Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

It's unpleasant to watch, but then bullying mobs always are.

"The surest way to work up a crusade in favour of some good cause is to promise people they will have a chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behaviour 'righteous indignation' - this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats." Huxley - prescient as ever

Thanks for adding the video. Just seen that on Twitter. Terrifying experience for the young man in question.

On one of her book launch events for Trans, Helen Joyce predicted that this mess will only begin to be sorted out when the men engage. The gay man removed from Pride has been considered, moderate and thoughtful in his response, much like women were in the beginning. Due to the #nodebate stance, we have been forced to become more entrenched, less open to compromise and as some observers have called us 'shrill'.

Now we have raised national consciousness to the point where a debate has to be had (except in Scotland which is a hot mess), the menz can come in and be all considerate and moderate and Stonewall et all will sit down with them, because they will have no choice not to, and we will be told if only we had handled it better we would have gotten to an agreement way sooner.

Shock
Disgraceful.

It's fucking scary and a bit nauseating. Time was you could spot a fascist by their appearance. But look at this lot. All glittery hipsters behaving like rabid hyenas.
nauticant · 29/08/2021 11:49

As an aside, I was amused to see that Alex Bramham, the victim of the bullying, is responsible for this:

Political and religious extremism is always going to exist - the problem here is that organisations are not taking this form of extremism seriously.

Indeed, they seem desperate to deny it - it's as if they think fascism couldn't possibly arrive under a garish multi-coloured flag rather than a mean-looking red-white-and-black one.

Actually, I guess antifa use a mean-looking flag, but apparently their fascism is indetectable because of their cunning name...

I find these sorts of disguises as effective as Clarke Kent's glasses - I sometimes struggle to believe that others are really fooled by such shallow rhetoric and symbols.

Now, there IS right-wing extremism too. But I'm much less worried about it at the moment because authorities do take it seriously. They're not taking THIS seriously - they're almost encouraging it!

At some point people are going to get seriously hurt.

A what??

nauticant · 29/08/2021 12:08

A heterosexual who self-identifies as "queer" where "queer" means nothing beyond a lifestyle label but conveys useful social cachet.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 29/08/2021 12:12

@AfternoonToffee

Isn't it strange how all the usual vocal posters never appear on these threads, they either have to defend the indefensible (outright bullying) or they have to start applying critical thought (and that is not allowed)
Theyve been awful quiet recently…

Yes and why not. Like a vegetarian cannibal! Also @nauticant I like him even more now. Love a bit of Polari and he seems like a decent young man. Glad he's not pursuing charges - afaik ? Keep the Moral high ground.

@Artichokeleaves

Yay I bullied a gay man out of Pride for being homosexual. Hmm

Would someone tell me the difference now between this and say the EDL? I know the targeted characteristics differ, but the thug behaviour, intolerance and attitude..... ? Looking very similar to me. This is just becoming an excuse to be vile to other people and get away with it.

And yet there were hundreds of gay men there who weren't kicked out so it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay, but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group to an event supposed to celebrate the very people that hate group targets. It's like if someone wearing an EDL shirt turned up to a BLM rally, and then tried to spin it on twitter that they were made to leave just for being white.

Not Like The Other Girls.
Redshoeblueshoe · 29/08/2021 12:27

Except LGBA are not a hate group

alkanet · 29/08/2021 12:28

A queer heterosexual??? These kids are the first to start shrieking about cultural appropriation and yet they have stolen Pride and turned on a gay man doing nothing more than wearing a T shirt they don't like.

MistandMud · 29/08/2021 12:30

What’s hateful about being only sane-sex attracted and saying so?

Nobody is saying that being only same-gender attracted should be criticised. If you love outwardly masculine people only, that’s fine.

LGBAlliance is a legitimate charity and sells t shirts. What’s hateful about that?

MistandMud · 29/08/2021 12:31

Ok, that was meant to be ‘same’ not sane, but you get the gist.

MistandMud · 29/08/2021 12:32

What’s your actual beef with LGBAlliance and their aims, Blueberry? If they don’t represent your own views, just support other charities.

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/08/2021 12:34

but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group to an event supposed to celebrate the very people that hate group targets.

You misspelt 'legal, registered LGB charity' :)

Being same-sex attracted and supporting a registered charity that advocates for same-sex attracted people is not a crime. Homophobia is though.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/08/2021 12:35

I watched the video. It is so dystopian.
To think Pride, founded for LGB people, has become purely T and the crowd thinks its ok to heckle and harass a gay man simply for supporting the LGB Alliance....or 75% of LGBT
Proof that the T should never have been added to LGB and welcomed by LGB Alliance because Ts and their Allies are blatantly homophobic.

Artichokeleaves · 29/08/2021 12:35

The 'hate' was saying that he was homosexual. That was it. That was all.

But yes, thank you for that example of absolute intolerance.

MarshmallowSwede · 29/08/2021 12:40

So they have admitted to be homophobes. Why is anyone supporting TRA groups? It’s a hate organization. Hate against gays and lesbians and against natal born women.

I saw a horrific video of a young lesbian woman who had attended an event and went to live in a commune. She had been “educated” about her genitals preferences and how she was transphobic to not want to have sex with a man or a trans woman with a penis. She said she saw the light.. and had changed her mind and now was ok with “lady dick”.

What stuck out to me was whenever this young woman spoke about having sex with a trans lesbian (a man) her face became red and she was obviously Distressed and anxious. But she was saying all the right words.

She had been to an event and first been bullied to “change her mindset” towards trans. You can’t even be gay or lesbian in public anymore.

I feel sorry for actual gay and lesbian people now.

And demanding sexual access to people is abusive. No one has tk date you and you’re not owed sex.

Being same sex attracted is not a crime and it is not transphobic.

PlanDeRaccordement · 29/08/2021 12:42

@BlueberryCheezecake

You are sadly ignorant on the history of Pride. Pride was founded for LGB people. The event was originally to celebrate LGB, not trans or queer people. The T&Q were welcomed and included in decades later, and this is how they are repaying that generosity and inclusiveness, by excluding the founding pioneers, the LGBs from Pride.

There is also no proof he is a terf. Wearing an original t-shirt from early years of Pride could simply be his way of showing he’s been a Pride member for over twenty years....from the days before T & Q. The members of the crowd were simply jumping to a prejudiced conclusion and indulging in illegal street harassment.

You are also sadly ignorant about LGB Alliance, it is not a hate group in the slightest.

Please go read up on Pride.
