Am I the only person to feel sorry for the Doctor? All the bluster, the put-downs, the intimidation, the lies, the insults, the desperate need to be seen, to be the voice of a cause. It's all so... tragic. Don't get me wrong, I want him to be treated fairly, and to get what he deserves.

But it does feel like all this is his way of compensating for something.

He’s not a teenager. He’s a grown ass adult who should know better. And from his other tweets (gloating and councelling others in a similar position to grovel and play sorry) it would seem that he does know better but thinks he is smarter than the average bear, so can get away with it.

@Awkwardy nope. I always feel sorry for the registrant. Even (especially?) the ones I've struck off. It's such a bloody awful position to be in, and potentially the end of years of dedication and hard work.

Doesn't mean I approve of what they've been found to have done. Doesn't mean that sanctions shouldn't happen. But it's still a truly terrible thing to happen to anyone.

Like a lot of bullies and self-righteous rigid thinkers, I think he is covering for a fragile ego. But nothing justifies his behaviour to the witnesses and other women.

No I don't think you are alone in feeling this way.

"Tragic" sums it up pretty well for me.

I don't want him to be erased from the medical register.

What I do want to see is a decision that means he has to address whatever underlying issues drive his need for validation; through being in the spotlight/gaining a following and treating people as collateral damage in the process.

I think suspension is more likely to achieve this than erasure, because the former has a chance of making sincerely reflect on his poor behaviour, where as the latter is more likely to escalate it if he has nothing left to lose.

I've just read the Metro article. Halfway through it calls him Harriet

I struggle to feel sympathy for Harrop given his SM activity towards women and what was revealed in this MN thread from 2019.

I don't, personally, but I am glad to see that others do.

I have not a shred of sympathy for him, only for his victims.

And his patients who have been unfortunate enough to read his vitriol online.

And his colleagues and line manager who must be desperate to get rid of him and be free to concentrate on their demanding job without all this drama.

I think the medical profession will be better off without him.

Hope he get suspended and ends up living on Universal Credit.. he won't though, he'll have some chum somewhere and end up better off than before.

I feel much more sorry for his victims.

I cannot remember - could he be ordered to have a psychiatric evaluation?

I think his interest in medicine is about personal status and control of others rather than a genuine desire to heal. The fascination with the dead makes me think he’d be better suited to pathology or in a research role rather than something directly patient facing.

AH heard the full decision about 30 minutes ago in a private session. He is now meeting with his legal team to discuss further and for the tribunal to decide on whether any sanction should be imposed. And if so, what it should be.
