Woman

I’m not trying to be difficult and I’m sorry if it’s been done before, but my partner doesn’t have a definition of ‘woman’ that can also include ‘transwomen are women’ but insists they are under an ‘umbrella’ term but can’t explain what woman means.

So if it’s not ‘adult female human’ what it is?

I’m at a complete loss and feel like I’m arguing science and he’s arguing flat earth.

Ask him to provide a sensible definition. Don’t do his work for him.

Fitt · 28/09/2021 22:04

Tell him it's not raining.

HipTightOnions · 28/09/2021 22:04

He won’t have an answer. It’s like trying to find an umbrella term that encompasses all vegetables but also strawberries.

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 22:06

The onus is on him surely.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 22:07

If some cats are dogs, and some dogs are cats, then there are no cats and no dogs, just catdogs.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/09/2021 22:09

Why do you have to argue anything?

You know what a woman is. He apparently doesn't. Leave it to him to explain his incorrect definitions

Babdoc · 28/09/2021 22:10

Good luck with that.
He is trying to find a definition of (X) that includes (the opposite of X). Logical impossibility.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/09/2021 22:10

To be honest do you want to be with a misogynist? He knows what a woman is. He can find one when he wants one. He could walk through a crowd and pick all the women out, spot all the feminine men, all the masculine women.

He is choosing men and males. More rights for men because men want them and we cannot have sad men because they are men.

That's his choice.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 22:11

Or, to quote Carl Sagan:

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

WarOnWoman · 28/09/2021 22:12

Yes, get him to explain it. Without circular reasoning. Maybe a definition of man while he's at it.

dyslek · 28/09/2021 22:12

Dont waist your life with a whiney little prick.

Cailleach1 · 28/09/2021 22:13

Does he know what a man means? If he (presuming here) does, then it is just the name for the other sex in adult humans.

yourhairiswinterfire · 28/09/2021 22:13

I’m at a complete loss and feel like I’m arguing science and he’s arguing flat earth.

It's exactly that.

If he's insisting it's true, it should be easy enough for him to explain...

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 28/09/2021 22:28

Interestingly he won’t. He just tells me to ‘leave it’ when he comes to a definition. I’m losing my patience and then I’m angry and unkind. I just want a fucking answer of women and the women ‘umbrella’ is.

OP posts:
littlequestion · 28/09/2021 22:30

Ask him what a man is. He might be better at that.

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 28/09/2021 22:34

Turns out no - I pushed, he didn’t want to get into it. Then it turns out a woman is a social construct + something about anyone who thinks they are a woman is a woman. And now he’s refusing to continue the conversation.

OP posts:
EarringsandLipstick · 28/09/2021 22:35

something about anyone who thinks they are a woman is a woman

Did he really say this?

MordenLarch · 28/09/2021 22:37

Just wanted to say I love this!

“He is choosing men and males. More rights for men because men want them and we cannot have sad men because they are men.”

Gncq · 28/09/2021 22:45

Is he twelve? Does he work for the BBC? Then I'd understand and be sympathetic. Otherwise he's actually chosen to believe this rubbish.

Does he know how babies are made? Is baby making between two adult humans a "social construction" these days?

Sorry you're with such a numpty. Must be horrid.

FourteenSixteenTwentyTwo · 28/09/2021 22:47

Yes, he really said. I am so angry right now. It started when we spoke about the shitty language in the media right now ‘people with cervixes’, ‘bodies with vaginas’ and despite me telling him it was dehumanising to me he insisted it was inclusive. FFS.

I suggested I’d refer to his as a body with a prostate and he found it funny (because clearly it’s a bit of a joke to him). I’m so fed up. I just want to fucking know what the fuck a woman is if not an adult human female but apparently the umbrella is there without definition.

OP posts:
donquixotedelamancha · 28/09/2021 22:47

He just tells me to ‘leave it’

Take his advice. Personally I just couldn't be with someone who was flat-earth, witchcraft, anti-vax or any other anti-reality belief.

Different views are great but you've got to be able to listen and adjust what you think in a relationship.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 28/09/2021 22:50

Stick with 'adult human female' and let him continue to make himself look like a plonker.

There is no other definition of 'woman'.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 28/09/2021 22:51

Ask him if he would ever sleep with a transwoman and if not, why not.

FFSFFSFFS · 28/09/2021 22:52

Ask him what definition he’d use when describing who he’d shag. Guarantee you he won’t have any problems with words there

Helleofabore · 28/09/2021 22:57

I guess you need to take some time to evaluate how important this is for you. Is this something you can overlook or is this something that will continue to cause disagreements that will cause a rift.

I am sorry OP.
