This was a bad idea

Splitting the forums that is. Sex and gender underlies all feminist issues and you’re now ensuring that a lot of important topics don’t get as much traffic. I won’t be hanging around here but just wanted to make my views clear.

OP posts:

I've had the feminism boards hidden for ages as I am not interested in the hundreds of gender critical threads. It was a surprise to see this today as I didn't know there had been a push on separating the boards but for me, this is a positive thing.

Thanks to those who have pushed for this Smile

jellybeansforbreakfast · 22/06/2021 14:49

@deathbypostitnote

With you, jelly? Nothing.

Give it time.

With me? Me specifically?
Mollyollydolly · 22/06/2021 14:50

It's a pain flicking between the two boards, finding it very clunky.

Whoarethewho · 22/06/2021 14:51

You think we need yet another thread about this?

At least we can have a discussion without the endless GC comments flooding every thread. And I am GC when it comes to sports in thinking biological males shouldn't compete in sports where they will have an advantage. That is not to say I believe in equal prize money in the case of elite sports where the women's game makes the authorities much less money.

Either way that battle seems to be over now Mumsnet have decided the rules.

dworky · 22/06/2021 14:58

@MotherOffCod

I’m sure if you’re GC it’s a terrifically awful cramping of your world for mnhq to add a separate board that isn’t your own special place.

But for the rest of us it’s freaking lovely!

Shut the door on your way out, by all means.

And if the rest of the GC crowd could resist trying to shoehorn the gender critical angle into every thread and spam them into submission, that would be good too. And respectful of the boundaries of the women who actually prefer a non GC feminism space.

If you're not critical of gender, why call yourself a feminist? Non GC feminism = Non feminism.
MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 22/06/2021 14:58

Interesting idea for a thread. The women's football team make lots more money than the men's because football is popular as a woman's sport but not a man's. Yet the men's team get paid more. Go figure.

JediGnot · 22/06/2021 14:58

@corkernewyorker

710 pages of threads on Feminism: sex and gender debate and 3 on Feminism:chat. Says it all really.
What does it say? That there is zero point discussing feminism on any level if feminism is therefore the benefit of both women and men?
JediGnot · 22/06/2021 14:59

there for, not therefore

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 22/06/2021 14:59

That's meant to say the USA team.

MotherOffCod · 22/06/2021 14:59

Non-GC feminism? What kind of feminism isn't critical of gender? The sort of women who in the past who would have said 'oh no, men and women have very different brains, I'm happy not being allowed to vote because my husband does it for me and he's naturally much better at it'? Because that's what gender is. Sex role stereotypes.

Thank you for that perfect exemplar of exactly why the feminists who don’t subscribe to prevailing GC viewpoints have asked for, and been given, a space away from the GC board.

At least, it’s meant to be away from them. The GC regulars don’t seem to be able to read the room or respect the new board so far.

It’s so incredibly arrogant and domineering to behave this way, as if everything labelled feminism must subscribe to gender critical views.

That’s not how this works. I get you don’t like it. Take it up with mnhq, and leave the rest of us who are happy to have a non GC area to crack on.

And this nonsense of “where are all the posts?” is ridiculous. It’s been live one day, and so far there’s GC spammy moaning all over the place getting in the way, despite which there are several really good thread topics starting to get going.

So fed up of being told I’m not the right sort of feminist.

everybodysang · 22/06/2021 15:00

I'd also hidden the feminism boards as I'm in strong opposition to the GC agenda/viewpoint. I'm really pleased to see this development. Nobody wants to anyone to shut up. But all other viewpoints/discussions were absolutely drowned out. I really want to hear other voices.

PankhurstConnection · 22/06/2021 15:07

@Quaggars

Also you may be engaging but if I'm not mistaken you and others have not been creating threads on these topics you wish to discuss as you said you'd like to but were put off from doing.

Yes, you are mistaken, as I've never said that I was put off from creating threads.
All I've ever said is that it's nice to hear other topics away from "GC" issues and that it's a good idea to hear other women's voices too.
Not just those with a GC viewpoint.
Splitting the boards make it easier for other voices to be heard too and not drowned out.

I see it must have been other people then.

I still find it interesting that there are people so put off by topics they feel they can't respond to others because they are next to each other. Odd.

So you are good with creating threads then? Excellent- hope to see more from you!

Be good to see more from you too - are you just engaging with this thread or others on the board?
adviceseekingnamechanger · 22/06/2021 15:10

And yet all the gloating, annoying posters are all still here. So much for our own board, we're still being told to be kind etc.

For what it's worth, if you're not critical of gender you have fundamentally misunderstood the political project of feminism. So yeah, get used to being told your feminism is wrong, or go start all the nonsense fake feminist threads you want on the other board.

PankhurstConnection · 22/06/2021 15:11

All these new posters who will be engaging! How exciting, I can't wait to hear other points of view from women who can argue feminism while being on board with the concept of gender - I am very interested in your ideas.

I find it hard to separate the idea of gender even existing with the issues of feminism but I am always open to other perspectives. I'll be intrigued to see how it pans out.

littlbrowndog · 22/06/2021 15:13

Am posting on both boards. It’s allowed.

🤷‍♀️

stickygotstuck · 22/06/2021 15:14

If I was new, I'd assume it's to discuss babies' sexing scans.

yourhairiswinterfire · 22/06/2021 15:21

Right? Grin Apparently so glad to see the back of us, yet still seeking us out to come and tell us we're big meanies, just a few posts in 🤔

I think they must luffs us really.

deathbypostitnote · 22/06/2021 15:22

I'll be intrigued to see how it pans out.

I think it will pan out with no one wanting to engage in that conversation with you on the main board because that's an issue for GC feminism.

risefromyourgrave · 22/06/2021 15:30

Why are all the posters who are glad that ‘sex and gender’ has been sheared off onto its own board because they were ‘tired of seeing GC threads’ even here?!
It’s like people saying they’re tired of the royal family and then subscribing to Hello magazine….

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 22/06/2021 15:34

This 😁 more interested in us than starting their own threads.
Quaggars · 22/06/2021 15:35

Risefromyourgrave It was originally on the feminist chat board, that'll be why '' we're here '' - it's now been moved.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/06/2021 15:50

It is ridiculous. I am mulling over cancelling my subs, as I only pay them as a thank you for FWR as a space.

Quaggars · 22/06/2021 16:00

You still have a space though!
You have a whole board.
I honestly don't get why people have such a problem with others being heard too.

Stopthisnow · 22/06/2021 16:01

Non-GC feminism? What kind of feminism isn't critical of gender?

Sounds to me that would be what most people would consider old fashioned sexism.

I thought, maybe naively, that non-GC feminism was more about being kind and respectful to everyone.

Most people would consider being kind and respectful to everyone humanism.

So in summery it seems ‘GC-feminism’ is a form of sexist humanism. I don’t think that is very helpful to women to be honest, so I’ll stick with definition of feminism that fights for the rights and liberation of those born the female sex.
