The level of DARVO and gaslighting going on with that hollyoaks storyline with Sally in prison. Hmm

Has anyone written to Channel4?

Ridiculous, isn’t it?

dyslek · 07/07/2021 21:20

yes, I know, Iv seen it too.

Whats the word Im scrambling about for?

Ah yes, propaganda, thats the one.

OhHolyJesus · 07/07/2021 21:28

Absolutely awful, the writing, acting were abysmal and the story line is utter BS.

I will be writing. For those who can stand it the video is on a fb post here.

Soap operas are meant to be based in reality aren't they? It's not sci-fi fantasy.

For some actual reality see

endofjune · 07/07/2021 21:39

I will say in fairness I am not sure hollyoaks has ever been based in reality Grin but this storyline Hmm

yourhairiswinterfire · 07/07/2021 22:04

Yes, I'm complaining. What a kick in the teeth for the actual victims of this bullshit.

The actor mentioned the storyline on Twitter, saying the character will be attacked by ''GC transphobes''.

Because gender critical women jumping transwomen is something that totaaaally happens 🙄 Pull the fucking other one.

Meanwhile back in the real world, women are being forced against their will to share prison with males, even though it puts them at risk of being sexually assaulted or raped. Even though it has them walking on eggshells living in constant fear, because apparently they're not worth protecting.

Inmates in America were warned to expect sexual assaults. A woman has been punched so hard in the face by her male cellmate that she couldn't chew for three days, and the attacker was 'released back into a different yard with no restrictions'.

But sure HO, women are totally the real abusers here Hmm

dyslek · 07/07/2021 22:11

They are saying its being used as punishment for women who speak out or otherwise misbehave. Locking them in a cell with men.

Melroses · 07/07/2021 22:55

It is complete fantasy.

SmallPug · 07/07/2021 22:57

I've made a complaint to Ofcom. I've also realised I have the dubious honour of being blocked on Twitter by the actor playing Sally, despite never having interacted...

It's appalling propaganda especially in the face of what was revealed in the Judicial Review about the ongoing abuse of incarcerated women.

Also the stories that are starting to flood out of the US and Canada are painting a very grim picture for women.

But C4 who have always prided themselves on tackling difficult issues through drama have decided to feed us this crap rather than reflecting the known reality.

FloralBunting · 07/07/2021 23:33

It's the most naked, blatant propaganda since the inception of the idea.

Sally has killed a man, but is in prison with women. Sally is beaten by the nasty women, but what hurts the most is they didn't think Sally is a real woman. Sally making maudlin, melodramatic statements, unconnected to the things the female HCP is saying.
But, lets be clear, the HCP is saying Sally is wonderful; respected, a good mother, fuck, Sally is Mother Christmas. And Sally will be supported, oh yes.
Sally shares, through Sally's plaintive, unconvincing tears, that it's all very well supporting them in hospital, but they'll have to go back into the prison when well, and then Sally will be just another prisoner, like them.
Don't miss the very unsubtle subtext there - Sally isn't just another prisoner. Sally may have killed someone, yes, but Sally is special, Sally isn't like those horrible female prisoners.

It's despicable, and tbh, I am half wondering if a secret feminist producer has seen the news and decided to let it air anyway so that the bubble can be effectively burst.

I imagine it's more likely, however, that the producers are operating on a combination of seeking controversy fuelled ratings and being immersed in re-education from the actor who plays Sally, who was consulted on the much cosier Hayley Cropper (who was a much better actor, and obviously an actual woman)

WarriorN · 08/07/2021 06:38

Don't watch it but a clip on Facebook told me all I need to know.

The comments were encouraging. Not many supportive ones?

WarriorN · 08/07/2021 06:40

Something apparently happened on Twitter; something about the writer leaving twitter due to the number of women describing how they feel about men in women's spaces.

rabbitwoman · 08/07/2021 06:51

What is actually happening is that women are bring assaulted by men locked in prison with them.

But, imagine that as a soap opera storyline?

BingBongSong · 08/07/2021 07:02

Only saw the first few seconds, but the comments below the video are encouraging.

Clymene · 08/07/2021 07:02

Here's a heartwarming interview about how Annie Wallace went from computer engineer to soap star overnight! Unfortunately it did mean Annie was forced to reveal their trans status but everyone was very kind. And then a nice plug for mermaids.

https://www.heraldscotland.com/lifestyle/artss_ents/14846273.living-dream-hollyoaks-star-annie-wallace-first-trans-actor-trans-role-nominated-scottish-bafta/

Annie has also blocked me on Twitter, despite the fact that I have never heard of them or interacted with them in any way. Curious

Hestyo · 08/07/2021 07:15

From the Herald article:
she was also transgender and had not told any of her friends or colleagues. “I kept it very much to myself,” she says. “I just had normal jobs, I kept my head down, I didn’t want to be outed... I had a dilemma – if I became an actor, I was aware that at some point I would have to come out as trans because otherwise somebody would discover I was trans and I thought I’d rather that I was out before that happened.”

This is so bizarre. I don't watch Hollyoaks but occasionally get the last scenes before c4 news, and the very first time I saw this person I knew they were male. I didn't wonder. I very much knew that this was not a female person. I can't believe I'm the only one. I do think a lot of transwomen assume other people's politeness is actually them passing, and it really makes a mockery of the argument that most of them pass and therefore definitely should be using women's spaces.

IsItShining · 08/07/2021 07:16

‘I got a job and I blended in and I made some girlfriends and we would go out Saturday night – I just did what other women did because they didn’t know’

But also

‘A third of them had kind of guessed and a third of them had thought about it, and a third didn’t know.’

Amongst those friendly, accepting women, rather a lot do seem to have been able to tell Sally’s sex.

We need to be able to have honest discussions about this instead of tactful ones.

I think the writer had a load of old tweets posted - and they were ‘as predicted’ (using language that would get any of us banned). Was that the one?
WarriorN · 08/07/2021 11:46

Ah I don't know, third hand from the hollyoaks fb clip and all the comments beneath

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 08/07/2021 12:11

I believe that was the case, one of the writers bleating about how proud he was to be working on it (god knows why, it was crap), then told the nasty terfs and their inconvenient facts to eff off, had screenshots of his own tweets posted (with the same sort of language that had Damian Barr running for the lock button) so crybullied away.

The actor tweeting about the scene that the attacks came from "GC transphobes" was absolutely sickening. Had to get it in there didn't they, no, not just any transphobes, GC women. (what with being a women's prison)

There really is a push to get GC women painted as physically violent far right bigots attacking poor meek innocent TW who only want to pee. Like the Wi Spa incident(s)

This is a popular soap with young people, all being fed this absolute claptrap with no idea of what is really going on Angry

What a very surprising occurrence in every way.

Several other women on Twitter have told me the same thing.

There's probably Terfblocker or Shinigami Eyes at play here.

The whole storyline's an absolute gaslighting disgrace.

No doubt there'll be a ''I've grown as a person'' declaration and all will be well 🙄

I don't watch it either but I visited someone a couple of weeks ago and they had it on in the background. I clocked 'Sally' in about 0.001 secs.

I also find it bizarre that most TW are not aware of how physically threatening they are. I'd certainly be terrified if I was locked in a cell with Sally. Do they not see the same thing I see when looking at screen grabs like this? I'm a mild mannered, short, rather unfit, older woman but I accept that I can be frightening and intimidating to a bunch of primary age children because of my physical size compared to theirs.
