I think I’m going mad….

I’ve absolutely had enough of my family bringing up ‘mum’s views’ (which I’ve learnt to keep completely private from them due to previously accusations of bigotry’), and then when I say a single thing in response,, accusing me of being ‘obsessed’ with it and not keeping it to myself!

I feel like I’m going mad. Husband saying he doesn’t know why I’m so obsessed with trans matters and I should keep to myself - I do! I don’t want to share with them because they don’t agree and don’t want to hear it.
Ever since the first time I tried to bring up and got shot down my him and kids I decided I would never mention again and wait for them one day to find out for themselves and be peaked.

But Just once again tonight in response to their accusations (they brought up subject not me) I tried to explain briefly why it opposes women’s rights and homosexual rights and got quickly turned upon. I’ve bought Trans by Helen Joyce now and will just tell them to read it next time (although will no doubt get condemned for buying a ‘transphobic’ book and they will refuse to read it) I feel really down, I can’t even have my own personal opinions and thoughts now without my very own family trying to eek out of me what ‘I really think’ and nose at what I’m looking at over my shoulder (I follow Glinner and Posie and Mars). I’ve bought headphones so they don’t hear it and never share any of it. I have to clear my history in case they search it.

It’s like some weird dystopia we’ve all been forced to enter. I even mentioned the olympics tonight in my defence and they still they said that I imagine all of this and it’s not really happening.

What will it take for they and the general public to wake up and at least listen to women’s concerns? I feel so upset tonight. 😩

@Iootraw1 - if it's any consolation , it was my DCs who told me all about the wonders of Intersectionalism a few years ago. They are now GC , without any input from me even. Maybe that's how it has to be?

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 11:37

@ArabellaScott

Helen Joyce's mention of Jewish billionaires maliciously funding the "trans agenda" can be traced back through Jennifer Bilek to Keith Woods, the last of which is a Nazi.

last of whom

BluebirdsSong · 08/08/2021 11:39

@heathspeedwell

It's abundantly clear that you haven't read Joyce's book .
True, I'm not particularly interested in that tripe. I've seen the excerpts though. Lots of laughable inaccurate bullshit.

Like the idea the the UK carries no burden of historical slavery, or that the civil rights movements were about "winning hearts and minds" first and faced no pushback, minorities just politely asked the dominant group for rights, and the dominant groups graciously granted them.

So ridiculously, laughably ignorant of actual history.

Hang on is BluebirdsSong actually one of the OP's teenagers?

It did occur to me...

OP, tell them to do some washing up. Acts of service are definitely where my discipline focus would be if my teenagers were being rude arseholes.

I had similar with dh about 5 years ago OP. It felt very much like he had joined a cult. I couldn't understand half of the terms that he was hurling at me (What the fuck is a hill to die on? What does outlier mean? Who the fuck is Jordan Peterson?)

I suspect that he was experiencing the cognitive dissonance of knowing what he knows about me against the prevailing view of all decent and right thinking people who were (I think) of the "trans people are a special type of gay people" viewpoint. Whereas I had just found out about the paraphilia that we are not allowed to mention. And therefore I could immediately see the end result of giving males access to female only rights and resources, such as rapists in women's prisons. Even now, dh says that at the time he just didn't think it would go that far. But I did think that it would, because it's my job to see round corners. Because I'm a mum.

So you could appeal to their sense of shame as well, as it is hateful for them to label you as bigoted and it is abusive for them to label you as unhinged. But it's them I'm afraid op, it's not you. And you are certainly not going mad.

@ScreamingMeMe

Someone might want to tell Christa Peterson that her pal Katy Montgomerie was advised by her lawyer to delete similar libellous tweets. Or not. Bring on the lawsuit
#NoDebate, right? It's so terrible when people are silenced, right?

Wish trans people had the power of wealthy British white women that can literally silence any criticism by wielding institutional power against their critics.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 11:51

wealthy British white women Grin Grin

It never takes long does it?

TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 11:52

Isn't Helen, Irish?

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 11:53

Wish trans people had the power of wealthy British white women that can literally silence any criticism by wielding institutional power against their critics.

🤣🤣🤣

The irony.

Actuslly, that's sonething you could do. Basket of ironing.

Is that an incorrect assessment of the majority of GC thought leaders? Most prominent of which is a literal celebrity billionaire?

Yeah, the irony is indeed great, that you think you're the one being silenced, while threatening libel suits left and right and forcing people to delete their criticism of you.
TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 11:56

I mean if we're doing competitive intersectionality I'd say the Irish know something about oppression?

TinselAngel · 08/08/2021 11:57

Yeah, the irony is indeed great, that you think you're the one being silenced, while threatening libel suits left and right and forcing people to delete their criticism of you.

I can vouch for Floral not being Helen Joyce.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 11:58

Sorry BluebirdsSong
I'm not spending any time educating someone with such regressive misogynistic views of women, mothers and feminism in the realities of women's lives and political activism.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 12:00

And I'm sure that Floral is not JKR Grin

Jorrris · 08/08/2021 12:01

Could well be. Seeing as op hasn't been back.
BluebirdsSong · 08/08/2021 12:02

No, but you endorse wealthy, privileged individuals like JKR using their wealth and power to silence their critics.
Jorrris · 08/08/2021 12:05

Wish trans people had the power of wealthy British white women that can literally silence any criticism by wielding institutional power against their critics.

As opposed to entitled middle class basement dwelling male teen whose never worked a day in his life. Yet think the world owes him something.

It doesn't. As you will discover.

ODFOD with this disingenuous shite.

Libel is not a debating tactic. It's illegal. The legal system is for all to use. If I saod something libellous about Monroe Bergdorf, I'd expect her to do something about it.

No institutional power? You are having a fucking laugh! Stonewall and other trans organisations and their bad adviceare in most of our public organisations and major companies. The Equal Treatment Bench Book is just one example of the sway they have - over our legal system ffs.

Women have had to crowd fund to put right these abuses of power. FOTTFSOF with your rubbish.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/08/2021 12:06

Faints at the thought of women being allowed to challenge misogyny, hatred, rape and death threats. Women will be asking for the vote next Confused

Jorrris · 08/08/2021 12:07

No, but you endorse wealthy, privileged individuals like JKR using their wealth and power to silence their critics.

JKR is fab isn't she :-) she speaks the truth that burns your ears. And best of all, you can't cancel her.

ScreamingMeMe · 08/08/2021 12:08

Wish trans people had the power of wealthy British white women that can literally silence any criticism by wielding institutional power against their critics.

Literally?

Oh really tell me more.

FloralBunting · 08/08/2021 12:09

After all the misogyny and homophobia on display this morning, this has cut the deepest.
Theeyeballsinthesky · 08/08/2021 12:09

Yeah Tinsel Helen Joyce is indeed Irish but somehow I suspect Bluebird is lacking in understanding of the difference between Britain & Ireland and the looong history there or the oppression of Irish ppl
