Labour's batshit opinions on women's rights

Conference season is highlighting some interesting opinions from Labour mps on women's rights (although when asked about women's rights they always turn this into a discussion on trans issues)

I thought it would be useful to collate into one thread, feel free to add.

Starmer 'Only women have a cervix' is, "Something that should not be said."

I think Starmer has decided to come down on the TRA side, he thinks it will be a figleaf as he purges the left.
What a dumdum, he thinks its politically harmless and will provide cover while getting rid of left wing members.
About as politically harmless and ditching Brexit lets hope.

Fariha31 · 28/09/2021 10:03

The fact they are all reading from a script, litterly it seems to me indicates he is trying for a Cambell style obiediance push.

sHREDDIES19 · 28/09/2021 10:03

Wow, they are so out of step with society as a whole, running scared of saying the wrong thing and not looking super-woke at all times. What have they become? I've never voted Labour and after this, I most definitely never will. Shame on them.

There is an actual script. Look at the clip around 20 seconds in Rachel starts reading from something on her desk. twitter.com/LBC/status/1442380463298027520

I thought Labour got on board with male sexual rights and genderism because they were courting the youth and/or privileged middle class vote. Which they’ve done/retained with some success, but now with Starmer in charge to get actually into elected power they need to be ready to be elected by everyone of any age.

So the gender identity issue, a classic one of drawing support from people in a position of privilege enough not to need to ever rely on single sex public services and/or relying on support from the life inexperience and the political idealism of youth, is a catastrophic electoral fuck up on Labour’s part.

And if Labour don’t want to get into power and don’t want to be an effective opposition either (or can’t be due to constantly looking inwards) WTF are they?

jenny5000 · 28/09/2021 10:21

But are they out of touch with society? Sadly, I'm not so sure.

deadleaves · 28/09/2021 10:21

I’m another one who will be voting Tory for the first time in my voting life (25 years)

I voted Tory in the last election. The candidate was the only one who responded to my query about their position on sex based rights. So they got my vote., Not voting for cowards who won't even explain their position. (Actually Labour did respond but cowardly waited till AFTER the election).

deadleaves · 28/09/2021 10:23

Amazing to see them all floundering like this. I think it's partly because some of them are too stupid to understand what the debate is about, too incurious to find out, and too frightened of trans activists to deviate from the new orthodoxy

Its probably partly a result of our political system. MPs aren't rewarded for interrogating policy. They build their careers on following the party line and voting as they are told.

From another thread

Nicky Campbell asked if someone with a penis was a woman this morning. It was to a Labour person, presumably male, going by the voice and name( sorry I didn't catch their name, I'd never heard of them before) just before 8 am on 5 live. He followed it up by asking if a woman with a penis should be in women's places such as prisons.

More sputtering from Labour as a reply, with a smattering of most marginalised, and toxic, and so on and so forth.

That may have been Nick Thomas-Symonds,Shadow Home Secretary

@EdgeOfACoin

You're correct, OvaHere. I feel like Lisa Nandy has pledged her allegiance to this one family and promised them her unfailing support. It's the 'I have a lovely trans friend' narrative which underpins her entire attitude towards policy.

She is so blinkered, it is dangerous. I know people who could drink alcohol and drive perfectly well afterwards. We don't base drink driving policy on the people who are really good at driving while drink. For good reason!

Why so focused on this one constituent though? Doesn’t she have any female constituents who have been raped and might want single sex services, or who have been victims of domestic violence and might want single sex refuges etc? Has she not met any of them at all?
RoyalCorgi · 28/09/2021 10:57

The fact they are all reading from a script,

The script seems to go: "Um, er, it's very complicated. I don't want to answer that. Er, er, trans people are the most marginalised people in the country. Er, er, please can we talk about something else [frightened look in eyes]."

It was indeed Nick Thomas-Symonds!

Labour MP Barry Gardiner has told a constituent that not allowing a male access to a women's space such as a changing room when he says he is a woman is the equivalent of the forced segregation of black Africans in South Africa in the 1960s and 1970s

twitter.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1442377290185203714

Barry denies this, and posts the letter on twitter, which shows that is exactly what he did twitter.com/BarryGardiner/status/1442598243095941122

I'm really pissed off that I decided to leave Labour a few months ago, after a lifetime of being a supporter. I'd give a lot to be able to tell them where to go all over again! What on earth have they come to :(.

ChattyLion · 28/09/2021 11:44

Genuinely, I don’t believe the UK public are on board with the reality this whatsoever, if they realise what it actually means for women and girls.

At least it's clear though, none of the waffle there. I have some respect for that.

Yes, at least he is being honest. Sobel, I mean.

They are literally reading the same script, it’s mind boggling and appalling
