Shocking - but predictable. Good on her for going public. I hope the university expels the whiny little shit, though I doubt they will. Too cowardly.

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 11:55

I was just reading about this on Twitter. They've deleted her tweet now.

PatchyTwat · 29/06/2021 11:59

I’m more offended that a student cannot spell. What a tool!

NancyDrawed · 29/06/2021 12:00

Maya's ruling has such a wide reach - I would think Prof Freedman is protected from threats and harassment under the EA?

And why shouldn't she make the name of her accuser public?

Yup call out the weasels. The gloves must come off surely?

ArabellaScott · 29/06/2021 12:01

Appalling. What a threatening tone that letter has. I hope her employer has her back, here.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/06/2021 12:01

It's very odd, I find it very hard to imagine a student writing an email to a professor like this - is he stupid! I suppose at least he had the courage of his convictions and didn't do it anonymously.

Imnobody4 · 29/06/2021 12:05

What a privileged, self righteous brat. Good for Rosa for exposing him.

Datun · 29/06/2021 12:07

@NancyDrawed

Maya's ruling has such a wide reach - I would think Prof Freedman is protected from threats and harassment under the EA?

And why shouldn't she make the name of her accuser public?

Exactly. He either doesn't know, or doesn't realise, that he is now dangerously close to, if not knee high in, harassment, by warning her to choose her words carefully. I mean who the hell does he think he is?

And Twitter, too. That was a letter written to someone containing a veiled threat, and there is no reason why Rosa can't go public with it.

Twitter are showing themselves up. It's in the bloody Daily Mail, for gods sake. I hope they do a follow-up story saying that Twitter banned Rosa from speaking about it.

You couldn't make it up. Two attempts to try and cancel a woman, who has just won an apology from a university who tried to cancel her, because it's unlawful.

tickingthebox73 · 29/06/2021 12:08

" I mean who the hell does he think he is?"

...a privileged white male...

SirSamuelVimes · 29/06/2021 12:09

What an entitled little prick.

ScreamingMeMe · 29/06/2021 12:11
Shock

Self righteous, pompous so-and-so.

Good for her for calling this out.

OldTurtleNewShell · 29/06/2021 12:13

I was struck by him refusing to even use the word 'gender critical' as he conflated it with 'race critical' and then saying that he didn't want to strawman her, even when it was immediately clear that he has no idea what being gender critical was and was strawmanning in his first sentence.
It's an interesting letter because it's from someone who clearly thinks he's doing his best to open debate but is so entrenched in his own opinion and up on his high horse that he has no idea how he's coming across.

FloralBunting · 29/06/2021 12:15

If you don't want your bullying, pompous over-reach discussed publicly mate, try not being a pompous, over-reaching bully.

iwantalicencetocrenellate · 29/06/2021 12:16

Good for her calling him out on this. Right now he must be as terrified as a 10 year old girl who finds herself alone in the women's toilets with a 6ft4 man.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2021 12:17

Mail commenters aren't impressed by the student.

RedDogsBeg · 29/06/2021 12:18

choose your words carefully now there's a sinister phrase.

Good on Rosa Freedman and the DM for exposing this, this needs to be done more and more. For far too long people like the writer of that email have hidden and been protected in the shadows, get them into the sunlight.

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 12:19

It's the entitlement. Who the fuck does he think he is.

This made me laugh though.

He’s a silly kid. What Rosa should have done is report him to the University authorities and let them deal with it. Reading University is very good at dealing with this: Rosa has acknowledged as much herself.

No, it is not the done thing from a student to a professor (no doubt his tutor will be telling him that!), but I feel very uncomfortable that his details were published on Twitter.
His email could be interpreted as a threat; it could just as easily have been badly worded.

iwantalicencetocrenellate · 29/06/2021 12:21

@Tanith no, it's a threat. Absolutely no doubt about that.

Clymene · 29/06/2021 12:21

Oh i see charming Alex is privately educated. What a surprise. Entitled little twerp. His parents must be so proud.

Datun · 29/06/2021 12:24

Rosa's reaction seemed to indicate that this is just the latest in a long line of incidents.

She actually said she had to literally watch her back.

Faceicle · 29/06/2021 12:24

If I recall correctly from seeing the Prof's tweet earlier, our he/himmer sent it at 3 am, so I'm assuming more than just conviction courage involved in deciding this was a good idea.

Tanith · 29/06/2021 12:29

He’s still a kid and there are ways of dealing with this that do not involve posting his contact details on Twitter. The University has a duty of care to its students as well as its staff and Rosa is a member of staff.
It’s not OK to post his details on Twitter.
