Cross post.

PronounssheRa · 29/06/2021 14:44

Was it a Reading address? (I'm not asking for the form of it - was it areading.ac.uk?)

Yes, it wasn't his personal email, but his reading.ac email

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/06/2021 14:51

his reading.ac email

Universities reserve the right to access everyone's academic email comms. And it would substantiate that AW thought he was representing uni. business and had the authority to represent the professor colleagues to whom he alludes.

It might, of course, if no information is forthcoming from AW collaborators, open up any correspondence amongst that group to an SAR or FOIA if it needs to go that far after a request to the uni. to disclose the relevant correspondence.

Alex Wareham is not a law student according to the article in the Daily Mail.
Oops. my mistake.

Either way, he is a university student and therefore is very capable of knowing that his words were out of order.

AlfonsoTheMango · 29/06/2021 15:29

@Tanith

I saw the original tweet and yes, Rosa did publish this student’s full name and email address. She “doxxed” him.

It’s not victim-blaming to say she should not have done that. Victim-blaming would be to say she deserved his letter. I have not said that and I do not believe that.

Publishing his university email address is not doxxing him.
AlfonsoTheMango · 29/06/2021 15:31

To clarify: doxxing means publishing personal information, like their home address.

OhHolyJesus · 29/06/2021 15:51

Great to see this being called out and the student named. I'm all for that as I'm sure the student will stand by his words, even the ones spelt incorrectly.

"If I don't here back from you".

I know I'm spectacularly missing the point, but this is a university student right?

Judging from the rest of the letter, dyslexia isn't an issue so I guess it's just a mistake. Maybe the whole email was a mistake.

I'm going to stop saving for DC's Uni fund and start Googling holidays in Florida...

2old4thissite · 29/06/2021 15:59

Ha, did like one of the comments under the DM article- "Big non-specific gender sibling is watching you".Smile
Yep Rosa, publish it all. Sunlight

heathspeedwell · 29/06/2021 16:00

His problems go much deeper than just spelling and grammar. I think his comprehension skills and his empathy are in short supply.

He must know that at least one student has urinated on Rosa's door and he chooses to describe that behaviour as 'trying to protect the trans community'.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 16:06

So Unselfaware. I can’t believe that he is demanding she has an audience with him and explains herself (and moderates her language to his liking). Who is he, The Pope?

Flippin · 29/06/2021 16:08

I absolutely support Rosa’s naming this person. This shit needs sunlight, women have been fighting off the most ridiculous accusations for years now, it is only right to hold light to these little attacks. Show them for what they are.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 16:13

I guess it also shows that you shouldn’t be throwing around accusations and demands if you can’t back them up in public.

RedDogsBeg · 29/06/2021 16:30

Still on Rosa's side for naming him, it wasn't a personal email address it was a university address and like most companies follows a generic name@whatevercompany style plus by using his university email address he's explicitly stating he's not emailing in a personal capacity.

AutumnCrow · 29/06/2021 17:11

I rather imagine if she hadn't pointed out the academic email address, it would have been put down to a 'personal spat' or some such minimising crap by the university / wider academic world.

That it has come to this is extraordinary, yes. But Reading University - who I used to work for, back in the day - has failed in its duty of care to Prof Freedman for a long time now. She is being bullied, badly, in her workplace.

And her work on the politicisation of human rights is held in very high regard, and the university benefits from that.

Farinaz · 29/06/2021 17:13

Mr Wareman is a fully grown adult who has made a thinly veiled threat to a woman. I find it entirely reasonable that his name has been published. Perhaps it will make others think twice about making threats if they think their names may be revealed to future partners, employers and the public at large.

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 17:14

Just saw this. I'm hoping that John is in for a rude awakening and they are actually looking into the original email rather than Rosa.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 17:17

Funny how quickly they jump when the shoe is on the other foot. Have they even commented on the original exchange?

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 17:20

I've not seen any other comment from them yet toffee.

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 17:26

Just had another look and they have recently started to reply to everyone who tweeted them. Basically saying the same thing that they are aware and are looking into it.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 17:28

Into the silly student or the nasty lady...?

DialSquare · 29/06/2021 17:28

Both!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 29/06/2021 17:29

I almost feel sorry for them.

WarOnWoman · 29/06/2021 17:38

@toffeebutterpopcorn

I almost feel sorry for them.

Who?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/06/2021 17:38

And her work on the politicisation of human rights is held in very high regard, and the university benefits from that.

Her summary of the history of human rights is the best and most succinct that I've ever seen.

A Woman's Place is at the Bar (Professor Rosa Freedman, Reading, 4th December 2018)

Datun · 29/06/2021 17:39

I wonder if they were 'looking into it' before she put it on Twitter.
