Nobody knows why there are women and there are men?

According to Ellie Mae O'Hagan of the CLASS think tank:

"I don't know why some people are women and some people are men, nobody on this panel does"

Crikey, I know things are bad, but I didn't know we had reached Defcon 1 already.

@SCR0071

Computer simulation- for HIV-1 a hexameric bundle of six Gags was generated following the electron microscopy(EM) dir reconstruction
Just so we’re all up to date, can you remind me how an electron microscope works…? From first principles would be really good!
ErrolTheDragon · 18/11/2021 22:15

Oh, ok, I've Googled it. Cool.

SCR0071 · 18/11/2021 22:19

I don't know what you are expecting...

I think our visitor has been Googling too. Unless he can confirm definitely that he is either of Gary S. Ayton or Gregory A. Voth, I think they should know that he’s been copying and pasting from their paper “Multiscale Computer Simulation of the Immature HIV-1 Virion”.

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 22:21

Ahaha nice fuse box! Grin

Now you can go back to finishing your homework, dear.

dyslek · 18/11/2021 22:23

You just dont understand the higher plane of though @SCR0071 is on.

Also, the first pic Im prity sure is my fuse box?

How do you know these so called scientists did not plagerise SCR007? huh

BloodinGutters · 18/11/2021 22:24

@TeamRex

Would any lovely person like to give an ignorant layperson the first clue about what the argument is here?

I would if I could. SCR0071 seems to be random phrase generator using words from a biology book.

RANDOM PHRASE GENERATOR is my new favourite saying. Thanks!!
dyslek · 18/11/2021 22:26

Nothing, NOTHING, will ever replace 'fuck me, he's as thick as mince' for me.

PlanDeRaccordement · 18/11/2021 22:28

I don't know why some people are women and some people are men, nobody on this panel does"

Surely this is a philosophy or religion question? We know how some humans are male and some are female...genetics/biology...and that our dimorphism then results in the social differentiation between man and woman..

But as for why do men and women exist...that’s in the realm of why are we here? Why does the universe exist? Why are we self aware? Why do have of us have sausages the other half have not?

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 22:29

I hope our visitor pays more attention in their next PSHE lesson on sexual reproduction than they clearly have done so far…

dyslek · 18/11/2021 22:31

No, its evolutionary biology. The Why is to do with the evolutionary arms race between organism and pathogen, its to do with disease. Organisms that can mix their genes are more resistant to disease.

Technically thats the why.

BloodinGutters · 18/11/2021 22:33

And it explains gender ideology rhetoric perfectly.

Someone at stonewall head quarters cut all the words and parts of words they liked out of the dictionary and put them through a RANDOM PHRASE GENERATOR and out came gender ideology.

BloodinGutters · 18/11/2021 22:35

So caninehumans have something to sniff&chomp.

Obvs.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/11/2021 22:37

I'm not sure what the graphics on that post are supposed to depict but it's always nice to unexpectedly come across some cool structures.

Here's a nice six helix bundle https://www.rcsb.org/structure/7ASL

I'm thinking I should divert a thread on the coronavirus board with a random discussion of antibody modelling.Grin

dyslek · 18/11/2021 22:42

Go for it, we will all back you up.

Well not me, Im off to bed. But better people will.

Peace.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/11/2021 22:44

Genetic mixing helps avoid a disadvantageous mutation from taking over a population, which you'd get with all the offspring of an organism with such a mutation, that reproduces asexually. Whereas with sexual reproduction you get a different version of that gene from the other parent, so a chance of the viable / better one being expressed. (Also why inbreeding is not a great idea).

It also helps spread beneficial mutations through a population, because there's more mixing going on.

You can view that as good for the population, the species, or for the other genes that co-exist within those.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/11/2021 22:45

So why men and women? Because survival and rapid adaptation.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/11/2021 22:51

Species that reproduce asexually tend to be very specialist. Limited ability to adapt to new or changing environments.

lottiegarbanzo · 18/11/2021 22:54

I imagine she probably means 'we don't know why some people have floaty gruff man souls and some have floaty lovely woman ones'. To which my response would be 'do they?'

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 22:55

From the perspective that TWAW. And a woman is anyone who says so. The answer no one knows is the only possible answer.

The fact it's going to be wtf to pretty much much the whole population is beside the point.

Does this person post about women/ girls in X country having a bad time? Or men/ boys?

If so then that is totally contradictory.

Everyone who posts on these issues with a TWAW pov uses women/ girls to mean sex when they feel like it. Taliban, rape, everything.

Anyway. Was the load of random long posts earlier meant to show that sex is more complicated than m/f, on a spectrum, impossible to determine... Etc?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/11/2021 22:57

Sometimes I set year 9 some Biology homework, they go off and Google, copy paste the first thing they see and hand it in.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/11/2021 22:59

Was the load of random long posts earlier meant to show that sex is more complicated than m/f, on a spectrum, impossible to determine... Etc?

No, I don't think so - I've actually no idea what the point was but I personally enjoyed the endpoint Grin

I think I liked the picture of a fuse box best.
MiladyBerserko · 18/11/2021 23:05

Fuck sake. We are supposed to answer shit like this while the planet burns.

CheeseMmmm · 18/11/2021 23:10

'Just so we’re all up to date, can you remind me how an electron microscope works…? From first principles would be really good!'

I used to be able to! And I broke one once. A bit. That was electron scanning tunneling. Decades ago...

Does that mean I can have a go at explaining why gender > sex and sex has no relevance etc? Happy to have a go!
