Marion Millar's case delayed again

As the title says yet again today's hearing/legal arguments have been rescheduled this time until the 1st of November. 🤬🤬

Have they actually managed to work out and tell her what it is they want her dragged back to court for yet, or is this a case of them needing more time to think?

I look forward to her counter claim for this farcical mucking about. Poor woman.

It's disgraceful really. The stress she is under from this farcical process is just a joke. I hope common sense prevails soon and charges are dismissed.

Psychological torture. What an absolute farce.

It's as if they're embarrassed to be going through with this and hope if they keep kicking it down the road it will get lost in the long grass somewhere.

We must wait for the hearing, but I note the defendant's costs are rising. What will the judge have to say about them?

I have been told that if she wins the hearing not only will all charges have to be thrown out of crt but it could see the hate crime law being struck off the statute (IANAL so don't understand how/why this could be or even if it's correct)

From the last court appearance, it seems to be because the hate crime law is incompatible with the human rights/free speech laws.

Do not mention the name of the actor or the copper, and do not state that you think MM is guilty or innocent.

Maybe the police have decided they don't want any more bad press at the expense of women and are trying to figure out how to emerge from this without looking hopelessly misogynistic.

The detail we currently have is all we should discuss. No more, just the facts that are in the public domain, but no names, no pack drill.

Maybe the police have decided they don't want any more bad press at the expense of women and are trying to figure out how to emerge from this without looking hopelessly misogynistic.

Appoint a hearing, cancel it, keep doing this, keep grinding down the defendant, and then hope they'll accept when you offer them a lesser charge to escape the misery of the process. This way the prosecuting authorities can save face and it doesn't risk undermining the hate crime legislation.

I too think they are delaying because there is a lot of panicking going on behind the scenes.

I hope she’s able to sure the pants off someone when this is all over.

I have seen people complaining on twitter that her lawyers are the wrong sort of lawyers (ie defended someone the tra tweeter disagreed with). So, I assume that means they are decent.

I think Marion said there was a press release about the further delay, but I've not seen it anywhere yet.

Unfortunately, the hate crime law is not going to be struck off the statute if the charges against MM are dropped or she is found not guilty.

The reason is simply that she was not charged under the new hate crime law, so nothing that happens at the hearing can have an impact on that law.

And judging from the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act (a previous and similarly bad law that led to countless discriminatory charges, predominantly against young Catholic men), it will take years of campaigning to change the new hate crime law away from being a new blasphemy law into something less totalitarian.

That does assume a capacity for critical thinking and willingness to consider public reaction that has so far been woefully lacking.

Usually court cases get delayed because the court is double booked or the judge has an emergency appointment on the golfcourse

I just hope she's ok. It must be absolutely awful, the constant shit on social media, the fear of her safety, the worry about long term mental health damage, the sheer terror of worrying about paying for it. I thing she's so brave but under the surface her legs must be going like the clappers to keep her floating serenely along. It's just appalling it keeps getting delayed.
