Hoooo boy

‘I lost my candidacy because I’m trans’: English Green Party member Kathryn Bristow

‘I’ve been deemed a risk to the party’s reputation for being transgender,’ Bristow tells openDemocracy in an exclusive interview

@TalkingOutYerArse

"Kathryn is an immediate and ongoing danger to the reputation of the Green Party,” wrote Hazel Pegg in the 13 March complaint.

Grin

Thats a bit of an understatement - Kathryn has single handedly demolished the reputation of the Green Party. Of course they are also at fault for allowing her to stand for a woman's role in the first place
littlbrowndog · 05/08/2021 22:29

What’s wrong with Green Party. I would off voted for them if they just concentrate Ed on green stuff

But they just seem to, be gender politics.

What’s the point of Green Party ?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:31

They should never have lost their focus on the environment. And the policies about poverty etc.

Gender stuff has got huge numbers of people in all sorts of orgs running in circles. While they really do have better things to do.

QueenPeary · 05/08/2021 22:31

Even so, there are few organisations as keen to embrace this ideology as as the Greens. The idea of the Greens edging someone out for being trans is ludicrous. Doesn't KB think they'd have noticed KB's transness a while back?

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:34

So many orgs that are fully on board have been denounced as transphobic.

Greens
Guardian
Have no doubt there are more.

Aren't they shooting themselves in the foot with things like this?

transdimensional · 05/08/2021 22:39

When people demand the use of particularly unusual pronouns, such as "fae", it becomes somehow more akin to a nickname than a true pronoun.

It's interesting, but probably coincidence, that in the OpenDemocracy article someone called "jane fae" is mentioned, who presumably requires people to write her name in lower case. That could cause confusion, as in an article about both these people, "fae" could either be a mention of "jane" by her surname or a mention of Kathryn by her preferred pronoun!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 05/08/2021 22:43

the issue is giving false information on the census.

As others remark, perhaps it genuinely hasn't crossed KB's mind that that is reputational harm such as would bring an individual or party into disrepute.

I know people are accustomed to male politicians or various magical and sacred castes being exempt from such considerations but those are for people already within the magical circle of protection. KB is not there as yet but I'm sure that moment will come.

Surely the LibDems will be the next port of call.

TartanBonnet · 05/08/2021 22:46

@FloralBunting

Politicians who admit to breaking the law face consequences.

I know! I'm as surprised as anyone!

This made me laugh more than it should!

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:49

We don't know what they actually put. I'm sure female but don't know.

Surely the issue was saying they were going to do this on SM and so were.

Saying they were going to break the law
No qualms about doing so
And subtext to followers etc of this is an option. Anyone can do it. I think it's the right thing to do to make a point about my trans identity.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:50

'To all trans people, put what you know is right for you on the census, the guidance is not legally binding anyway.

I'm putting female, even though I don't have a GRC.

This judgement will just make the data less consistent, so the only loss today is for statistics nerds like me.'

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:51

'
Yep, it makes no difference. As long as you make what you believe is a true statement, you can put what you like on the census. I am female so that's what I'm putting.

The only problem is for Non-Binary people, but that was always going to be a issue with this census.'

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 22:53

One reply from that thread, back in march-

'Kat, you are bringing Green Party into disrepute. Green Party should be really concerned.'

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 05/08/2021 23:02

good

perhaps the green party can now get back to doing what the vast majority of its members want it to do rather than fucking about with gender woo

ArabellaScott · 05/08/2021 23:06

As we've seen many times, there is no way to stay on the right side of this ideology. Absolute and total capitulation will work for a bit but the drama seeking and relentless boundary pushing won't stop until someone actually stands up and says no.
JustcameoutGC · 05/08/2021 23:07

The amazing cloak of trans invincibility once again allows marginal person to assume position of power. Its like we are all being trained to ignore all of our senses, eyes, ears, brains, spidey senses and just believe what ever bollocks anyone ever tells us. What could possibly go wrong.

Shock Openly encouraging others to do the same and giving bad advice when in a position of responsibility within a political party surely makes it even worse.

@TedImgoingmad

Isn't it something to do with fairy people.
I think it references that the pronoun haver is “away with the faeries”.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/08/2021 23:34

This person took the place of a woman in a position of influence in the GP, and then ousted the woman who was sharing the position.

Cuckoos behave like that.

transdimensional · 05/08/2021 23:38

There is a guide to conjugating (actually, "declining" is the correct term, but the site calls it conjugating) "fae" here: neopronounfaq.tumblr.com/post/185595241964/guide-to-faefaer-pronouns
Unfortunately, the guide slips up right away by saying that "fae" is the object form, "faer" subject, but then giving examples that show the exact opposite pattern.
The guide is written by someone called Rainbow, who apparently goes by ey, em.
Other blog posts reveal that that some people are using "vi", "vin", "vis" as their pronouns or "ni", "ner", "ners", and that xyr" has variable pronunciation (so you should ask the person who uses it for their preference).
(*"Uses" here is a misnomer for "demands the use of".)

FloralBunting · 05/08/2021 23:52

"You will address me as faeled/politician."

StrangeLookingParasite · 06/08/2021 00:12

[quote TedImgoingmad]Here's some self absorbed bollocks on being "genderfae"

QueenPeary · 06/08/2021 00:24

That fae article!!!

Me me me me meeeeeeeeeeeeee Hmm

SpringCrocus · 06/08/2021 01:31

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

And

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha a bit more

SpringCrocus · 06/08/2021 02:23

I told him he was breaking the law. Serves him right

MangoSeason · 06/08/2021 02:29

Hilarious. Here were the Greens, desperate to be seen as woke and progressive, giving roles and airtime to this narcissistic bully. Of course Bristow was always going to turn on them. Bristow turns on everyone once their delusion is threatened. I can’t understand why any organisation ever gives an inch to these types.
