Excellent news.

oakleaffy · 10/11/2021 14:56

Thank goodness for that.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 10/11/2021 14:59

It's a step but I suspect that there is a man behind the curtain. I don't trust either Stonewall or the BBC at all.

TravisFountain · 10/11/2021 15:00

@ChattyLion

Very good point made about future project funding from Children in Need.
Now is probably a good time to write to Tim Davie about where BBC's Children in Need passes on donated money; and to tell him why so many people are now withdrawing their donations.

I can't in all conscience give Gendered Intelligence a penny, or trust BBC's CiN.

BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 15:00

@NewBeginning39

Fan-fucking-tastic news 🥳 Take note DoE!
& everyone who left dc but not wpi

The other thing about the BBC quitting stonewall is that many schools have pshe leads who don't get paid for doing the role, or do it as part of a different role (eg head of year), and so the people writing the schemes of work and organising resources have no particular expertise. They would likely take bbc produced materials as a trusted resource and not refer back the equality act itself - which accounts for some of the stuff we have seen in schools. If bbc are now going to do their work properly, it will have a knock on effect. Similarly, this why it is so important to ensure police, government, judges and the equality commission are impartial.

A cynical person might say that stonewall deliberately targeted "trusted" organisations in order to actively prevent proper scrutiny.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/11/2021 15:02

I am so happy to see this. Much as I am frustrated with Stonewall there is a bigger issue. The BBC shouldn’t be beholden to any lobby group, it’s supposed to be impartial.

zafferana · 10/11/2021 15:02

Fantastic news! When I wrote to them, thanking them for posting that article about lesbians being coerced into sex/raped by transwomen, I said that I hoped it was sign that the BBC was ready to leave the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, and it turns out that it was. Brave BBC! About bloody time, but better late than never.

treguffin · 10/11/2021 15:03

Wow. This is good news!

MangoSplit · 10/11/2021 15:06

Excellent news

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/11/2021 15:07

This is very useful information for parents to use when complaining to schools about some of the awful materials they're using about gender identity. Schools need to be impartial and not push the demands of groups like Stonewall promoting queer theory. If the BBC sees the problem with remaining impartial when following Stonewall's instructions, then so should schools.

Sexnotgender · 10/11/2021 15:13

Truly excellent news.

Wheresthebeach · 10/11/2021 15:14

@SirSamuelVimes

Holy shit!!

However, over time our participation in the Programme has led some to question whether the BBC can be impartial when reporting on public policy debates where Stonewall is taking an active role.

After careful consideration, we believe it is time to step back from the Diversity Champions Programme and will also no longer participate in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.

Brilliant. The tide is turning.
StandUpStraight · 10/11/2021 15:14

This is excellent news. Since all public bodies need to remain impartial, they should all at this point be following the BBC’s lead.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 15:16

I'm genuinely amazed they've done this, though pleased of course, but I'm sorry to say my first thought is what else is going on behind the scenes/coming their way ... in other words what the real motivation is for distancing themselves

Because experience teaches that the obvious answer isn't always the only one, especially with organisations like this

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/11/2021 15:18

Excellent news

FlyingOink · 10/11/2021 15:19

This will be why, as a lesbian in a Stonewalled organization, I am afraid to speak in certain work environments where the BBC article about lesbians being coerced by TW was discussed with the Stonewall line of 'liars, not significant, lesbians have penises too'? Where my complaints to D&I team members are ignored while they fawn over non-binary ID males? Where any slight dissent about Stonewall policies is pounced on, and pejorative terms about women and sexual boasts are waved through as long as it's couched in 'Inclusive, LGBTQ+' terms?

That fucking sucks. It's even more enraging that all the unions are useless on this subject too.

Gastonia · 10/11/2021 15:20

It's now on the bbc website
www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59232736

I notice the article links to Nolan's podcasts, which is good.

quiteathome · 10/11/2021 15:23

I didn't realise they got so much money from the DofE. It is disgraceful. That money could be used for so much. Education is underfunded as it is

quiteathome · 10/11/2021 15:23

I was trying to quote another post. It didn't work. 🤔

quiteathome · 10/11/2021 15:24

Good news on the BBC.

Needmoresleep · 10/11/2021 15:25

Some thanks may be due to Nadine Dorries, Secretary of State for DCMS. This is her tweet in 2018. Afaik she was the second MP, after David TC Davis, to start openly questioning the madness.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/11/2021 15:28

Ha! Nolan did the trick then! About bloody time.

singingsoprano · 10/11/2021 15:30

Brilliant news!

FlyingOink · 10/11/2021 15:31

This bit in the Stonewall statement:

It is shocking that organisations are being pressured into rolling back support for LGBTQ+ employees.

is an actual lie. Organisations are not being pressured to roll back support for employees.

Organisations are now wary of being associated with a controversial pressure group. Where's the evidence that withdrawing from a Stonewall scheme results in less support in the workplace?

Where's the evidence being in a Stonewall scheme makes an employer better for an LGB employee to work in, anyway? Do we take Stonewall's word for it that their product improves working conditions?
My employer sounds much less awful than Floral's and has never been part of their schemes.
