That’s a good statement from the BBC. Before reading the petulant Stonewall response I was thinking it was good that they left the door open to working with Stonewall in the future. Like many LGB people I would love to see them getting refocused and back to the great organisation they once were.

CruellaDeVilla · 10/11/2021 13:45

And unintentional irony here:

“Our work continues until the world we imagine is the world we live in”

Highwind · 10/11/2021 13:46

Like rats fleeing a sinking ship.

PronounssheRa · 10/11/2021 13:46

However, over time our participation in the Programme has led some to question whether the BBC can be impartial when reporting on public policy debates where Stonewall is taking an active role.

This is just self evident. If you are a member of a scheme that demands you act in a certain way to gain points or be denounced if you don't act in a way they approve you can never be impartial.

I'm pleased the BBC has left but also sad that stonewall once a force for good has become what it is now

SapphosRock · 10/11/2021 13:47

Omg!!! Thank you and well done Stephan Nolan 👏 👏 👏

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 10/11/2021 13:48

Massive, massive news

Gottasinggottadance · 10/11/2021 13:51

This is fantastic news!

HoardingFloralBuntingInACervix · 10/11/2021 13:52
This one hurts them. Here's their response. They haven't commented on any other incidents of organisations pulling out. Self inflicted

www.stonewall.org.uk/about-us/news/stonewall-statement-bbc-leaving-diversity-champions-programme
In which Stonewall say this:

Inclusion matters. We depend on work for our livelihoods. Many spend more time at work than anywhere else. LGBTQ+ people deserve to feel safe and respected at work, and the human impact of these attacks can’t be underestimated.

This will be why, as a lesbian in a Stonewalled organization, I am afraid to speak in certain work environments where the BBC article about lesbians being coerced by TW was discussed with the Stonewall line of 'liars, not significant, lesbians have penises too'? Where my complaints to D&I team members are ignored while they fawn over non-binary ID males? Where any slight dissent about Stonewall policies is pounced on, and pejorative terms about women and sexual boasts are waved through as long as it's couched in 'Inclusive, LGBTQ+' terms?

Pull the fucking other one, you lying bullies.

LilithRises · 10/11/2021 13:52

How can they (Stonewall) support LGB people when they say homosexuality is same gender attraction? I honestly don't get it

secular111 · 10/11/2021 13:54

Misrepresenting the law does leave Stonewall Diversity Champions vulnerable to legal actions and even class actions from their female/gay/lesbian/bisexual staff at any time in-the-future.

Legal Feminist has highlighted the risk that organisations associated with Stonewall, and in particular its corrupted interpretation of human rights law attract.

It's unlikely most HR Directors have read that advice, but if a Company or organisation maintains a proper Risk Register, having an entry related to being a Stonewall Diversity Champion should be an expectation. Of course that risk can be accepted, or perhaps more sensibly, mitigated, by leaving the scheme.

Legal risks for Stonewall members

As a HR Director, knowledge that your career (and pension) might be at peril if you persist in maintaining a relationship with Stonewall, at the possible cost of seeing your employer subjected to a High Court action by its employees/ex-employees, is surely diffusing through the profession.

ChattyLion · 10/11/2021 13:58

That’s good given the issues with Stonewall but the BBC will need to look at their whole editorial policy about sex and gender issues for their programming and online content. And also show transparently how they will meaningfully support their staff around biological sex, sexuality and gender identity, around which there can still be (obviously) workplace discrimination.
Have they done that thinking? It’s not easy to get right. What will the Stonewall budget be spent on..?

Somebodylikeyew · 10/11/2021 13:59

The emperor’s lack of clothes is finally becoming apparent. Thank fuck for that. Maybe now we really can start to build towards safety and inclusion for ALL.

NecessaryScene · 10/11/2021 14:00

How can they (Stonewall) support LGB people when they say homosexuality is same gender attraction? I honestly don't get it

Because "LGB" is about same-gender attraction, according to Stonewall. So they support "LGB people" - ie same-gender attracted.

(I guess if you're niche gender 37, you get in under the "T", regardless of whether you're attracted to gender 37, anything apart from 37, or only to gender 45 specifically. The LGB bits are only for the boring "male" and "female" genders).

If you think same-sex attraction makes more sense, you probably need to look to new groups like LGB Alliance and Lesbian & Gay News.

And this of course means Stonewall are not the obvious people to go to as experts on the Equality Act, which specifically protects actual sexual orientation.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/11/2021 14:02

So pleased the BBC said: has led some to question whether the BBC can be impartial

That's the question every government department, organisation and school should be asking. Following the demands of those enforcing queer theory is not impartial.

Bellusaurus · 10/11/2021 14:06

@CruellaDeVilla

And unintentional irony here:

“Our work continues until the world we imagine is the world we live in”

Indeed - is that a general stonewall mantra or new for this press release?
CriticalCondition · 10/11/2021 14:09

Yes!! Brilliant news!

WearyLady · 10/11/2021 14:10

Sanity at last!!!

Eyesofdisarray · 10/11/2021 14:11

🎺

NoThankYouSaurus · 10/11/2021 14:12

Good news. But BBC leaving Stonewall doesn't necessarily mean Stonewall leaving the BBC. The change in culture and uncritical attitudes in favour of the trans movement will take a while to disentangle. Let's not let them off the hook too early.

ArabellaScott · 10/11/2021 14:14

Seem to have an earworm.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 10/11/2021 14:14

Fantastic news! Well done to Nolan and Thompson, and everyone in the BBC and other media who's spoken out! And to everyone who has written/emailed/complained to the BBC about the relationship, however small-scale GrinStarGlitterball

OvaHere · 10/11/2021 14:15

@CruellaDeVilla

And unintentional irony here:

“Our work continues until the world we imagine is the world we live in”

That's a very totalitarian mindset. How about you try working within the realms of reality for change?
SapphosRock · 10/11/2021 14:16

And all of a sudden the BBC feels able to use the word 'women' again rather than 'people' Smile

The BBC announces it is leaving Stonewall
BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 14:17

@NoThankYouSaurus

Good news. But BBC leaving Stonewall doesn't necessarily mean Stonewall leaving the BBC. The change in culture and uncritical attitudes in favour of the trans movement will take a while to disentangle. Let's not let them off the hook too early.
That’s not bad either though. If bbc are seeking to be impartial as they should then stonewall still having scope to be open within bbc only means further scope for us to challenge the anti science anti woman anti homosexual bs.

Making it so they are pushed out and their quixotic followers hide with them only means they have a cult following in hiding. And that sucks in vulnerable children and young people.

We don’t want them doing that in the dark. We want them to have a role in mainstream discourse, because that shows up their bias for what it is.

Bellaisoneluckywoman · 10/11/2021 14:17

Bloody BRILLIANT. Massive kudos to Nolan.
