Hoooo boy

‘I lost my candidacy because I’m trans’: English Green Party member Kathryn Bristow

‘I’ve been deemed a risk to the party’s reputation for being transgender,’ Bristow tells openDemocracy in an exclusive interview

“I put female as my sex on the census, and said [that I would do] so publicly,” Bristow explained. A complaint to the Green Party regional council, submitted by Hazel Pegg, then the party’s internal communications coordinator, argued that she was “breaking the law” and “bringing the party into disrepute” with these actions. The Census Act 1920 requires everyone in England to answer questions in the census accurately, though a 2019 amendment makes questions on sex and gender voluntary.

...or perhaps because you made a point of publicly stating that you were breaking the law by knowingly giving false info in the census and the Green Party didn't want to endorse that?

AfternoonToffee · 05/08/2021 20:43

So the headline isn't a true reflection of the situation, the issue is giving false information on the census.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 20:47

The green party are transphobic? The mind boggles! They have been very vocal on trans inclusion TWAW etc for years now!

For a person looking to have a role in a political party that is more visible, obviously openly breaking the law, and doing so publicly, is not a good look surely.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 05/08/2021 20:48

Chinny reckon

Oh what a pity. I shall light a candle or something.

ScreamingMeMe · 05/08/2021 20:50

Yup. Seems standard for trans Green Party members to strop off claiming trabsphobia when the issue is actually their behaviour...

IANAL, but I can't see the court case going anywhere.

Politicians who admit to breaking the law face consequences.

I know! I'm as surprised as anyone!

FindTheTruth · 05/08/2021 20:55

omg Fair Play For Women are helping to save the planet too, thanks to the green party now going back to focusing on climate change, thanks to them taking the ONS to the high court and winning a judgement that sex in the census means sex.

There's a lot of this tendency when things go wonky

Rather than to think it though see if s point. Apologise, explain etc.

To immediately believe it's definitely not their fault and it must be because of discrimination/ hate.

That's not healthy is it to not reflect on what happened, and to believe that you are being persecuted.

MichelleScarn · 05/08/2021 21:02

Did ye aye?...

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 21:06

And I know that's a constant criticism directed at other groups when they flag incidents esp the little stuff that all adds up. Certainly MRAs are always on about women having a victim complex.

Those who push for trans people also often say women play the victim. That concerns about dodgy men are paranoid etc.

I can't remember what KB did a few years back but I remember the name.

SelfPortraitWithEels · 05/08/2021 21:07

Genuinely snorted at chinny reckon.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/08/2021 21:07

Green Party still intent on losing votes, I see. What happened to the environment?

FindTheTruth · 05/08/2021 21:20

there was a thread about Bristow taking over the green party women's chat room and banning replies or something

Kathryn Bristow also works or worked for GenderGP, which might also turn out to be a bit of a reputational risk for the Green Party given the current tribunal hearing for Helen Webberley.

exexpat · 05/08/2021 21:23

Kathryn was joint chair of the Green's women's section with Emma Bateman; Emma was pushed out and Kathryn silenced all discussion.

Artichokeleaves · 05/08/2021 21:24

Consequences for choices and behaviours = transphobia?

No, I don't think so Kathryn.

Funny but true!

AdaFuckingShelby · 05/08/2021 21:27

What an idiot. Failing to spot your own rule breaking because you are so entitled you think the law doesn't apply to you, then blaming the consequences on others. Would've fit right in as an MP.

Childrenofthestones · 05/08/2021 21:28

Hahaha I haven't heard that for years. 😊👍
