Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

"Why do you support homophobia?"

Enough of the loaded questions, thanks.

Quite on message isn’t he Gasp0de?

Media outlets note: the 'LGB Alliance' does not represent lesbian, gay or bisexual people in any shape or form.

Rather a lot of reality denial there.

Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 13:59

@MargaritaPie

Video here: twitter.com/SpillerOfTea/status/1431902625260347394

The description given by the uploader is:

*"Transphobic bigot in an LGB Alliance t-shirt being yeeted the fuck out of Pride as chants of ‘trans lives matter’ ring in his shitty fucking ears.

A very big YES to all of this."*

LGB Alliance supporters aren't welcome in a gay pride? Gosh I wonder why.

What an incredibly ugly, nasty tweet that is. And so indicative of the real attitude towards others, towards 'kindness' and 'inclusion' and 'tolerance' that is being celebrated.

Pride has been hijacked. I certainly see nothing left there to be 'proud' of.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/08/2021 14:03

In 1976, the San Francisco Pride was joined by the Dykes on Bikes, lesbians on motorcycles who led the 2,000 marchers which started a new tradition.

In 1978 the rainbow flag was first used in San Francisco Pride. Harvey Milk, the San Francisco Supervisor who was the first openly gay elected official in California, challenged his friend, gay rights activist Gilbert Baker, to come up with a symbol of pride for the community. Thirty volunteers hand-dyed and stitched together two of the rainbow flags he designed.

The T&Q were added later as Pride grew in popularity and the names of the marches changed from Gay Pride to just Pride.

It’s so sad to me that video. Pride and the rainbow flag are literally being taken away from the creators of it.

Is that a typo? Did he mean to say:

"'Stonewall' does not represent lesbian, gay or bisexual people in any shape or form."

or
"'Pride' does not represent lesbian, gay or bisexual people in any shape or form."

The first post on that thread comes from someone very hard of thinking….

Its hard when you cant answer them isnt it

Sympathies 💐

HeddaAga · 29/08/2021 14:07

So just to clarify... Owen Jones is delighted a straight (queer heterosexual?!?!) woman had a gay man removed from Manchester pride for wearing the logo of a charity that supports gay, lesbian and bisexual people who are same sex attracted? Stop the world I want to get off.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/08/2021 14:09

I agree, @Artichokeleaves. The whole thing is vile.

Watching that video of the chanting mob’s ugly behaviour and I was trying to remember what it reminded me of, then it came to me…

…Orwell’s Two Minutes Hate.

Well apart form the LGB people who set it up and the LGB membership, obvs.....

Good grief, how did anyone write something that stupid?

I don't get it? Feeling confused by this thread. Anyone explain in plain English what has happened.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/08/2021 14:29

A gay man went to Manchester Pride. He wore a hat and a t-shirt which said LGB Alliance on the front. LGB Alliance is a registered charity for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. It's been formed because Stonewall now represents trans and 'queer' people as well as LGB people (only since 2015, I think, so not that long ago), and the T and Q interests are seen by many to dominate. Some people have decided LGB Alliance is a hate group because it doesn't campaign for trans rights. This young man was surrounded by a mob yelling 'Trans lives matter!' and decided to leave. His hat was taken off his head and he didn't get it back. He was escorted away by two police officers, which some have taken as evidence that the police removed him from the march, but this appears to be wrong.

That's what happened, @Window1, as far as I can make out. There's a video clip on the thread.

OP posts:
Jorriss · 29/08/2021 14:29

Yes it really does remind me of Orwell's two minutes of hate as well. Very disturbing.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/08/2021 14:32

I agree with you OP. The police didn’t remove him from the march. I saw in video that he approached the police and you can hear him asking them for an escort as the crowd was being very hostile and I saw something thrown at him...looked like a bit of crumpled paper.

wellbehavedwomen · 29/08/2021 14:34

The Charity Commission agreed that LGB Alliance has reasonable aims which serve the public good. The complaints from eg Mermaids were dismissed as being unfounded.

There are charities solely serving trans purposes, and that's as it should be. Everyone has a right to having their interests as a group furthered appropriately. What I don't fathom is why charities serving solely LGB purposes should be demonised - which is also happening to charities seeking solely to serve women, as defined by sex.

It's not okay to try to silence and harass people simply for collectively organising to defend their own best interests and rights.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/08/2021 14:34

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

This one, Rufus?
Obviously the tweeter hasn’t watched the video or is trying to change the narrative from “bullying a terf until he left” to “random idiot left because he objected to a trans lives matter chant”

He was being called “asshole” in the video and had his hat snatched off his head.

Everyone knows Talcum X would never sleep with a transman. The gender zealots don't seem to care about that for some reason.

wellbehavedwomen · 29/08/2021 14:35

(Sorry, that was to blueberry's stupid claim that a registered charity is a hate group.)

Window1 a gay man, wearing a t-shirt and hat with the logo of a charity specifically for LGB people was escorted away from a Pride march for his own safety because they started shouting at him about trans people and stole his hat.

Some very impressive and progressive people are saying he deserved it because as a gay man who thinks homosexuals and bisexuals have issues separate from trans demands, and indeed that the two are often in conflict, he is a wicked bigot who should be hounded from public spaces.

These are the same charmers who can be found all over the place telling homosexuals to get over our 'genital preferences' or stay closeted and insisting we be called qu**r whether we like it or not.

You can make your own mind up about which camp you're in. I'll be standing with LGB Alliance and telling the homophobes to piss off.

OvaHere · 29/08/2021 14:41

This is just horrifying. The absolute glee some people are demonstrating in hounding this man presumably because he wants to signal his right to same sex attraction.

I don't know how they don't see what they've become.

I expect an awful lot of observers will be noting it for what it is as the video is shared to a wider audience.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/08/2021 14:44

@MargaritaPie

"Why do you support homophobia?"

Enough of the loaded questions, thanks.

But it isn't a loaded question.

It's the same as you asking any GC poster here why they hate trans people.
