Over 900 companies? Has that gone up?

nauticant · 10/11/2021 13:19

I so wish Evan Davis was going to be presenting the PM programme later to report this news but I think he might currently be on a break.

Chickenyhead · 10/11/2021 13:20

Excellent news that they are coming out of both! They had intended to stay in the Index.

Really hopeful that they will play an active role, in stopping the destruction of women’s rights, in England as a minimum.

SocialConnection · 10/11/2021 13:20

Love the use of 'however ...'

Speaks volumes about how much thinking and conversation must have been going on behind the scenes at the Beeb.

Especially after the reaction against the article about lesbians being targeted by trans women.

OldCrone · 10/11/2021 13:21

@BloodinGutters

Thank fuck!!

Just waiting for d of e to announce the same.

The DfE give a lot of money to Stonewall - nearly £300,000 in 2019.

The BBC announces it is leaving Stonewall
loislovesstewie · 10/11/2021 13:21

Hoo flipping ray!!

viques · 10/11/2021 13:22

Wow! Yay! Whoopee! Caramba! Yeehah! YesYesYes!

Other expressions of delight and surprise are available.

MamDancer · 10/11/2021 13:23

Hoorah!

ArabellaScott · 10/11/2021 13:23

Oh, my. Smile

OvaHere · 10/11/2021 13:24

Good. About time.

BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 13:24

@OldCrone

Yep I know.

But the telegraph reported they were thinking about leaving and that the new education minister was alive to the problems with stonewall. Ofsted have already left. Hopefully next will be d of e. And then the next review of pshe guidance (due in a yr & half I think) will be much clearer and stop schools being confused over what they should be teaching (because so many are still….)

CailleachO · 10/11/2021 13:25

Huzzah! I hope though more common ground can be found. It's a shame they are such an aggressive awful group as LBGT do need their issues addressed.

LGB Alliance are a great group.

Maybe trans people who don’t support gender ideology or want to take away women’s should start their own group. I’m not entirely sure it’s needed though, I can’t imagine how being treated as a human being deserving of life without discrimination but still acknowledging their biological sex needs are those of their biological sex requires a specific group. But if they feel it does they can form their own non sw group easy enough.

HereticFanjo · 10/11/2021 13:31

About fucking time. They're probably shitting themselves at how badly they have failed the public on this and that their impartiality was shown so clearly to be non-existent until late in the day. Well done Nolan and Co.

yoshiblue · 10/11/2021 13:34

I am delighted!

FindTheTruth · 10/11/2021 13:35

Fantastic that they've properly left, by leaving the workplace equality index WEI too, unlike other organisations. The WEI IS the scheme.

viques · 10/11/2021 13:35

This is true, and the good work that Stonewall has done in the past shouldn’t be forgotten, but frankly they have only themselves to blame for their current dire reputation because they allowed themselves to be hijacked.

The really sad thing is that other organisations who signed up to the Stonewall creed have lost supporters because of it, I have been a member of Amnesty for many years , have taken an active part in many of their campaigns including the amazing Violence Against Women campaign , but have cancelled my membership in protest at the way they are ignoring women’s rights in favour of a few loud shouty people.

viques · 10/11/2021 13:37

Sorry, that was in response to @CalleachO.

Ratherly · 10/11/2021 13:38

Excellent news!

Letterasaurus · 10/11/2021 13:38

Excellent news.

jhuizinga · 10/11/2021 13:39

Fantastic news! Ultimately, I think it's down to Tim Davies' new broom which allowed the Nolan podcast to be made and broadcast. I'd almost completely given up on BBC output but feel there's been a clear and welcome change of direction recently.

northstars · 10/11/2021 13:39

Excellent!!! Grin

This bit is interesting “

“Inclusion matters. We depend on work for our livelihoods. Many spend more time at work than anywhere else. LGBTQ+ people deserve to feel safe and respected at work, and the human impact of these attacks can’t be underestimated. we depend on work for our livelihoods”

Oh, like Kathleen Stock and Jo Phoenix and Maya Forstater then?

Igmum · 10/11/2021 13:43

Thank goodness. One more positive step here Thanks

AgnesNaismith · 10/11/2021 13:44

Brill - wish my company would…they’re still on sending out lists of the different genders and we’ve just been asked to refer to people in gender neutral terms
