The level of DARVO and gaslighting going on with that hollyoaks storyline with Sally in prison. Hmm

Has anyone written to Channel4?

It is worth remembering - while watching this pap - that of 125 transgender prison inmates who had had a prison case conference in 2018, 60 were serving time for sexual offences.

27 of those it was rape; for 5 attempted rape.

Novelusername · 09/07/2021 15:03

Unbelievable, in every sense of the word.

Novelusername · 09/07/2021 15:12

What's interesting is they didn't show the female prisoners who were supposedly attacking 'Sally' on camera. This is because Sally is huge and male-bodied, and the facts of biology (that women are generally smaller and less strong the males - trans or not) would be plain for all to see and wouldn't support the propaganda being pushed ie. that of the poor defenceless transwoman.

Jiggy16 · 09/07/2021 15:17

I started another thread on this, just caught up with the episode (yes I watch, also yes, I know its shite!) So apologies, didn't see this one! Where are you complaining to? I would like to complain also, just not sure where is the best place to do it.

NecessaryScene · 09/07/2021 15:22

Oh, that explains that. I was vaguely wondering how they made that convincing.

TheSlayer · 09/07/2021 19:31

That's an unbelievable amount of gaslighting and propaganda. Just saw her in the credits as I don't watch Hollyoaks anymore (since early 20s). How can the audience miss she's built like a brick shithouse.
A wig and looking sorry for herself doesn't change that.
I do worry about the 'Hayley' effect of this storyline. I imagine the made up more likely to be 'attacked in prison than attack' statistics will start circulating soon.

I bet they were wearing suffragette ribbons and Adult Human Female T shirts.

I think maybe C4 in the first instance, then escalate to Ofcom if you get an unsatisfactory response. We know from their shitty advert a couple of years ago the contempt that the metropolitan types at C4 hold the people who complain to them in.

It's beyond belief that people are buying this shit. Well, it would have been beyond belief to me only a few years ago, now I sadly understand it all comes down to how much men hate women and have to claim more than their fair share than us for everything - even oppression! Why can no-one see this?! Once feminism has become mainstream so the oppression women face can no longer be simply ignored, men have to claim that they are in fact the most vulnerable in society in order to steal our attention, because not only can they be women too, but they're extra special women who we therefore have to bend the entire English language and social infrastructure around.
PurpleHoodie · 09/07/2021 20:08

Imagine coming on to MN FWR and expecting to find women cowed, or feel "guilty" by being labelled "witches".

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

PurpleHoodie · 09/07/2021 20:14

MN FWR is - and has always been - stuffed to the gills with religious/non-religious/atheist women.

We've rub along nicely because our commonality is femaleness.

"Witches" (as an insult) hahaha. Practicing witches have legitimacy. And are welcome here.

TheSlayer · 09/07/2021 20:23

I'd get some of those nice witch badges. However, I am genuinely a bit afraid outing myself as a 'proper' feminist could actually incite violence.
And not the kind that needs to happen off screen.

FridayNightByCandlelight · 09/07/2021 22:07

@Hestyo

From the Herald article: she was also transgender and had not told any of her friends or colleagues. “I kept it very much to myself,” she says. “I just had normal jobs, I kept my head down, I didn’t want to be outed... I had a dilemma – if I became an actor, I was aware that at some point I would have to come out as trans because otherwise somebody would discover I was trans and I thought I’d rather that I was out before that happened.”

This is so bizarre. I don't watch Hollyoaks but occasionally get the last scenes before c4 news, and the very first time I saw this person I knew they were male. I didn't wonder. I very much knew that this was not a female person. I can't believe I'm the only one. I do think a lot of transwomen assume other people's politeness is actually them passing, and it really makes a mockery of the argument that most of them pass and therefore definitely should be using women's spaces.

Likewise.

I don't watch Hollyoaks but have seen it. I wasn't aware the character was supposed to he trans but it was quite obvious to me that the actor was male.

statsgeek1 · 10/07/2021 04:15

Imagine complaining that a tv shows depicts the real life experience that trans people suffer physical violence and sexual violence in jail.

Yes, I would also like to see a programme that shows the greatest risk to female prisoners is the under educated and highly strung guards (mainly male but sometimes female) who clearly in many cases haven't moved on from concentration camp tactics.

I know some reading will shout' they are not guards they are officers'. Tosh, they are guards, full stop.

beastlyslumber · 10/07/2021 08:10

trans people suffer physical violence and sexual violence in jail

Not from women. Trans women are not being attacked by females inmates.

However, females are being attacked (physically, sexually) by TW in prisons. Many (around 50% I think) TW inmates are there for sex crimes.

beastlyslumber · 10/07/2021 08:11

Come to think of it, wasn't there a storyline in Orange is the New Black, with the TW being bullied and physically beaten by females?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 10/07/2021 09:03

Witches" (as an insult) hahaha. Practicing witches have legitimacy. And are welcome here.

Is anyone else wearing their This Witch Doesn’t Burn T-shirt today?

TheSlayer · 10/07/2021 09:16

"trans people suffer physical violence and sexual violence in jail.*
Statistics please.
And yes, the focus here is on the lie that female prisoners are responsible for this violence.
Want to deal with the fallacy that if the female estate is so dangerous to them why do they insist on invading it?

DevonTF · 10/07/2021 09:23

I have just complained to Channel 4 and OFCOM. We all need to make sure our voices are heard. Whilst the programme is awful viewing, with ridiculous storylines, their target demographic is very young.

And Channel 4 needs to address the tweets from the actor and writer.

Datun · 10/07/2021 09:27

The vulnerable prisoners unit is for men who are targeted by other men.

Not a women's prison.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2021 09:29

The complaint is not that the show depicts reality. It doesn't. It is a BIG FAT LIE THAT WILL HURT WOMEN.

PurpleHoodie · 10/07/2021 11:58

Is anyone else wearing their This Witch Doesn’t Burn T-shirt today?

Thanks for the reminder. I have gifts to buy Star

TheSlayer · 11/07/2021 11:33

I complained to ofcom. I didn't see the point in complaining to channel four as they seem to take complaints as an indication they're 'on the right side of history' based on previous adverts, which I used to approve of before the scales fell from my eyes on this issue.
Not only that but I don't watch Hollyoaks because it's awful(DH and I always have a mad Scrabble to change the channel when we hear the theme music) so they haven't lost a viewer.
I just touched briefly on fair play for women stats. I would have liked to go into more detail but D's woke.

Anotheruser02 · 11/07/2021 16:52

I'm surprised that HCP called him a Mother, she wouldn't get away with that kind of language if she were talking about a post natal woman.

PurpleHoodie · 11/07/2021 17:40

Good work The Slayer Star
