I think I’m going mad….

I’ve absolutely had enough of my family bringing up ‘mum’s views’ (which I’ve learnt to keep completely private from them due to previously accusations of bigotry’), and then when I say a single thing in response,, accusing me of being ‘obsessed’ with it and not keeping it to myself!

I feel like I’m going mad. Husband saying he doesn’t know why I’m so obsessed with trans matters and I should keep to myself - I do! I don’t want to share with them because they don’t agree and don’t want to hear it.
Ever since the first time I tried to bring up and got shot down my him and kids I decided I would never mention again and wait for them one day to find out for themselves and be peaked.

But Just once again tonight in response to their accusations (they brought up subject not me) I tried to explain briefly why it opposes women’s rights and homosexual rights and got quickly turned upon. I’ve bought Trans by Helen Joyce now and will just tell them to read it next time (although will no doubt get condemned for buying a ‘transphobic’ book and they will refuse to read it) I feel really down, I can’t even have my own personal opinions and thoughts now without my very own family trying to eek out of me what ‘I really think’ and nose at what I’m looking at over my shoulder (I follow Glinner and Posie and Mars). I’ve bought headphones so they don’t hear it and never share any of it. I have to clear my history in case they search it.

It’s like some weird dystopia we’ve all been forced to enter. I even mentioned the olympics tonight in my defence and they still they said that I imagine all of this and it’s not really happening.

What will it take for they and the general public to wake up and at least listen to women’s concerns? I feel so upset tonight. 😩

@ScreamingMeMe
You say libelous shit about trans people all the goddamn time.

ScreamingMeMe · 08/08/2021 12:10

@MrsOvertonsWindow

Faints at the thought of women being allowed to challenge misogyny, hatred, rape and death threats. Women will be asking for the vote next Confused
The pretend victim complex is strong with this one.

Women are just suing TRAs left, right and centre for 'criticism'. This is definitely a thing that is happening.

Examples please.

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 12:11

And for the record, I absolutely support women being able to use the same means to challenge slander and libel against them as men do.

Not surprised the poster pushing sexism and homophobia doesn't, though.

TalkingOutYerArse · 08/08/2021 12:12

Bingo card complete. Was just waiting on 'literal'.

How is it "sexism and homophobia" to allow trans people live their lives the way they want to?
MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 12:13

After all the misogyny and homophobia on display this morning, this has cut the deepest

I was going to say vouch for Floral ... and then realised that actually...... I couldn't Grin

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 12:14

Have you emptied the laundry basket yet?

TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 12:14

So are we supposed to abolish libel laws now? That's a new one.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 12:15

Only libel laws relating to women Tinsel Do keep up.

Muwahaha.

Actually, Tinsel does know I'm not JKR. She's sworn to secrecy on who I actually am, thoughWink

They should definitely not allow billionaires to browbeat people into deleting tweets critical of their bigotry.

I think only poorer people* are allowed to sue for libel. Or maybe only trans people, because apparently they are getting libelled "all the goddamn time".
  • Like Jean Hatchet, who had to crowdfund for her case? Maybe not eh?
Starbar66 · 08/08/2021 12:17

Probably very little you can do about your spouse OP but bide your time. My very woke teen was entirely blinkered and spouted this stuff but into their twenties have mellowed... said to me recently they know its nonsense and you can't change sex, plus they now see that women's concerns are valid. They clearly found it impossible to challenge prevailing propaganda but now are able to reflect and change their view. They are involved in student politics and have tired of the misogyny and intolerance. So they may mature and become more broad-minded and able to critique what is all around them at this age. Keep the faith!

TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 12:17

Oh I see, I think you have misunderstood the purpose of these laws- it's to prevent people saying stuff that isnt true.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 12:18

And here comes the list of women not allowed to defend themselves against death threats, rape threats, porn being shared with children and threats of violence. How many billions of women are on this list I wonder?

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 12:18

I am getting the gist that it's a combination of qualities that can ve summed up as 'women I don't like' that must be barred from protection against libel.

TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 12:19

*Like Jean Hatchet, who had to crowdfund for her case? Maybe not eh?

IIRC Jean had a conditional fee arrangement- which actually shows you don't have to be rich to pursue a case for libel if you can find lawyers who think you have a strong case (ie because what has been said about you is actually a big fat lie).

Jorrris · 08/08/2021 12:21

I think you need to go look up the meaning of bigotry. Because it's clear you don't have a clue.

ScreamingMeMe · 08/08/2021 12:23

In the mountains of shit tha JKR has thrown at her by your lot, I have only seen her request a TRA remove a tweet once. It was that completely disingenuous interpretation of her tweet about mental health, iirc.

But feel free to drop some of the many other examples you seem to be implying you have.

Well that's reassuring, eh Bluebirdssong?

OP, I think one of your teens has just found out where you hang out.

I'd go on mum and wife strike. If my rational opinions were treated with such contempt and attempts were made to humiliate me I'd withdraw my labour. I'd be taking myself off in the car for weekends and leaving the (brainwashed idiots*) family to their own devices. My sister has told me she regards my GC views as abhorrent. We haven't spoke in six months. She sometimes texts. I ignore. Why would she want to communicate with someone with abhorrent views?

  • I tried to do a strike-thru various different ways but it won't work.
Jorrris · 08/08/2021 12:32

You do know you're breaking the talk guidelines doncha Bluebird. Accusing women of being transphobic bigots for protecting their own rights is not a good look. I won't report you though. As people like you bring sunlight to the situation for those who lurk. It rarely goes the way you hope it does.
