Nobody knows why there are women and there are men?

According to Ellie Mae O'Hagan of the CLASS think tank:

"I don't know why some people are women and some people are men, nobody on this panel does"

Crikey, I know things are bad, but I didn't know we had reached Defcon 1 already.

Did we really just get treated to a photo of an electron microscope fuse box?

Did that truly just happen?

I thought this thread couldn’t get any more surreal after the OP!

Hey ladies, check out my electron microscope! It’s super complicated technology the like of which you could never hope to understand.

Nobody knows why there are women and there are men?

Men and Women - in his book the selfish gene Richard Dawkins suggests that if a generation produces the following generation at a numerical number higher than the number that get to adulthood and produce the following generation then evolution is taking place - it isn't altruistic but the continuation of the species is hard coded in our genes - as we have been back and fourth on XX - XY one thing is certain and that it is: every time a new person arrives or life is strated at fertilisation some are men and some a women as it is basically a 50-50 chance.

I'm still baffled by the fuse box pic.
It's going to haunt my dreams tonight.

@Grumpyosaurus

I'm still baffled by the fuse box pic. It's going to haunt my dreams tonight.
I just love the assumption that a bunch of mummies aren’t going to recognise a fuse box. I’m betting his mum is the only person in the house who knows where the bloody thing even is.

Right here goes!

'A scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is a type of microscope used for imaging surfaces at the atomic level. Its development in 1981 earned its inventors, Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer, then at IBM Zürich, the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1986.[1][2][3] STM senses the surface by using an extremely sharp conducting tip that can distinguish features smaller than 0.1 nm with a 0.01 nm (10 pm) depth resolution.[4] This means that individual atoms can routinely be imaged and manipulated. Most microscopes are built for use in ultra-high vacuum at temperatures approaching zero kelvin, but variants exist for studies in air, water and other environments'.

Therefore if a male says they're a woman then they are. Results from the microscope clearly show that a stick person on one door and a stick person WITH A SKIRT on another door signal internal gender ID and always have.

Further it shows that any male who states a female gender ID have grown up a girl and are a woman then that's that. Zooming in closer revealed that transmen naturally are and always have been men/ boys and so women should be wary of them, they should be in male prisons, and they enjoy higher wages pensions and are usually right, their views being based on logic rather than irrational emotionalism.

A close analysis of the data revealed that anyone who thinks sex is important. Anyone meaning anyone female obviously. Has a genetic makeup clearly identified as a mix of ghengis Kahn, Pol pot, mau, Hitler and the pharoah who ordered all the baby boys to be killed in the Bible. Also present but not to such a large an extent, Satan, medusa, the 3 witches in Greek mythology, Darth Vader before he went good, and warthogs.

The conclusion then is scientifically proven to be-

Men are what men say they are
Women are what men say they are
Women who don't agree with what men say are literally the biggest threat to the planet, milky way, galaxy and universe than anything else.

ArabellaScott · 18/11/2021 23:35

@dyslek

Sex dimorphism is the best way evolution found to mix genes. Genes need to be mixed to counter the evolutionary arms race with pathogens.

Your welcome Elle (and I never even went to uni).

This woman is thick as mince Grin

But where are we racing TO?!?!
CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:37

YY the selfish gene. Not read it. Wasn't there a TV series or something?

(Dawkins is a twat. Just felt the need to say that!).

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:39

Wtf is that fuse box pic about?!

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:42

I'm not sure about that first bit though.

RobotValkyrie · 18/11/2021 23:44

I think SCR0071 was trying to hint at the concept of recombination:
during meiosis (= gamete formation), within the nucleus of a diploid cell, the two chromosomes within each pair (all 23 of them) briefly cross their DNA strands, generating a new (subtly different, because of the DNA swap) chromosome pair. This new pair then gets split up between two haploid gametes (haploid = single chromosomes = half-genome; diploid = pair of chromosomes = full genome)

But I think they misunderstood and got the timing wrong. Meiosis doesn't happen at conception.
By the time a male (sperm) and a female (ovum) gamete eventually meet and combine, they already only have one chromosome each. Gametes are haploid. Meiosis happened ages ago. No recombination here, just one chromosome from mum (= a mix of granny's and granpa's) and one from dad (= a mix of the other grandparent's), for each pair. These pairs of chromosomes form the genotype of the new individual, and get expressed as phenotype. The genotype is fixed for life at the time of conception.
Eventually, the newly conceived organism will form unique gametes of its own, but the recombination will not affect its own genotype or phenotype, only their (potential) children's.

Not sure what's the point of all that was, by the way. Sex is still very much real!

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:45

' - in his book the selfish gene Richard Dawkins suggests that if a generation produces the following generation at a numerical number higher than the number that get to adulthood and produce the following generation then evolution is taking place'

Could do with an explanation of this in a bit more depth.

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:55

I mean doesn't that mean that all countries with a replacement value less than 2 are not evolving and all countries which are ravaged by disease war etc are?

Have I read that right?

Evolution is really really slow so the babies born > the adults getting to adulthood would have to go on for generations upon generations... ?

And how does any of this tie into the op about no one knows what a woman or a man is?

RobotValkyrie · 18/11/2021 23:57

"If a generation produces the following generation at a numerical number higher than the number that get to adulthood and produce the following generation"

Yeah, I'd be curious to know in which circumstances that number could be smaller.

SCR0071 · 19/11/2021 00:01

The concept of natural selection. Generation one has x children - some of those will not live to make it into adulthood - some will be infertile- some same sex oriented and a few too fucking stupid to go on to have children of there own. So the number of a generation's children when higher than the number of those children that will produce the next generation promotes that the evolutionary theory of natural selection is taking place
those with the genes best suited to be successful in their environment are the ones that pass those genes on.

SCR0071 · 19/11/2021 00:08

You are right that positive mutations take a few generations- the original point was this: if evolution is happening it is not altruistic it is selective - but the continuation of the species is hard coded in our genes if this is the case then men are men and women women on a 50-50 basis 2:4

CheeseMmmm · 19/11/2021 00:09

' a few too fucking stupid to go on to have children of there own'

Is that Dawkins view or your own?

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2021 00:17

This being the feminism board of a parenting website must be why we're so fucking clever compared to O'Hagan and her panel I guess.Grin

RobotValkyrie · 19/11/2021 00:17

I'm reading it as:
n1 = number of offsprings of the current generation ("a generation produces the following generation")
n2 = number of offprings of the current generation that do mature and reproduce ("number that get to adulthood and produce the following generation")

If (n1 > n2), evolution occurs... Well, duh, it's not like n2 could be greater than n1?
As for n1 = n2, sounds very unlikely. Accidents do happen. Doesn't mean it's always a case of "survival of the fittest", mind you, selective pressure can also be sheer bad luck.
But even if n1 = n2, each new generation is unique due to recombination, further genetic mixing at conception, random mutations... That's still evolution, you don't need selective pressure for evolution to manifest.

In other words: what are you on about, mate?

CheeseMmmm · 19/11/2021 00:19

What point is trying to be proved here?

I'm not entirely sure.

borntobequiet · 19/11/2021 05:32

some are men and some a women as it is basically a 50-50 chance.

Well I never. The revelations on this thread come thick and fast.

borntobequiet · 19/11/2021 05:34

a few too fucking stupid to go on to have children of there own

Or to spell.

DogDaysNeverEnd · 19/11/2021 06:14

I feel like the phrase "are you on glue?" could be relevant to both the original comment and subsequent discussion.

That or "what do you mean?", which would be more polite I guess.

BloodinGutters · 19/11/2021 06:32

@borntobequiet

a few too fucking stupid to go on to have children of there own

Or to spell.

That would be grammatical error, but very valid point!
BloodinGutters · 19/11/2021 06:33
  • as in wrong form of the word their.
JulesJules · 19/11/2021 06:39

This thread is gold and yes, MN's favourite phrase 'Are you on glue' is the most apt response to all this.
