers' list".)

After 28 days, Harrop will be restored to the register automatically, if I've read the judgement right - but interestingly that's not the case for the national GP list. He'll have to re-apply, and that can take many months.

That's a bit of a bummer for a GP.

His suspension period will be unpaid, I believe. He'll possibly also have issues with his professional insurance(s).

BlowDryRat · 30/11/2021 20:42

Good. Awful man.

Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

RevolutionaryBiscuitsOfItaly · 30/11/2021 20:54

@SpindlesWinterWhorl yes, you're right. Legally a GP must be removed from the performers list when their GMC registration is suspended, and they have to apply to go back on the list so it's not automatic and can take some time. The MPTS took this into account when deciding how long they should set the period of suspension. They do have to take the doctor’s circumstances into account, not just decide on a sanction that could apply to anyone.

Bellendejour · 30/11/2021 20:54

Hurrah!!!!
Was obvs hoping for longer but it’s still a massive win as he will have to STFU foreeeeevvveeeer Grin

Thanks for confirming and clarifying.

I do wonder under what circumstances the Performers' List bods might be loathe to reinstate a GP immediately? Can they set conditions, eg additional mentoring around the GPs' social media code of conduct, for example?

I think what everyone wants most of all is for AH to calm the fuck down.

Mincepiepoptarts · 30/11/2021 21:06

Can he go back to his current - well current until today - role at the GP surgery after his suspension is up? Or has he lost his job too? Presumably if so he will struggle to find a new one - who would employ someone like that? There can’t be such a shortage of GPs that anyone would be desperate enough to take him on.

LegoNinjago · 30/11/2021 21:15

Awful little mysoginist

They could keep him on as a HCP just not a GP. This would be lower salary I think. And he would remain a HCP until hes back on the performers list if that'll happen. His "insurance"* premiums will increase.
  • it's not quite insurance but it's a simpler term.

He should be struck off for good. The GMC should be ashamed that this is how one of their members behaves. It shows appalling judgement.

Blooeyes · 30/11/2021 21:47

I just watched his interview with Posie Parker that was linked on another thread. I've not come across him before so it was excellent timing to watch that awful interview where his hatred and misogyny was so palpable to then immediately find out he's been suspended.

Can you imagine going to a GP like him for "women's issues"?

Motorina · 30/11/2021 21:48

@SpindlesWinterWhorl yes exactly

@Cwenthryth no, not in this case, as the panel did not order a review before the end of the suspension.

However, this will follow him all his career, will likely cost him tens of thousands in additional indemnity payments, and silences him all the time he's practicing if he wants to keep working.

It's a robust outcome.

madmomma · 30/11/2021 21:53

To little too late, but good.

FreeBritnee · 30/11/2021 21:54

@chilling19

Just think - he now has to shut up for the rest of his career. So, although only 28 days, it is really a life sentence if he wants to keep practising. I am hoping that he finally realises he has been led on by the bullies who have used him unmercifully and who, if he does get the boot for not keeping his mouth shut in future, will throw him under the bus without a backward glance. Not holding my breath though.
👌
RepentMotherfucker · 30/11/2021 21:59

So what about his promising media career ?

I thought he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his idol (and fellow child rape apologist) Dr Jessen?

Oh...wait...

ufucoffee · 30/11/2021 22:08

[quote ScreamingMeMe]Tribunal Tweets:

"So Dr Adrian Harrop is suspended for 28 days unless he decides to appeal. If he does appeal, he can practice until the outcome of that appeal is known"

"And I can confirm that Adrian Harrop is not appealing.

The team will post the decision here when we receive the copy by email.

So this is
@StoatlyL signing off for the
@tribunaltweets volunteer reporting collective until we return for Stage two of the Webberley Tribunal."

I think we all agree that he's very unappealing

Bobbingtons · 30/11/2021 22:14

Can't believe he's become a victim of cancel culture for expressing his beliefs which are a protected characteristic!
