Gay man 'bullied' off Manchester Pride for wearing LGB Alliance hat and t-shirt

LibDem activist delighted by this. Here are two of her tweets. The gay man who turned up in an LGB hat and t-shirt was allegedly advised by police to leave for his own safety and seems to have had the hat stolen.

Another young fool tweeted that 'bullying the guy in the LGB Alliance shirt who came to the protest march is my favourit part of Pride so far xx'. He has since deleted this (possibly because he is now sober and/or has seen how many people had reported this to his employers) and now claims he was just chanting 'Trans lives matter!'. 'Bullying' is an odd choice of words for this. How could anyone think admitting publicly to 'bullying' was a good look?

The LGB Alliance man has been advised that people shouting at him is actually assault if he wants to take it further. Doesn't sound like he does, though.

Unedifying, to say the least.

That Lib Dem woman needed a mob behind here to attack that man

What sort of person would do that

Hateful cowardly and homophobic person would do that

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 14:51

@MargaritaPie

"Why do you support homophobia?"

Enough of the loaded questions, thanks.

Can't answer or won't answer my questions?

Let's try another couple:

Why is it anti-trans to advocate for the right, which is enshrined in Law, to be same sex attracted to be upheld?

Why is it anti-trans for a legally registered charity to advocate for those who are same sex attracted to have their legal rights upheld?

Why is it anti-trans to exclude from the above people for whom the above does not apply?

Jorriss · 29/08/2021 14:56

It's not a loaded question. It's a pretty simple question. You appear to be happy that transpeople made a gay man unsafe at pride. That stinks of homophobia to me. I am asking you why you seem to support homophobia? And if you don't support homophobia, why are you supporting how this gay man was treated?

Why don't you want to answer the question?

Are you unable to answer the question?

Or is the answer so unpalatable that you don't want to out yourself here?

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/08/2021 14:56

I think it's best to leave Pride to the homophobes and the animal and baby fetishists.

Better for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people to have our own marches and events.

Would seem so Nonny.

Yes. I agree. Pride seems to be pretty tainted now. Need something new that is not homophobic and actually supports the LGB.

I don't think they need to out themselves. It's pretty obvious what kind of person they are from the kind of behaviour they are supporting.

Kind of what I said in my deleted comment. Grin

From some of the images I’ve seen from Pride events, I think it’s probably better to not be associated (with those images).

As an American I am apalled at how brazenly they appropriated BLM and that just hearing that chant, in that accent.. Jesus. Aint nobody busting in their doors in the middle of the night on a no-knock warrant and massacring them in their beds. How dare they steal that cry of pain in service of their fancy British problems.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

A gay man went to Manchester Pride. He wore a hat and a t-shirt which said LGB Alliance on the front. LGB Alliance is a registered charity for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. It's been formed because Stonewall now represents trans and 'queer' people as well as LGB people (only since 2015, I think, so not that long ago), and the T and Q interests are seen by many to dominate. Some people have decided LGB Alliance is a hate group because it doesn't campaign for trans rights. This young man was surrounded by a mob yelling 'Trans lives matter!' and decided to leave. His hat was taken off his head and he didn't get it back. He was escorted away by two police officers, which some have taken as evidence that the police removed him from the march, but this appears to be wrong.

That's what happened, @Window1, as far as I can make out. There's a video clip on the thread.

Thanks for that. You almost couldn't make it up. One of THE places that should be safe and open.

I agree with you OP. The police didn’t remove him from the march. I saw in video that he approached the police and you can hear him asking them for an escort as the crowd was being very hostile and I saw something thrown at him...looked like a bit of crumpled paper.

Fucking hell that is disgraceful, it really makes me feel quite sick. WTF is wrong with people?
YouJustDoYou · 29/08/2021 15:16

They're so toxic, these activists/extremists. They love shouting 'bigot' at anyone they disagree with, and don't even realise that it is in factthemthat are the bigots. Intolerant, homophobic, misogynist bullies who just cannot see how poisonous and deranged they look to everyone not in their bubble.

Homophobic hate crimes happening and actually being cheered on at Pride. You couldn't make it up.

These utter clowns are dragging us backwards, and are doing absolutely nothing for 'trans rights

This, exactly. They're doing nothing for trans rights, and promoting hatred of women, lesbians, and gay people. It's frightening that they are allowed free reign in their dictatorship.

I hear you. It's appallingly offensive.

The trouble is, as the LGBA demonstrates, to set up again, alone, is not tolerated. It's immediately called exclusionary, and 'hate'.
Jorriss · 29/08/2021 15:25

More people need to stand up and say no to this stinking homophobia. We cannot let this hateful rhetoric win.

BigNothing · 29/08/2021 15:27

In case it's not clear, it's April Preston in the video taking part in the shouting.
She's always been vocal about trans rights but to bully someone for their sexuality is indefensible.

I've only seen the video circulated on Twitter so no idea if the bloke did anything to prompt this.

IvyTwines2 · 29/08/2021 15:28

The 'nonbinary demigirl flux' with the orange headdress who pursues the gay man literally has a skull and crossbones on 'their' studded black leather face mask. "Hans, are we the baddies?"

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/08/2021 15:28

The homophobic zealots can squawk about 'hate' and being 'exclusionary' as much as they want. The vast majority of the population know that opposition to same-sex attraction is not a good look.

BilindaB · 29/08/2021 15:30

''And yet there were hundreds of gay men there who weren't kicked out so it's almost like the issue wasn't that he was gay, but that he turned up wearing apparel from a hate group to an event supposed to celebrate the very people that hate group targets.''

Exactly.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 29/08/2021 15:31

@Window1

I don't get it? Feeling confused by this thread. Anyone explain in plain English what has happened.
Someone wore an LGB Alliance hat at Pride. Pride celebrates LGBTQ+ Then wonders why people are Hmm at said hat being worn.
secular111 · 29/08/2021 15:31

I reckon before the end of the year, 'Quisling' Jones is going to be writing that The Taliban are perfectly justified in killing homosexuals, and that all non-compliant gay males in the UK should be attacked without hesitation. That's how far I reckon he's willing to go to help his homophobic pals.

I wouldn't though be able to determine whether he will use his Guardian column to promote his new self-appointed role as Enforcer-in-the-Compliance-of-Gay-Men's-Thoughts-and-Beliefs or if he'll just restrain himself to his Twitter feed.

His support for the attack on the gay man at Manchester Pride didn't quite garner the praise he perhaps thought he would get. There was one commentator repeatedly saying he was a gay male who would happily attack another gay man for having disagreeable thoughts, but otherwise there were numerous comments unfavourable to Quisling Jones.

He seems to have some deep-seated hatred of male homosexuals (despite being one himself) in addition to his well-documented hatred of women. The lack of support will likely enrage him more, and I suspect he will express that through encouragement of more homophobic attacks.

Saying "supporting same-sex attraction is hate" is homophobic. We all see it.

I thought Pride was about LGB people. Has that changed? Who is it for now?
