Shameful, incoherent, poorly referenced, completely biased piece of 'journalism' from the Guardian

So, we are all right wing anti-trans nuts.
The WiSpa incident didn't happen
Or if it did then that would be no problem
(make up your mind people)
The violence was all directed towards the TRAs.

If you needed an excuse to cancel your subscription, this would be it.

Please tell me noone still has a subscription to the Guardian. Its worthless, even as toilet paper.

ArabellaScott · 28/07/2021 21:27

Cancelled a few years back, dyslek. It's got as much credence as the online Independent these days.

Can't even be arsed clicking to read.

Toseland · 28/07/2021 22:00

Cancelled after the non-reporting of Cologne NYE 2015.

FloralBunting · 28/07/2021 22:07

Read the title and my reaction was "Default setting these days, isn't it?"

KohlaParasanda · 28/07/2021 22:13

I'm afraid so. Tote-bag-holding internet-only subscriber (so my "copy" is genuinely worthless as toilet paper) since subscriptions were introduced, paying annually. I don't think I'll be renewing when my next payment becomes due.
WhereYouLeftIt · 28/07/2021 22:16

Unsurprisingly, this was written by their US staff. Clicking on their names yielded the following info -

"Sam Levin is a correspondent for Guardian US, based in Los Angeles"

"Lois Beckett is a senior reporter covering gun policy, criminal justice and the far right in the United States."

So Lois reports on the far right. I am reminded of the old saying 'When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.'

happydays2345 · 28/07/2021 22:19

Great article, thanks for sharing! Will definitely be renewing my subscription 😊

WeeTorag · 28/07/2021 22:23

That article made my blood boil and O only skim read it! I saw a video of that "Precious" person talking to camera. I thought he was very aggressive and threatening in his tone. If he was naked inside that spa I'd feel unsafe.

Chickenyhead · 28/07/2021 22:30

Cba to read more deranged bullshit written for people with no fundamental knowledge of the facts.

lanadelgrey · 28/07/2021 22:34

It appears mostly based on hearsay and from a very unclear set of events and goes on and on, but really says nothing and fails to put forward the who, what, where, when and why basics of reporting.
For a piece that long it needs a coherent argument too and just adds to the confusion.

Thelnebriati · 28/07/2021 22:36

That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.

Chickenyhead · 28/07/2021 22:37

It ignores that the spa itself put out a statement GrinGrin

Gaslighting

Cranberrygin · 28/07/2021 22:39

Really poor piece of journalism. Totally misses the point, which is that apparently a transwoman (presumably with her male genitalia intact) exposed herself to women and girls. And women feel unhappy about it, which is entirely understandable. So trans activists beat up women who object, and somehow it’s the transwomen who feel threatened??? 🤔

Chickenyhead · 28/07/2021 22:47

Well its a very long article about something that apparently "didn't" happen.

WhatMattersMost · 28/07/2021 22:58

I clicked on the article hoping to find proof that would refute what was reported to have happened.

Still looking ...

Jackgrealishscurtains · 28/07/2021 22:58

Once again, the rather inconvenient contradiction is at play here:

Either

The idea of a penis being in a female space is so ludicrous and outrageous that women would have to make up a 'hoax' that it actually happened.

Or

Cock and balls in a female space is absolutely fine and it's perfectly plausible and acceptable that that would happen.

They can't seem to decide which it is!

It's weird that the TRAs are so keen to defend it. Someone who does have GD wouldn't do that, they'd make every effort to hide their real sex. Which leaves the following conclusion: The male was an ordinary male who decided to take advantage of the erosion of boundaries for his own sexual gratification.

Now why would they defend that?

I think it's this absolute lack of inconsistency that pisses me off the most about the response to this. Same as: anyone can be a woman if they feel like it, doesn't matter how they present of what genitalia they have, vs kids will kill themselves if anyone stops them from irreversibly altering their body
CardinalLolzy · 28/07/2021 23:32

The argument is that GD isn't (or shouldn't be) a requirement to be transgender. You can't assume any trans person has gender dysphoria.

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/07/2021 00:06

@FloralBunting

Read the title and my reaction was "Default setting these days, isn't it?"
My immediate thought was similar 'and that's different from any other time how?'
IvyTwines2 · 29/07/2021 00:21

I'm not giving the Guardian clicks, but a man/male/XY chromosomed person/penis-haver/whatever should not be in a space where women and girls are naked even if he's fully clothed.

Aparallaxia · 29/07/2021 00:21

I cancelled my long-standing subscription AND additional contribution a few weeks back. I sent a message explaining why (because TPAs [Trans Privilege Arseholes] are taking over what belongs to us women).

Response?

crickets

BraveBananaBadge · 29/07/2021 00:29

Oh, hell no! Sam and Lois again? Why on earth is this getting through into print?

Right wing, far right, anti trans, Q Anon, all the evil cartoon baddies together. And stabbing people now! Over "unsubstantiated allegations" (read: didn't happen). This is not reporting. It's clearly written to put off anyone who might be questioning the ideology around this for fear of being tarred with the same brush. It's propaganda. It's utterly wrong.

Bosky · 29/07/2021 03:24

One of the authors, Lois Becket, did a whoopsie on Twitter Grin

Talking about the protest:

"Just got thrown to the ground by right-wing anti-pedophile protesters as a crowd coverged on me and chased me. They threw water at me and screamed about Jesus and said to grab my phone. Police would not let me through the police line but after I got thrown on the ground they did"

@/ripx4nutmeg: "Calling them 'anti-pedophile protesters' in an attempt to discredit them might not be as successful as you think it is"
